Honestly Earthman they're leading us up the creek,
People are probably looking at that forecast and
    laughing at me!

I tells you come back here on Tuesday morning and laugh at me :D;)

The lovely Jean Byrne said that it'll be warmer on Monday, but the summary afterwards suggested highs of only 4C on Tuesday and showed snow showers for the east.

I think people here will be disappointed and much of the predictions here seem to stem more from over-enthusiastic, wishful thinking than anything else. I used to be like that, before I got all bitter & cynical...

As i say save the criticism for after the event because
im 100% confident that there wont be any!

Appalling from the MetO appalling! ;)

Carefull Ray or you'll give w.check a seizure and it will cost us money because we'll have to fly him to the top of the french alps for a recovery :p

The MO have downgraded their analysis of mondays weather since this morning from snow in places to Rain given what they updated their website with this morning...

It is appalling, to an extent. Appalling that we're going to be disappointed. Again, I hope I'm wrong...

rte are prolly just being cautious, its has happened in the past that it snows all over the uk including northern ireland but as soon as the cloud cross's the border into the republic it suddenly turns to rain:)

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,778 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

I cant wait until Monday when the snow is packing up on the ground :D:D

Then i'll be proven right and i expect remorse from all my doubters :D

I hope you are right. If you are, I'll be full of remorse :)

Although, I think that if RTÉ were being cautious, they'd be forecasting loads of snow, so that the country won't be caught out...

maybe they are just holding out till tomorrow to see how it looks then.

Sky news charts show snow for the east coast of england and scotland, they reckoned an inch of lying snow on monday, but their charts showed no precip for Ireland!

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,715 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

the bbc currently have snow precip for eastern ireland on monday, tuesday and wednesday with rain over the midlands and west,

as for Greenland well they are seeing quite remarkable temperatures at the moment, some places are sunny and 14C (57F) while other places are slightly cooler with rain, also most of Iceland is around 5C at the moment with rain. check out yahoo weather for exact temperatures.

Ray disregard that weather front-it was always a maybe event and still is.
    It *could* produce some snow.
There is absolutely no doubt about what comes in its wake.
Wcheck says now that he's100% convinced that the front would produce snow, but a few posts back here he is being more realistic...

The fact of the matter is regarding snow on monday, the only dead cert for it to my mind is higher ground (above 600ft) anything to lower ground consider a bonus.
It is so unpredictable and borderline that the Met may even be saying something different again tomorrow night :)

As regards after that take snow as a given.

Irish1 all UKMO output down plays Irish sea "lake effect" snow unless its going into wales.
This time it has no choice but to head into Ireland.

My poor faithless friends...have faith in me this time :)

    So is it actually likely?

I haveto say it hasn't seemed particularly colder today than any other day. I did but a wooley hat in case though ;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,140 ✭✭✭highdef

I'm beginning to lose faith myself after that forecast on RTE - Even if it ends up 3 or 4C colder than is predicted, it'll be still way too warm for snow, never mind snow that'll settle!!! And as Earthman said, there'll be snow over 600ft from Monday, I'll have to go up to the top of Howth Head @ 561ft - That's my only hope!!!

The cold air, the really cold stuff syke from monday night right through untill friday at least.

The air from monday night is easterly and increasingly from western Russia in origin.
The stuff now is just a maratime northerly which is cold but not cold enough.
