    I dunno Weathercheck...

    http://129.13.102.67/wz/pics/Rtavn6017.gif

Shows 1c for the areas I mentioned earlier.

The areas you mentioned are at 3c, slightly too warm for snow, also with the 8-10c SST of the Irish sea, it would further dampen the snow - literally speaking.

Not trying to p*ss on your parade or anything.

Those temp charts are notourisly poor for coastal regions
as they mix up the temperature off the coast for on land :)

These tables represent better and more accurate
interpretations of the GFS output ;)

    http://wxweb.meteostar.com/sample/sample_C.shtml?text=EIDW

Basically those temp charts are useless for coastal regions..
    years of experience ;)

it all seems very touch and go weather we'll see snow here in the east tomorrow night, it will be cold but it has often rained here at 1C, and yet some other times we would get a snow shower at 4C, all we can do is wait and see what happens tomorrow night, it may snow in some areas and rain in others, i think the real chance of snow wont happen till monday onwards. I would love if it did snow alot here tomorrow night and in dublin too... i could really do with a week away from college.

It will snow in Laois and the other areas I mentioned, and thats for sure. I would put the coastal strip of the east on a knife edge.

Sorry i disagree Danno because the cold air will be
to the east and a milder intrusion will come into
    the west :)

So the east will be more at risk than the midlands.

Im 30m asl so we'll see what happens ;)

    FROM: http://www.metcheck.com/discussion.asp

Synoptic Discussion: - Western Britain, Frontal Wave -

There remains significant uncertainty with regards to a frontal wave moving down some Western parts of the UK during Monday, namely Western Scotland, Ireland and possible Western Wales and extreme Southwest England.

There is no continuity with regards to its location or development, however there is a reasonable risk that this feature will bring a mixture of precipitation of rain, sleet and snow to the above mentioned areas, with Ireland at the moment likely to be the main region at greatest risk of seeing snowfall from this system. Forecast atmospheric soundings over Northern and Eastern Ireland especially show that while surface temperatures will generally be a few degrees above the freezing mark, the overall atmosphere will still support snowfall. As a result a few centimetres of snowfall is currently possible in association with this system. It will continue to be monitored closely and any significant changes will be discussed here between now and the time of the event.

I agree with Danno, looking at two different sources:
Check the temp chart for Monday morning 1-6am:
    http://theyr.net/cg/cny/I1da54e/F=js*h*050220*26*a*IE*ie_Dublin
Laois looks colder than Dublin. Over at metcheck.com, Laois temps are 0c for this time, Dublin slightly warmer at 1c :D

    Danno and w.check...

It's not a competition-so dont be bitching with each other please-enjoy the event.

And Danno if it cheers you up, I do think you will see snow this week-not as much as parts closer to the Irish sea but possibly as much or more than you've seen to date this winter.

The system you are on about is very touch and go.
Its a case of stay tuned :D
High ground is a yes for snow from it.
90mtrs is only 300ft which makes little difference.
It's amazing what difference 500 or 600ft does though.

I hope you do though as if it falls in a pepped up front and sticks it will provide a base for anything the east throws down to you when its done with us poor féckers :D

temperatures are now starting to fall outside here, 5C in dublin, 4C/5C outside my house and the rest of the country still around 8C

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,778 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Yep tis getting chilly out there now with the wind turned
northerly off the Irish sea and the clouds building, some light
snow shower are possible later tonight :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,913 ✭✭✭Danno

    LOL! :)

    Not bitching!

Just reading the temperature charts, and giving my opinion! LOL!

Looking at the radar, there are signs of convectivity starting over the Irish Sea. North West Wales are the benificieries though.

When the wind changes this time tomorrow, then the east coast will get it. North Wicklow coast should see a shower or two in the N wind tomorrow early on.

Bah, Laois lost by 2 points.

At least our new goalie is better than the last one! LAOIS ABU!

    Anyways, back on thread:

http://www.metcheck.com/premium/precipitype.asp?lat=53&lon=-7&locationID=302 Shows alot of sleet showers breaking out over the North Midlands.

With the night time cooling starting now, it might be cold enough for those to fall as snow by the time they get to me???

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,778 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Yep Danno there will be some light flurries later this evening and
tonight it would seem in some lucky areas ;)

Me thinks that the Slieve Bloom Mountains will hold that warmer air back over West Offaly... ???

The rain might make it as far east as Mullingar, Birr, Waterford City... then the cold air will cause it to fall as snow in my area.
