Anyone else staying up/getting up early for this? I haven't decided which yet, but will definitely be tuning in live!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,137 ✭✭✭Sarn

Nah, will wait for someone else to summarise it for me.

I'm on a wake night in work so I'll certainly be watching. I'll be doing my best to try not wake staff members and service users with my squeals. :pac:

Is that a sarcastic response? Genuinely can't tell.

Anyway, are the Treehouse videos the ones presented by that really annoying duo who look like they have a gun held to them offscreen, ready to fire if they stop smiling? Or am I thinking of something else? Cos I could really do without them.

1-UP Studio, developer of Mother 3, posted up their invitation to the Switch conference. Looks like it could be a 1 hour event.

Genuine response. If it was on at a reasonable time I'd probably watch it. I find with these things there's usually lots of waffle, which is why I like to get the condensed version and jump straight to the details. :)

You're thinking of Nintendo Minute, I'd say.
Treehouse are the crowd who do the E3 live gameplay and interviews.

Yeah, the 4am is a pain in the butt, but I'm on board the hype train big time! Hoping there'll be a few more people online at that time to talk to!

    Yup, that's them. Shudder!

I'm lost, if the event is on at 2:30pm, why are people talking about staying up for it?

The treehouse event is on at half 2 in the afternoon. The initial event is at 4am. The stuff in the treehouse will be stuff elaborated on from the 4am event.

    Gotcha :)

4am sucks, not a hope of staying up that late. Unless ... :D

What Does a Playstation Podcast Make of The Nintendo Switch? - Beyond

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1CFRdLG3as

I too am worried about the Switch.

Looking forward to the full reveal next week.

Really not too concerned about the specs as I have a PS4 already for anything that doesn't come to Switch.

Have never missed a Nintendo console generation and don't intend on starting now!

Yeah but the guy on that very video did another video where he talks about how excited he is for it.

Sure we should be sceptical of anything being hyped up. But what I know is, in theory we're getting a console that will combine Nintendo's handheld/console output onto one machine. When you look at the output of say, Intelligent Systems alone, thats pretty exciting. If they get it right, marketing, infrastructure, whatever, I think it'll get the bare minimum of third party support people want.

    TLDR - HYPED.

Laura Kate retweeted this from the UK Metro paper

    Edit - anpost says £245 = 295 euro right now. So 329.99?

edit edit - Apparently Laura Kate isn't the source for that claim from Metro, she says they have their own source for it.

Yes 330 sounds about right but possibly as high as 350 for launch and then drop after a few months?

    Well now you've jinxed it.

Unfortunately, the whole "3rd party" issue and Nintendo has only been an issue for one Nintendo console in recent years, the WiiU.
That guys talk of the "Sonic Cycle" with Nintendo replacing the blue spiny one is not applicable because, again, Nintendo have only launched a single home console that lacked 3rd part support, the WiiU, and even when that was ongoing, the same 3rd parties continued to support the 3DS throughout it's production cycle into the present day, and the console continued to sell, continues to sell in actual fact, albeit in reduced numbers as the market is fairly saturated with 3DS machines at this point.
3DS owners buy lots of 3rd party titles, it's the purely home console machines that don't.

Look at titles like Pokemon Sun/Moon, with sales numbers that outstrip the total number sales of Call of Duty Infinite Warfare, bear in mind that Pokemon Sun/Moon is on one format only, the 3DS, while CoD:IW is on three.

The Switch represents opportunity, see it as purely a home console and it really has a single thing going for it, once again, and that is the 1st party games, and that's going to sell the machine to a lot of people.
The portable nature of the machine, and to be sure there's a variant of the package that'll be portability focused before too long, is going to appeal to every owner of the 3DS and is going to have all that 3rd party 3DS support, as well as it's 1st party stuff like Pokemon, along for the ride.
The Switch is possibly going to be the biggest hardware release that Nintendo have had in years.

At a limit of 720p the Switch will be easy to port to and the resolution is going make the console work better and longer on the battery, yes, games are not going to look their best, where many games are being produced with 4k assets, but I'd say there is a significant portion, if not a majority, of PS4/XB1 owners that are playing their games at 720p and, as such, it's hardly damaging any developers precious sense of artistic expression.

Time will tell, CoD and the like, certainly the AAA releases over the recent holidays, were heavily discounted everywhere as a result of poor sales, perhaps the public is ready for something else?

I love your man, talking about the Switch controllers being "janky and not working all that well" with an image of a player with a pair of Move controllers in her hands!
The sense of irony would appear to be lost on him.

Also, the "Nintendo, one step forward, three steps back" using the lack of Nintendo Mini Classic preorders, it's controller cord length and the reset button on the console as somehow spoiling the experience?
Again, no sense of irony from a Sony podcast where they conveniently forget the frankly dreadful performance of the Vita and the even worse Vita/Playstation TV mini console.

There's the other one, bemoaning the franchises that started on Nintendo and ended up on Sony, probably thinking of Final Fantasy, forgetting that Dragon Quest began on Nintendo, had a couple of PS releases before returning to Nintendo, and including superior ports of the Sony titles back to the 3DS.

Bioware don't like Nintendo for whatever reason, so no big shocker.

edit - its probably easier to get info on ports from people in regards to leaks, as opposed to new stuff.

Tbf there isn't a hope that the Switch is powerful enough to get a port. They don't hate Nintendo either, ME3 sold damn all copies on WiiU & the first 2 games were never going to be re released after that.
It's only being realistic to say stuff like that, Overwatch, Red Dead 2 & some 3rd party titles might struggle to get Switch ports. If the Switch is a success I imagine they'll make versions. But it's not down to hatred of Nintendo more down to knowing what they can make financially.

Yeah but they seem to keep forgetting the main reason ME3 sold so little on Wii U. It was an old game released at full price at the same time as the entire trilogy was released for the same price on the other platforms. If they had ported the trilogy, it would very likely have sold better.
