Wouldn't most counties be in the same boat though? The number one goalie tends to play all the inter-county matches and doesn't get rested. And the younger understudy is on the bench until such time that they get the number one spot.

It was amazing how David Blanchfield was left on the line all summer had a bad patch in Westmeath that was his end then brought in second half the all Ireland final did very well.

Don't see much value in North v South Junior/Intermediate/Senior games at this stage of the year myself. Hurling now doesn't relate to summer stuff so don't think you'd learn a whole pile that you shouldn't already know.

    Case history —-> trend data

    It’s 2022 now, not 1995

A sample of a players’ championship over 5/6/7 games is far better than a one-off exhibition match

Almost every top level sports team uses data before doing the eye test on any player. If they don’t pass the first test of the data side of things, they don’t get a look-in

Surely we won't see Wally , Buckley , Fogarty , Hogan on the panel again and Richie Leahy /Alan Murphy what's the point of them being tried over and over

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,726 ✭✭✭Grats

Buckley would definitely have retired had Cody stayed on, and he may well do anyway. He was played in the forwards for the early part of this year and not used thereafter. I doubt Buckley would have stood back and watched Hegarty run riot in the Final.

What do you think this is - the Premier league? My guess is you watch the transfer show on sky sports news and think everything is like that.

Any predictions for the junior & intermediate finals?

  • Registered Users Posts: 622 ✭✭✭Marrooned

Village 87 commented back in early September about how things were looking good for the village to do a clean sweep at 13’s,15’s and 17’s Nothing is ever a sure thing in this life, everything must be fought for and Dicksboro certainly did that today and also in the minor final, great passion, great hunger.

Windgap seem to be favorites with most people but Black's and whites will fight for everything so should be interesting. Seems like most people hoping Black's and whites win after the additions to Windgap team.

Intermediate is 50 50, goals will probably decide it, they went point for point for most of league final, hopefully weather is better than expected and we get good matches.

Blacks and Whites bet Windgap last year so will have no fear and will fight it out to the wire, on Paper Windgap should win so it should be tight.

Intermediate should be a fascinating game, if Thomastown can handle R Hogan and not let him dictate things they should win. But Thomastown will depend a lot on the Donnelly's and Jonjo for scores.

Brilliant Intermediate final anyway. Fair dues to Danesfort, far better team all over. No hard luck story for Thomastown this time, goals against the run of play kept them in it right up to the end, but Danesfort much better at picking off their points. Plenty of good young lads there too, should be well able for senior next year.

Very impressed with Danesfort, their point scoring was outstanding and they deserved the win. Tough on Thomastown who contributed to a dramatic match.

Couple of points. In the junior match, the referee moved the ball up around 25 metres after dissent, it should be 13 metres

The Thomastown penalty was struck about the 19 metre line

How is the Kilkenny gaa website so slow to be updated? Two county finals and No results 🙄

  • Registered Users Posts: 143 ✭✭sportsmaddad

You must have woke them up - results there now!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,746 ✭✭✭brookville

Skeough were full credit for their win. Some nice fowards in nipper lennon and Jamie byrne. Windgap will be very dissapointed with their performance I've seen them a few times but they can have no complaints with the result

The intermediate was absolutely fantastic. The narrative is ttown haven't the bottle and the stats don't lie they've being beaten the last 5 years in semi and finals but they were 2nd best today but brought the game back 3 or 4 times when it was gone. They fought to the bitter end. I was very impressed with danesfort. They're backs were excellent des dunne and Daire o neill. They're half foward line worked like dogs the two wing fowards were up and down and got some great scores, young Bruton corner foward was electric and of course the magican Richie got some great scores.Fair play to both teams they gave it everything for nearly 80 mins

Finally I hope the injured danesfort corner back is OK.He stayed on the stretcher to watch the match behind the ambulance so hopefully he'll make a full recovery.

A great days entertainment to finish the year

With Naas promoted to Senior after winning the All Ireland good chance Leinster Intermediate Final will be Oulart and Danesfort.

  • Registered Users Posts: 143 ✭✭sportsmaddad

I don't think they got too far last time did they? Should be determined to make up for it this time.

  • Registered Users Posts: 151 ✭✭kentu

That was some afternoons of entertainment 2 absolute belter games, couldn't have got better value for money.

Windgap drove numerous poor wides in the 1st half and will be kicking themsleves for that, skeough were very efficent with their shooting over the hour it just shows the value a freetaker can have on winning big games. Along with that they are a side that is very well conditioned, stick to their game plan and fight for everything, wouldn't have been in top 5 favourites for winning it out for sure.

Danesfort putting up a score of 1-36 no matter what grade of hurling is some going, daire o'neil, des dunne were majestic. While paul murphy got lucky at the end of normal time giving the ball away twice did not result in them on the losing side, aside from that he hurled some ball into his forwards. James Mullally, Richie Hogan, and Jack bruton got some astounding scores. Jake Cullen got 3rd goal in as many games coming off the bench, while Ben Whitty also looks like a very good talent to come.

Thomastown will be gutted and not going to be any easier for them to win it now with another year gone although they have no lack of talent coming through as ever. They all fought very hard but like others said here they were 2nd best and goals kept them in it with a fighting chance.

The Intermediate is littered with serial losers over the years (I don't mean losers in the pejorative sense, more defeated)

    G'namanagh lost 73, 74, 75 before winning in '76 (lost again in 96, 97)

    The Boro lost in 76, 77, 79 & 81, a new team won it finally in '91

    Piltown lost in 84, 85 & 88

Gowran lost in 89 & 91, won it in 92

Carrickshock lost in 02, 03, won in 04

Ballyraggett lost in 12, 14, 15 before winning in 2017

    & now THomastown

The above doesn't take account of any semi finals lost during their runs. The trouble for the likes of Ballyraggett is that it took 6 years to cross the line, the team has aged and can be mentally spent, look at them now...Thomastown would have the same potential issue.

It's not an easy grade, that's for sure.

I think Naas will give the Offaly senior champions plenty of it in the senior.

Oulart will be very strong for this intermediate grade but Danesfort have the team to match them and possibly beat them.

Very disappointing day for Jimmy Walshe's franchise. The Callan/Windgap/Galmoy contingent could not live with the heavy favourites tag. Congrats to Black & Whites on a great display and excellent game. Hard luck to Thomastown and congrats to Danesfort on a very entertaining game. TTown unlucky to bump into a Danesfort team who played to there max and and one of the best displays that team has ever given. Great day in the Park yesterday.

Did the rower not spend a few years trying to get over the line?

It's mad I wonder if ttown played the final in August would they win? Maybe not because the score they got yesterday would win two county finals. It was a brilliant days entertainment. Dfort fully deserved it and I was impressed with a few of their lads. Ttown were 2nd best but to their credit they kept going and going and going. Tttown have a big panel and a young panel minus farrel and hara. They won minor b and u15 b they've players coming but this won't get any easier. They've rower, cshock, lisdowney all again next year. Its the physiological thing.

Infairness to village 87 he is saying the truth. I thought windgap could of being weighed down with the favourites tag. The landy goal miss in the 2nd half was a turning point. If he just kicked at it he had a goal but jack doyle was jittery a few times.

Again like ttown it won't be easy for windgap, tullogher, piltown, graig,Freshford, boro, etc will all be there again next year. It's so competitive. Fair play to the two winners yesterday the two best teams on the day won.callan getting it right underage aswell

Good win for O’Loughlins over The Village Sat 3:17 to 2:11. Two other quarters this weekend? Dunamaggin v Dicksboro and Thomastown v Bennetsbridge.

From the outside looking in I’d go for Dicksboro or O’Loughlins. How good are Mooncoin? Would they be in contention?
