Warehousing of revenue debt is going to be a big problem for businesses in due course as revenue are going to forgive **** all. And even the wage subsidy is going to be reviewed and they will go and recover as much as they can. revenue are sharpening their knives waiting for government to release them

So I'm heading for my booster shortly at my GP surgery, I need it as I'm immune compromised, I honestly never thought I'd even think about or even say it but after yesterday's rather depressing debacle, I'm actually beginning to wonder, what is the point really . Saying this or even thinking this way is shocking but I don't think I'm alone 😕

They absolutely are and it was very curious a report only 2 days ago that Revenue have reported a number of companies to the Gardai, essentially claiming blatant Robbery, not just Fraud. Separately the CRO told companies struggling to meet deadline for returns to go to the district court to seek extensions, I'm no company law expert but I agree the knives are being sharpened, not just over at revenue but also commercial Landlords Queuing up outside the High Court . I understand landlords have entitlements too but my god this is going to get very messy.

I remember when the covid pass was introduced and I believe there was no expiration date. Now it's a year, in some countries it's even less.

The deceit is just incredible really.

There are lads in here that defended the summer restrictions to the very hilt. The recreational shills telling us that if staying closed for another 3 months meant we never had to close again it was worth it, that keeping bars shut just another few weeks to get jabs in arms was worth it, that the super duper vaccine rollout was going to be the end of it. And when you pointed out that delaying reopening until the end of October was a bad idea they called you a doom monger and whinger.

They didn't get it then, they won't get it now. They defended restrictions in the summer and they will try to hand wave them away again now.

The point is to protect yourself from a potentially lethal virus.

I know that revenue have already taken a chunk of money back from our company. Not in any criminal sense, they just audited all the payments over the initial pandemic response and said some had to be returned, but it shows that they are not operating in NPHET's wishy washy world of make believe, they are coming for every penny they can get back.

That's another nightmare looming the commercial property sector. The value of them will be dropping like a stone and those owning the buildings will have big loans that need to be serviced yet they can't get the income coming in because the businesses cannot earn anything. So if these companies are over exposed and can't pay what they owe then that exposes the banks.

At this point I’m pretty confused …

Firstly the use & definition of a vaccine was to prevent infection , develop immunity and spread thus boosting herd immunity. But to date the spread continues. Then there are the mutations … then catch up with another booster or vaccine. It seems a bit of a merry-go-round albeit not so merry.

I'm still angry with Micael Martin. and that pathetic speach and lack of leadership shown yesterday, destroying an indusrty cause he has no backbone to fight for what is right. 94% of the popluation is vaccinated and cases and hospital numbers are stablising in fact going down and he takes away hope for so many, to pander to the over anxious and Tony Holohan.

Hopefully in the years to come a better vaccine can be developed but this is the best we have now and it prevents individuals from getting seriously sick and putting hospitals under pressure also restricting access to other vital services.

The restrictions are disproportionately hitting young people , single people and lonely people

I'm seeing a lot of people in bad mental shape

There's a lot of couples and married people don't notice it that much

I wish Martin and Holohan showed the same empathy for people in poor mental shape as they did for Covid - but nevermind, only one thing matters today , for Martin and NPHET.

If you are immunocompromised, get the booster.

Sure did you not hear what Michael said? These new restrictions are the fault of the new variant, nothing to do with anything that government or public health have done!

There will not be hyper inflation. There will be inflation, but the world has been trying to get back to 2-4% interest rates since the 2008 financial crash.

Lowest case numbers in 4 weeks and what does the Irish Government do?

    Give us more restrictions!!!!

I think Im living in a Father Ted or Fawlty Towers episode.

Are people willing to do what it takes to end this now?

Because the only way it ends is with stop complying.

That video of masking the baby a few pages back is disgusting

I don't think RTE are engaged in any organised agenda, I think as an institution it is just pure lazy.

Brendan o Connor is on now, who has he had on talking about covid and it's effect on the hospitality industry? Panti Bliss, Luke o Neil and Marco Pierre White.

They really do just live in their own bubble.

The new variant that has so far killed no one (thankfully)

Meanwhile the headline on RTE news is hospital cases at lowest for 4 weeks , but lets destroy the Entertanment and hospitality industry, cause this is ther busies time of year - Weak inept leadership

Agreed -a better vaccine would be wonderful. That said every problem has multiple solutions. Some of those solutions have huge knock-on effects -as we are currently experiencing -people’s livelihoods, mental health, young people’s development -effects we won’t know the full outcome of for years to come.

It’s widely accepted that this virus mostly affects the immune compromised, and older people (again with waning immune system). Younger people with the rare exception are mostly off the hook. Wouldn’t a solution whereby allowing for the spread of the virus amongst the healthy and young would not only give them natural immunity and create herd immunity? This approach could have been undertaken in a staggered timeframe while vulnerable could have been protected via temporary ‘cocooning’ (dislike that term 🙂), boosting the immune system via inexpensive recognised means (Hasn’t the tax on health supplements increased during the pandemic?) , and medical interventions to lessen the symptoms.

Meanwhile the vaccine wonder-cure-for-all hasn’t (as far as I understand) contributed to herd immunity and may indeed be encouraging further mutations within the virus for which it is intended to protect us?

Who’s to say the virus can’t cross species again and jump to dogs and cats 🐱 …maybe birds 🐦. Will we have to intervene upon all planetary life forms?

A multiple solution approach would be interesting - then we could see which is doing best (among different countries). This ‘one size fits all’ strategy is frankly bizzare and the unprecedented interventions & restrictions certainly bring with it , unprecedented (potentially avoidable) knock-on-effects.

Need to think of the worst case. Europe only uses one vaccine so what happens if it does not work very well on this new thing. I mean 3 have been discarded and scapegoated so i can't see them rushing to supply certain countries anymore.

It's like putting all your eggs in one basket isn't it. Maybe prudent to keep on the right side of the vaccine makers because one day you never know if you might need them.

A restauranteur and a bar / live venue operator? How is their opinion not relevant?

Talking to the boss in my local last night, they aren't going to bother implementing the table nonsense or any of that crap.

My Christmas will involve 6 households meeting. To be honest at this stage I have no sympathy for anyone restricting the number of households, if they are stupid enough to let that bunch of clowns dictate how many people come to their home, they are probably doing their guests a favour by keeping them away.

    How are you today raind?

Agree with you on the mixed messaging. Had my wedding in September, the week before the wedding numbers went from 50 to 100 Leo was on RTE news saying people should plan for 50 people at September weddings. My now wife was in tears, all unnecessary as well.

With regard to MM even the diehard FF voters here in Cork will admit he is out of his dept. Him, Donnelly and Foley are the worst minsters I ever remember. This time last year Foley was telling the public that schools are safe environments and kids don't spread covid. Sure they are.

Great thanks Time. A little hungover but otherwise fine. A little bit frustrated at those unwilling to wait before acting as trends in data are indicating an improvement in the situation, but thankfully I have not had the time or inclination to go back through the threads to see what bizarre motivations have been assigned to the decisions or those posts castigating vaccinations, which is the only reason the situation is reasonable at the moment, and boosters, which is the reason things are improving.

Will you go with the 2 prong or 4 prong pitch fork?
