    To update ye all;

Light snow showers will continue to skirt eastern coasts
possibly giving 1 or 2cm's in some areas through the day
    and through tonight.

Monday with be much more cloudy with spells of sleet or snow
in the east and heavier rain in the west. Later on Monday the east
will turn even colder and heavy snow showers will move ashore.

Tuesday will see the east constently being affected by moderate
to heavy snow showers on an easterly wind accumalations by now
of upto 10-15cm's in the worst areas.

Wednesday will be even colder still with heavy snow showers
pulled onto the eastern half of Ireland, yet more snow for
the east and mxima near freezing 1-2c.

Thursday similar with moderate to heavy snow showers coming
    ashore in the east.

Not a bad wek of weather ahead :D:D

I notice a line of showers in the Irish sea has formed
    http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/radar/ukuknirf.htm

With an easterly tinge to the wind today it could
    spell fun :D

  • W.check I've actually had a few snow flurries here this morning and the sky to the East is very black.
The wind is from the north still though so skirting the coast line is all that they will do for now.
It's interesting though that in a north south flow, looking at the radar that those showers are running down the Irish sea so close to the coast.

are you going to change it to a red snow alert now :)

there is a small chance that the west might get some of this later in the week. thats just an opinion of mine though

How about this for a good chance of getting snow: 450 ft asl, 5 miles east from coast, living in south Louth. It doesn't get much better than that :D I think there needs to be a change of title for this thread to Red Snow Alert. At this stage it's looking guaranteed that there will be a fair amount of snow over the next week. Is it possible to have a red alert just for regions, i.e. the East Coast?

I reckon Wicklow, Dublin, Meath and Louth are at the biggest risk from
Monday afternoon due to the long fetch compare to other counties
    from the ENE wind.

Today witht he wind turning NNE or NE Dublin and Wicklow are most
    at risk i would think.

Some beautiful cumulonimbus towering off the coast now :D

Another shower pushing into NE Wicklow now. Flakes very small but getting heavier.

More snow, not the big flake kind, but the light hail stuff, but if the cloud could just move a mile to east, it would be heavy. Blue sky to my west.

In fact I'd call this hail rather than snow. Temp had got back up to 3C, but is now dropping again. Dewpoint -1.3C

  • well ok :)

    Flurries here and getting darker

can i suggest that the title be edited to include snow photographs?

    Red it is :D

Though I think the best action is going to be from Tuesday onwards.

This is only an antipasti (I think)
You'd never know i was in an italian restaurant last night :p

Is there any snow dew for cork over the next few days

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,235 ✭✭✭lucernarian

Fingers crossed on Monday morning I'll be laughing all the way to the garden shed *for shovels and homemade toboggens[spelling?]* instead of the dreary journey to school on a "winter" morning :D Heck I stand a better chance than most coz I live on a hill! (well the NW side of one anyway) Oh the fun of it  :p

    possible but very unlikely :/
possibly East cork anywhere exposed to an East wind and the coast.
possibly from a weather front late tonight/monday but on high ground only I think.
After that Very dry and frosty away from the East.

very slim chance of it later in the wee, today would appear to be for the east coast . lets hope that it does not rain so if it does come this far west that it actually sticks this time. we have had snow twice this winter and it hasnt stuck on either occasion.

we had snow once so far it was on christmas day it was 6 inches high at cork airport

  • Heavy snow shower here now

    Just in!

    http://www.metoffice.com/weather/europe/uk/warnings.html

Looking good for the UK and by extension Ireland especially when they warn about a general band of PPN affecting western areas. :D

    Phoenix Park just now...

Nothing here yet. Blue, blue skies, nothing on the ground. There is actually warmth in the sun here, very little breeze. I can see clouds to the east, but they do not look threathing, high enough up.

How about a new thread Earthman, now that the event is upon us and we'r at page 18 here?

  • it is snowing like mad here now w.check
big huge flakes and a strong breeze

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,778 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Get the feeling you'll be seeing alot this week Earthman :D

  • I'm merging these threads to keep it all in the one place.

Snow is settling on the top of the car and dusting on the ground

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,944 ✭✭✭✭Villain

Do you think those showers will make it inland, i.e. to carlow

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,778 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Tomorrow's feature seems to have been thumbed down :)

Moderate to heavy rain in the west with light snow in the east :D

Accumalations of only 3-5cm's across the midlands and east
after that the winds turn proper easterly and it's game on
    for the east :D

heavy snow showers all wee :D

  • they are only going down the coast atm
not getting more than 3 miles in
I am at the limit of them I think.
The high ground to the west of me is getting nnothing which is a turn up for the books.
The showers will get in to you certainly from monday night and through the week as they should be much heavier by then

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,778 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

I hate to send shivers down peoples spine but from Monday
there will be a constent feed of snow onto the east coast
until Thursday or Friday :D

Could get towards 20cm's in places more like 10cm's in at sea level tho :D

Yea just looked at the radar, wind is almost straight from the North, but at least its cold enough to snow now. I'll have to give my mate in Edinburgh a call and see how things are shaping up there.
