I'm gonna say three 1st party nintendo games, and 5-6 third party games.

Don't think I could eat that early in the morning.

Nikkei says Switch to be 25,000 yen, roughly $250 dollars. So I assume 250 euro.

I think after the conference we'll see a few other games announced by developers as well as they've probably had to keep schtum until the Switch was shown.

It's never a straight conversion. We always pay more.

Well we'll know for sure by next friday!

Nintendo always charge a bit less in their home country as well, 20,000 Yen which around $215, so it's likely to be around $250+. It will be a bit more here as well with the usual conversions companies do, certainly not just Nintendo.

So for those looking to get it Day One, what's the best option for a preorder? The Wii was the last console I picked up near release so I'm a bit out of the loop with regard to options.

I'm thinking Smyth's would be the best place but no reason to back that up. GameStop is likely to be looking for over the RRP. Argos will be luck of the draw, assuming they get stock in early. Anywhere else local or online with a good rep?

If the release date is 17/03/17 I'd like to be able to play it over the long weekend. I know we'll have a better idea next week but I'd like to get in early.

Amazon probably the best for pre order if you don't mind waiting but like said you will want it for the long weekend I'd say Gamestop which I have a tenner down allready for the Switch.

Gotta go with Gamestop. They'll be the most likely to guarantee pre orders and do midnight launches. Symths have got less and less reliable over time.

A midnight launch ? I don't recall a Nintendo console having that before with Gamestop maybe I'm wrong my mother took my Wii and Wii U orders and kept consoles from Christmas.

Well they did it for PS4 and xbox one. If the demand is there, they'll do it.

And they definitely did them for Wii and DS.

Did one for Wii, on Henry St, no one did it for WiiU (the sh*ts).

I'll be getting it from whoever will do a midnight launch.

DS midnight launch was mega. Except there were no copies of Mario 64 left by the time I got to the till.

Gamestop in Galway never do midnight launches, the shopping centre they're in won't let them. And if it is released on paddys day, they probably won't open til 12 noon!

I completely understand the dislike for Gamestop, but they've never let me down on a preorder before (even the NES mini) so I'll most likely get mine there.

The one in Swords is one of the regular midnight launch shops, and is a 15 minute walk up the road for me!

I'm jealous, would love a midnight launch for this!

They did it for the N64!
Walking for the bus, with a black bin bag filled with an N64 and a bunch of games!

The Official Nintendo UK site has changed it's site theme to the red/white motif. Looks good.

Don't know how reliable this guy is, but TL:DR, this guy has heard Gamestop (US) will be getting low allocations of Switch at launch. After all, 2 million units worldwide isn't very many really.

Is it ok to start playing Christmas songs again in the lead up to this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,523 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Only if all artists rerecord them changing Christmas to Switchmas

It was Switchmas Eve babe.... Innnn the Druuunk Taaank!!!
An old man said to me... won't see another one...
And then we sang a song, the rare old Mountain Dew,
I turned my face away, and dreamed of my WiiU....

I was just waiting on someone to drop some words. :D

Reminds me of the French 3DSs lost in Tamworth.

How would pre-ordering in Gamestop work if I went and did it today? Like if it turns out there's more than one SKU.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,431 ✭✭✭MilesMorales1

Gamestop (US) had meetings about the Switch, here are the supposed results
Friday pre-orders will go live, and you'll be able to pre-order the switch and games (no word on the online/in store pickup though)
Nintendo has only slated stores for 10-15 pre-order units per store (here we go again, NES classic all over again)
Breath of the Wild will 100% be a launch title.
Zelda accessories are coming out for the switch at launch.
Amiibos for botw will be out 2-3 weeks before switch launch.
A 3D Mario game is coming out at launch as well, but no name was given for the title.
Gamestop will be getting pre-order promotional material between now and Thursday this week for in store advertising.
Gamestop is stating a March 17th release date for the Switch.
Gamestop has the SKU's for the units, but no pricing from Nintendo at the moment.

It's still early enough yet but here's what Gamsetsop said when I asked them about midnight launches.

    Stephen (GameStop Ireland)

    Hi

Thank you for contacting GameStop and sorry for the delay in responding to your support ticket

At the moment no Midnight Launch has been confirmed for the Nintendo Switch Console

Should we hold a Midnight Launch in our stores this information will be available in your local store once confirmed

If we can assist you with anything else please don't hesitate in contacting us again

    Kind Regards

They'll probably call you and ask which sku you'd like to transfer the preorder too, depending on the store. Lazier staff might just transfer it to either one without asking, so you might want to follow up if you haven't heard from them

I'm pretty sure it's not official but Nintendo Spain's PR manager retweeted it. It's a throwback to an early NES ad.
