I think I feel a bit more confident about it now, been so many let downs, not just this winter but for years! 2001 was good but from memory only lasted a day really. Other than that I think 1996 is the last decent bit of snow I can remember - if this week comes near that I will be happy!

Look at the Irish Met sneaking in the words snow in a few places!
    Tonight
Cloudy, damp weather in the West and Southwest this evening will gradually clear away overnight. Elsewhere there will be largely clear skies. A few wintry showers of sleet or snow are expected near North facing coasts during the night. It will be a very cold night, lowest temperatures plus 3 to minus 1 degrees, coldest over the eastern half of the country with a widespread frost.
    Tomorrow
    20 February 2005
    Wind speeds in km/h Tomorrow
Staying cold tomorrow but dry and bright for most areas. Counties along the North and East facing coasts are at risk of a few snow showers. Temperatures will typically reach 3 to 6 degrees in the cold northerly wind.

I saw that forecast when it was issued this morning and it was quite the different!

Wenesdays precipitation looks mad-thats looking like a very snowy day along the East coast.

I wont even begin to talk of what some models are saying of thursday and friday as its too far out, but if it comes to pass(a lot of doubt) the country would be closed :D

I'm saying its going to be cold enough and the indications are that there will be active snow showers during the week along the East coast and temperatures near zero.
The snow will be a hit and miss affair because its in shower form but if you get it, theres little doubt that it will settle I think.

    There was!

I was in Kilkenny City last night and there was sleet around 12am, some wet snow flakes around Freshford and Cullohill on the way home.

Thought so. I'm just on the outskirts of the City. It's pretty chilly out there now. Lots of heavy looking clouds in the sky.

It is 6.5c out there at the moment - http://www.nra.ie/RoadWeatherInfo/Map/data/htm/WeatherTable.htm

It is rounded up to 7c for this - http://www.met.ie/recentweather/

Eitherway, far too mild for sleet or snow at the moment.

And the radar is showing sweet FA in the lines of precip around us: http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/ukweather/n_ireland/rainfall.shtml

Ooooh look, this does not happen often, and snow over Ireland is rarely pinned by the BBC, regardless of whether it will snow here!

According to the 6z GFS 28mm of precipitation will fall in Dublin on Monday..

Who would have thought at the start of February that we would
have a chance of entering our coldest spell and most prolonged spell
of weather in years! The cold spell WILL last until next Saturday
with most runs keeping it going until the following Wednesday  :D

There are few words to describe what we are about to enter,
it is a weather lovers paradise! The coldest and most prolonged
spell of weather since well i dont know somewhere in the mid 90's anyway!

Snow showers will affect the east everyday next week i have never
experienced that! All i remeber from the worst of cold spells is one
big snow and that's it, not this time folks! This is something out
of a fanatasy world and boy you'll know it :D

There could be a 20cm's of lying snow in Dublin on Monday
for god sake :D:D

Okay okay Weathercheck, chill a bit!

We have seen quite a bit of snow this year already (compared to years since 1996)

It will snow, and there will be quite a bit for Dublin, after all you guys done poorly in the recent zonality setup snow showers.

I am very interested in the 3am to 12pm Monday period, looks very good for a regional part of Ireland:

North Kilkenny, North West Carlow, West Kildare, Laois, North East Tipperary, Offaly Westmeath, Meath South West.

    Basically, a 30 - 40 mile radius of Mountmellick.
