I just wish the franchise involved was something I had the slightest bit of interest in. It's doing wonders for their stock though. It's the highest one day jump in share price since 1983 I think. And has added a whopping $7.5 billion to Nintendo's market value.

So... Pokemon Go is a crazy success for Nintendo, and its not even out everywhere yet. Wonder if it means anything for NX.

I mean apart from the fact Nintendo properties can still connect with people.

Can we call it a success? I'm not sure how much money it's generating.

Nintendo's shares and or stocks whatever the term is have significantly risen and apparently people are all the micro transactions, so yes, its a success.

Stocks have jumped almost 10% since its release last week

EDIT: Nevermind, 25% today! Bloody hell

Even if it wasn't making a penny and apparently it is, the fact has proven, the interest in Nintendo's properties still exists, they just have to play them right.

    http://money.cnn.com/2016/07/11/investing/pokemon-go-nintendo-stock/
Nintendo shares have been on a tear since the Japanese company released its newest game, Pokemon Go, on Thursday.

The stock surged nearly 25% in Tokyo on Monday, after jumping 9% on Friday.
The new smartphone game has players exploring their real-life neighborhoods. It uses augmented reality -- tapping your phone's camera to superimpose cute, virtual creatures in the real world.
By Friday, it had already been downloaded more than a million times on Android and Apple devices.

The immediate success of Nintendo's (NTDOY) Pokemon Go could be the start of a wild turnaround for a company that has been struggling. Sales of its most recent game console, the Wii U, turned out to be a miserable flop, as it ran into fierce competition from rivals such as Microsoft's (MSFT, Tech30) Xbox One and Sony's (SNE) PlayStation 4.

I read that it's going to make $2 billion by years end and that the few days of Pokemon Go has made them more money than Wii U has for the past number of years. Don't quote me on it. It's just something I glanced at in passing but didn't pay any real attention to.

If true, this'll mean Nintendo will take a long, serious, & engaging look at the free to play model, one riddled with micro-transactions. Aka the EA/Ubisoft model of gaming. I hope not, but money talks.

People think this is great but in the long term I'm not a fan because it might help influence Nintendo on where to lay their priorities. And investors, well they don't give a $hit about games, they just want as much profit as possible. Have you ever heard some of them talking at investor meetings? I want console gaming and don't really care for mobile gaming.

I have to say I'm currently of the same mind. On one hand it is great to see Nintendo's stock good again, I'm just wondering how this'll affect future endeavors by the company. The Wii was a raging sales success, & led Nintendo down the wrong path imo (reliance on gimmick controllers, removed from direct competition with Sony/MS, low power consoles compared to others, etc). I hope this doesn't do the same.

He just said not to quote him! :p

Interested in trying this Pokémon Go when it becomes available. Won't be spending money on it.
I can't see them abandoning other work in favour of these games but will instead be done alongside.

I mean the game isn't very good like most mobile games. But I dunno, if they could diversify what they do rather than switching from proper gaming to mobile, that'd be ok.

Of course, I'd be interested to see what people think if and when they release games with less brand recognition and more content, like that fire emblem thing.

It does have to be pointed out that Nintendo doesn't 'own' Pokemon Go or even Pokemon itself. They will always have an interest in anything that can generate this kind of share increase but I wouldn't expect a complete shift towards something like that especially when they aren't completely in control of it.

Should all of this Pokémon Go talk be on the NX thread?

Should we not have had a metroid game for 6 years?

Yeah, I was debating where to put it, but because it wasn't just about Pokémon Go, and there had been similar discussion here, I guessed here would've been better..

A closer look at something nobody knows anything about. :pac:

Agree with the above. Please keep the chat here on the NX, Pokémon Go discussion is unrelated to the NX, and as such should be on the Pokémon forum, they have Pokémon Go threads there for all interested.

We are in the 27th or 28th week of the year, and still we have not heard a word on the NX. I'm not sad anymore, I'm just disappointed. Though I'm sure I'l shake it off when we get a reveal.

Metroid Go? Now that's a game I'd go out for!

Ubisoft on NX: “what we have seen is really great”

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot again commented on NX during the publisher’s financial conference call a short while ago.

Guillemot started out by mentioning what Ubisoft has seen thus far “is really great”. He also believes that the system can “take lots more casual players back in the industry.”

    Guillemot’s words in full:

“On the NX, what we have seen is really great, so we think having a new machine coming is going to help the industry to continue to grow and to take lots more casual players back in the industry.”

Ubisoft has confirmed one game for NX thus far, that being Just Dance 2017. It remains to be seen what other plans the company has up its sleeves.

Not a fan of seeing that word "casual."

And in the same breath he goes on about how microsoft will give them access to better graphics.

    Confirmed wii2 imo.

And I don't mean the runaway success part, I seriously doubt Nintendo have what it takes to make something mainstream successful again like the Wii. Unless it's free like Pokemon Go.

Folks need to be careful reading too much into the use of the word casual.
The NX appears impressive, it shouldn't be too long now before we get to see it, and we can make up our own minds

Don't like seeing the word casual myself, & my first thoughts were gimmicky controls. It's Ubisoft though, just one company...not too long to go know until we know a LOT more
