Peak De Gea in round 8 is exactly why Neuer was a poor round 1 pick

I've a feeling a good few people were happy to wait until the not at the Euros round to choose a goalie.

Combine the goalies available in that round with the already available pool and I would imagine that even the 12th chosen goalie wouldn't cost you too dearly (as the fall in standards isn't that huge) if by leaving him so late you were able to get a top defense in front of him.

That said obviously I'd prefer to have someone like prime Neuer in my squad.

Wonder is anyone other than myself going to go with anything other than a flat back four?

Considered switching from the flat back 4 to a 3 in defence there but it overall didn't make sense with someone like Jorginho available to play as a DM. Going for a hard working and technically gifted midfield so worked perfectly.

You still have the option of switching Matthäus to sweeper.

Was half thinking that too but watching videos of him recently and he really was an electric player with the ball at his feet. To get that many goals in Serie A the time he was there is no mean feat though he was taking set pieces I guess.

While he obviously changed his game later in his career and that would be what I would be more familiar with, if I take nothing else from this draft it will be a greater appreciation for just how good he was.

I thought he was gonna slip back upto me. I really wanted him. Super player, was surprised he made it so close but that's the difference between a 12 team draft and a 16 team draft.

    Think the 12 works better

Surprised how long Koke and Mount lasted

Almost took Koke this round but decided that Jorginho would give a bit more stability to the team and not shackle the 2 other midfielders. Unsure if I shouldn't have taken him now.

As we approach round 10, a reminder of the rules for the "didn't make it" round.

    > Currently active players who play for a UEFA nation.
    > Not playing at the Euros, either due to team not qualifying or not getting called up for any reason.
    > Form based on career/peak form

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

i'm going to be fascinated by this.

i think a couple of teams are standing out, but this round could make a difference.

Ramos going first is even interesting!

Here lads if this continues I'm going to throw my toys out of the pram at my Jorginho pick last round. Someone pick him :p

Yeah really interesting round ahead, really struggled between Ramos and VVD. Was thinking of picking VVD to keep the Liverpool fans onside but couldn't ignore Ramos in the end

Haaland was a standout choice. I just couldn't justify him and Van Basten in the same team.

and yet MNG now has Mbappe, Henry and Haaland. Suppose that's what you do when someone else already has a Messi/Ronaldo frontline. Jaysus this draft!

Personally I would have gone with a top quality playmaker , but understand why he picked haaland

it makes sense for MNG. Mbappe and Henry can both play wing forward.

    Very serious :)

I think your team is far better off with Trent.

Sensible… like sensible soccer, because Van Basten was a goal scoring superstar hero and every goal goal goal says he’s the best in the world.

Had no idea Robben was still playing.

Fully intended to get a right back in this round, but you can't ignore Andres Iniesta.

my own fault, and I should've asked for clarification, but I assumed international retirement would rule you out.

obviously, 'for any reason', includes that. but i just got it in my head!

fúck, there are a lot of picks to choose from.

I'd be inclined to include "internationally retired" players, as it's not always clear if a players retired, or just not selected anymore. Same reason I didn't include them in the legends round.
    It did come up here

100% knew iniesta couldn't last to me but was holding out hope the remaining people who might need his position didn't know he was still playing in Japan and tbh was starting to believe a little that might be the case. Great draft pick

showed my age with my last post above but...

Song was totally stuck in my head

I had Iniesta pegged as the first man to go, so he is a great pickup for 8th pick in this round! Would have had him in a heartbeat if my team allowed it, but Robben was the plan probably since round 5 or 6.

Booo! Why can't I have nice things!

    buffon-wikiart-1.png

great pick, Some would say The Great Dane but I'd consider Buffon the best goalie of my lifetime.

No idea who I'm going for in this round now
