Very good game, well done to Ballygunner.

They played the better hurling overall.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,221 ✭✭✭YabaDabaDooley

The Limerick men never came out for the second half. Perhaps they got a bit complacent at half time and thought they'd broken Ballygunners spirit. Or more likely the Gunners just upped the gears to turbo speed and Na Piarsaigh had no answer. Incredible 30 minutes of hurling and dominance from the Waterford men. They look ravenous for back-to-back All Ireland's.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,004 ✭✭✭PeggyShippen

Yeah Ballygunner deserved it. Played the better hurling in that second half. The ref missed a straight red for the Waterford guy that elbowed Casey in the head. It was blatant.

Everything Ballygunner tried came off in the second half and NaP messed up every shot and a lot of their passes. Defending for the goal was a junior B mistake.

Can't have any complaints when you only score 4 points in a half.

But Waterford are a poor Liam McCarthy county?

    Am I wrong?

Really a killer in the Hurling having the All Ireland Semi Finals been Munster vs Leinster and Galway vs Ulster

You could argue with Galway not having a provincial championship and Ulster Senior only having 2 games (a Semi final and final) they should always be playing the Munster and Leinster Champions only in the AI semi finals not each other. Even Galway in Munster and maybe a winner of an Ulster playoff going into Leinster

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,852 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

In fairness if NaP won today they would have only 2 games just like an Ulster side.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,004 ✭✭✭PeggyShippen

Yeah the Connacht Champions and Ulster Champions shouldn't be allowed play each ither for a final place. They both should be in Leinster.

Very high quality game today but Na Piarsaigh dipped badly in tbe secondhalf. The ref was poor enough..let alot of trips go and of course the elbow on P Casey. I have to mention it again because it was a dirty blow and tv highlighted it. That's not taking away from the Gunners. They are top class.

Slaughtneil only won a semi final who now face Dunloy who got straight into the Ulster Final

The Na Pairsaigh "physicality" worked in the first half but when they ran out of steam, Ballygunner were allowed to display their skill. The ref let too much go in that first half with players using their hurls like swords/weapons and non stop pulling and dragging. Class won out in the end, thankfully.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,852 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

So if Slaughtneil win they are in the exact same position NaP would have been in.

The big imbalance is how much harder it is for some clubs to even win county.

I'm a big fan of change in the Inter county tournaments but the club game should be kept simple at this level.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,004 ✭✭✭PeggyShippen

Na Piarsaigh let it slip after half time. I think they took the foot off the pedal and you cant do that against a fine team like Ballygunner.

As for the poster hoping on about 'physicality' like it's a bad thing. Shur the All Ireland champions are probably the most physical team of all time and have unbelievable skill. That's how the Liimerick public expect all teams to play sport. It's a physical battle first. I think that's laudable. Wait until Ballyhale meet Ballygunner, another battle.

Next Sunday's live hurling games are the two Leinster hurling semi finals.

First up is Naas v Ballyhale at 13.30 followed by Kilmacud v St Mullins at 15.30. Both games in Croke Park. I'd prefer two stand alone fixtures with one team with home advantage for a better atmosphere.

It's a pity TG4 couldn't have have fit in the Galway hurling final replay and really make it a Super Sunday of hurling.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,979 ✭✭✭Billy Ocean

Its actually Crokes and Mullins and Glen and Cairgin in Ulster football on TV, Naas and Ballyhale is on tg4 player or something like that, wonder are RTE no showing any games due to the world cup? Think they've Munster v Connacht on Saturday evening too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,221 ✭✭✭YabaDabaDooley

I'll have the phone or laptop at the ready for that first game. Hopefully Naas can make a game of it they did beat Shinrone fairly well but the wide open spaces of Croke Park where the guts of Kilkenny's forward line will be lining out for Shamrocks is a serious step up to anything they will have faced.

For the first time since 2000 (according to Wikipedia), there will be no Kilkenny team in the Leinster Junior club hurling championship final. Blacks and Whites were beaten by Commercials. Horeswood of Wexford beat St. Feichins of Louth in the other semi final.

Two senior champions in the Leinster club Intermediate hurling final, Trim against Bray. Have a feeling Trim could begin to dominate in Meath in the near future as they're underage sides are steamrolling their respective championships. Would be a great boost for Meath hurling if they could win the Intermediate all Ireland meaning the senior champions would qualify for the Leinster senior club championship.

Fist play to Naas but Ballyhales quality showed

Looking like Kilmacud will appear in both Leinster senior finals. Say they will win the football but Ballyhale will be too strong in the Hurling

Really not fair how the Leinster teams get too play in Croke Park.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,852 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Its stupid playing club games there except the final.

80,000 seats to host 2 little towns or villages. Plenty of nice county grounds around Leinster would be happy to host.

Leinster club hurling championship is terrible this year. It needs a good final

I believe the reasoning is could be a once in a lifetime opportunity for players and guaranteed good playing surface but I'd agree doesn't lead to a good atmosphere.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,852 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

The other 3 provinces get by just fine without needing to promise a possible once in a lifetime chance so if sure the lads won't be too upset.

Also feks up potential home and away deals like other places have.

Was impressed with Naas, pity they couldn't build on the good start but ultimately too many missed chances, they'd be competitive in every county championship in the country.

Can see them winning Leinster in the next 5 years or so. They're dominating in Kildare (this year was their fourth title in a row) and they've still got a conveyor belt of young talent coming through.

All Ireland Club Hurling Semi finals set for 17th/18th December

Going to be odd enough to only have 2 teams left going into Christmas

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,820 ✭✭✭CrabRevolution

Looking at the All Ireland fixtures, I'm wondering if someone in Leinster GAA got mixed up with the dates when scheduling the competitions.

The Leinster Intermediate and Junior Football finals are tomorrow. The winner gets a 5 week break before playing the All Ireland semi final on the 7th of January.

Meanwhile the Leinster Intermediate and Junior Hurling finals are next Saturday, and the winner gets 1 week to prepare for the All Ireland semi final on the 17th!

Every other province is playing their hurling by tomorrow, and finishing the football next week. Am I missing some glaring reason why Leinster are doing it backwards?

Disappointing performance from Kilmacud in Leinster hurling final. Lots of sloppy play, poor first touch, simple handling errors gifting Ballyhale lots of easy scores. Match is as good as over.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,378 ✭✭✭robbiezero

Very disappointing. Men against boys for that half. Thought they would put it up to them for a while anyway, but Ballyhale are completely out hurling and bullying them all over the field.
