    Thats true. Long long time.

I don't like motion controls outside of a handful of titles, like Metroid Trilogy.

Same...we can certainly hope anyway :)

I'm not sure I'd play Skyward Sword again without normal controls. Motion controls really wrecked that game.

Shame it was only supported for Smash Bros. But at least we know the new Zelda will support the Pro controller which gives me hope that the NX will either directly support the Pro also or have a new version of it. If they're also releasing some controller with touchscreen capability then maybe that will be an optional extra.

As for the NX rumours above - I'd be very surprised if the OS is Android. That's a bit too open source for Nintendo and I wouldn't have thought it was up to the job of handling console quality games either. If anything maybe it will have an Android emulator of sorts to play Nintendo mobile games on it (via a touchscreen controller).

Reckon they will stick with optical media rather than going back to cartridge, Blu Ray or whatever is most cost effective with decent capacity.

I wouldn't play Skyward Sword again even if I was paid to do so.

    Honestly.?
I'd play pretty much anything if someone paid me to do it!
And Skyward looked amazing, just the darn motion controls got in the way.

I genuinely love Skyward Sword, in spite of it's problems, which are mainly Fi being overbearing and over explaining things, and the Wii Remote + recentering. Beyond that, I think it's a great game, that I think was a major stepping stone in the journey to where they've brought Breath of the Wild, with the non-dungeon areas being more intricate and full of life than ever before.

So, what stage are we all at?
    I'm still optimistic and hopeful,
    I know there's two cycles
    The Sonic cycle

    and
    The Nintendo cycle....
(I've no image for this though :( )

That always makes me think of Sligeach waking up in a cold sweat with an empty bourbon bottle in his hand, then looking down to see he's lying on a bed of Amiibo and screaming NOOOOOOOOOOO! as crazy jazz music plays and the camera spirals off into the sky.

They'll get us all in the end. Wouldn't it just be easier on ourselves to jump straight to acceptance?

True that. Though I'm taking past experience on board this time, the 3DS & Wii U were a shocking waste of money for at least the first two years of their lives...& while the NX isn't certain to follow suit, twice burned & all that. I'll pick one up possibly late 2017 or sometime in 2018. For this year, the PSVR looks set to have piqued my interests enough to warrant buying in (I sold my PS4 a month or two ago, so I've the price of a Neo more or less covered by now, & just need to buy the VR). If the PSVR isn't turning heads on release, I'll strongly consider just building a new gaming pc instead.

I'd absolutely agree with you on the 3DS, but the Wii U had games that've kept me entertained and enjoying it since release to be fair!

Zombi U & NSMB U were the only things that remotely interested me. I wanted more for my €350 :(

The risks of early adoption I guess. Actually, it's not a risk - it's gauranteed disappointment buying a new console/handheld on launch day - there's never enough to keep you interested for long. The Wii was the last machine I got on launch and said never again, I've held to that.

I didn't get a 3DS until the great Tesco sale of a year or two back - there were some great games going silly cheap and Argos had a sale on the handheld - the stars aligned.
Similarly I only got a Wii-U when Gamestop (of all places!) were offering a crazy good deal a few summers back - got a stack of great games for the price the console is still selling at now.

Plenty of things keeping me from buying an NX at launch - what other games will be available (Zelda on it's own isn't enough), what's the online going to be like, will the console have more hard disk space than my mobile phone, are they still going to tie purchases to the machine and expect us to re-buy all our VC titles again...

I'm definitely looking forward to it and looking forward to the opinions of the early adopters on here. But will hold off a little while at least.

Edit: This video might resonate with a few on here. Not sure I agree with everything in it but specs are important - don't have to be bleeding edge (they never will in a console) but they do have to be relatively up-to-date.

Hmm, I'm not going to go in blind this time, twice burnt at launch of 3ds and WiiU. Not again Nintendo. Gonna wait for a year or two after launch then see where we're at

Could be amazing though (like the dreamcast :( )

The following are the games I got within the first 2 years of the Wii U, and really enjoyed them. There were plenty other really good ones too, that I'd wanted to get, but hadn't, for one reason or another:

    Darksiders II
    Little Inferno
    Nano Assault Neo
    New Super Mario Bros. U
    Nintendo Land
    Trine 2: Director's Cut
    ZombiU
    The Cave
    Zen Pinball 2
    Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
    Pikmin 3
    Rayman Legends
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
    Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
    Super Mario 3D World
    Wii Fit U
    The Lego Movie Videogame
    Mario Kart 8
    Hyrule Warriors
    Bayonetta
    Bayonetta 2
    Tengami
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

^^ Took a long time to get to that level of choice & quality though. The 3DS was the Ocarina of Time 3D machine for almost two years also...so yeah, the twice burned thing definitely applies for me. I really hope they've learned.

@Andrew...the VC & account thing is something I desperately want to see improved too. I doubt they'd ask us to buy VC content again, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them ask for us to pay an amount to transfer content from the Wii/Wii U to NX...they've already done that when the Wii U launched & I thought it was tremendously poor form to ask people for more money, to transfer their already paid for games onto a console that has native backwards compatibility with the preceding console. It was a token amount, but still, the prices on the VC are already stupidly high for bare roms to begin with.

From Windwaker HD and up were all within the first year, below that was the 2nd year. I dunno about you, but it was plenty to keep me going!!!

Pikmin 3 and Rayman Legends were the standout games from the first year for me.

I'll be a day one buyer, can't help it.
I delayed last time, took a couple of months before picking up a WiiU, up to then I was a day one Nintendo buyer all the way.
I think I will revert though, and queue up, probably in a queue of one, for my NX console.

I was gonna sit and wait for the NX to see if i could get it cheaper after a few months or until a game bundle came out that i wanted, but they are launching with a freakin zelda game, its a day one for me because of that.

Day one. Truth is I just check this thread every now and then for a release date.

And to agree with anyone who says Pikmin 3 was the best thing ever.

Might be day one purchase for me too. Haven't had a day one purchase since N64.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,120 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

I was day 1 for the Wii, 3DS and Wii U, was never able to do day 1 before then!

I day one'd the N64, GB Color, GBA and 'Cube as well as the Wii.
Imported the Gamecube upon it's japanese release, got Waverace, Super Monkey Ball and Luigi's Mansion, such a cracking lineup.
Funny thing was, even then, the detractors were focusing on the colour scheme of the machine and the controller rather than the games, instead entirely taken in by the AV Unit looks of the PS2 and Xbox, even though the PS2 had a terrible launch game selection, not so bad on the Xbox to be honest.
I have told this story before, but people asked me to lend them my GC to do a comparative review of the machine with the other two consoles and they found the GC lacking while they raved about the Xbox, entirely mistakenly I felt at the time, and still do.
Nothing was as fully formed and perfect a launch title as Luigi's Mansion, if felt like a refined followup to a much loved franchise, even though it was the debut of one, maybe Super Mario World comes close, though SMB3 is neck and neck as good.
Point of all the waffle is, maybe, if the NX can come with something truly spectacular it could capture some hearts and minds and make Nintendo synonymous with videogaming, as it once did....

Day one for this, the Neo or 4k does not interest me with what we know so far, if the new Zelda is a luanch title all the better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,431 ✭✭✭MilesMorales1

I've gone day 1 on every Nintendo console since the GBA SP, I'l be there for NX.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,636 ✭✭✭✭OwaynOTT

I did day 2 the GameCube. Everything else before that was hand me downs. Got a lovely hand me down with the Snes.
Secret of Mana, SFII Turbo, Mario kart, all stars, marioworld, super swiv, fzero, buster busts loose, stunt race fx, starwing. So not too shabby a hand down.

I think I day 1'd the Gamecube...& for all the flak it got early on, it's an incredible machine & by far my fav of the 6th gen consoles. As I said, I won't be day 1'ing the NX, but the fact that BotW is a launch title I'd forgive anyone for day 1'ing it. At least this time it'll hit the ground running.

I don't know if I'll buy NX day 1. I swore I wouldn't after the disappointment of Wii U, its launch was awful. Have some people forgotten just how bad it was? The OS, no killer games, the specs, price for what it could do, the wi-fi was atrocious(I remember placing the Wii U on floor in the middle of the room to get a signal). The OS system is now very good but it took a long time for it to be so. But I could easily cave and buy NX at launch. Things that could sway me are the specs, price and killer games. I also bought Gamecube, Wii and N64 on day 1. Couldn't buy the SNES at launch but got it as a Christmas present. Gamecube was probably the best launch(Star Wars Rogue Leader followed by Pikmin a couple of weeks later). They were all good apart from Wii U.
