Jesus Christ. Walked right up to the Gardai and aimed a massive firework right at their heads. Hope to God that scumbag is caught and locked up.

So what the video shows is one idiot firing what appears to be a firework directly at Garda - and you wonder why the Garda acted the way they do???

Fireworks going off, members of the mob carrying (and dropping) what looks like baseball bats.
Bunch of fecking muppets, clearly large portion looking for a fight.
Anyone caught with fireworks or a potential weapon needs to be locked up.

Totally agree, this is no way to protest . Looks like a bunch of trouble makers turned up. Disgraceful to aim a firework at Gardaí and even the crowd.
There are so many ways to protest and campaign especially during this time. Online petitions, youtube live events, song release!

The London protest is live on youtube.

I am near the protests now. Most of the crowd looked like normal respectable people. The stink of weed is everywhere lol.

I completely agree with you. Violence should always be condemned. And the moron the firing the firework will face arrest hopefully.

This is not the way to stage and carry out a protest.

Went over for a wander to Grafton Street , it's quietened down a lot. Very large Garda presence about 7 or 8 vans just rolled down the street. Most of the lads here standing upo near the top of the street surrounding gardai are almost all young dressed in trackies, loud aggressive and looking for a fight. Pungent smell of weed on the whole street dunno if that's the fireworks or what ??

I'm sure it'll be "police brutality" and a gofundme set up for this patriot.

This was to be expected. All of these "protests" have been riots. Look at Holland and its "protests", they were posted here and celebrated as being a good thing.

I thought that stat last week might cause a little social unrest. An island with a tiny population has the worst lockdown in the EU and the 4th in the world. Agree with it or not that points to an incompetent government.

Violence must be condemned. Protesting must be done by peaceful means and to come together to protest in a civil manner. A number of those individuals were clearly out to cause trouble today. We don't know how many as of yet. But there were people there seeking trouble.

Did you think? At what part of the street?
Maybe I took less notice but the louder people who were more noticeable seemed overwhelmingly to be really young men in their teens and 20's I only arrived a few mins ago though

Think it's pretty clear a very sizeable portion of that crowd turned up looking for trouble.

More than a few turned up looking for free trackies in the planned chaos I'd wager.

Where the Luke Kelly statue was. People with flags, was pretty nice atmosphere tbh.

Violence is unacceptable. Plain and simple.

The Gardai are right to go in hard. Anyone looking or asking for trouble deserves the fullest force of the law. Lots of scumbags their by the looks of it. If it was in Paris the police would use tear gas

It points also to a shambles of a health service . We are locked down so hard and so long because our ICU and hospital capacity is woeful . The dogs on the street know it but they will still blame the public

And it's was the so called 'National Party' right on the front lines once more. Any time there's trouble or physical attacks, they always seem to be there front and centre.

Oh right, I didn't realise they were part of the protest really. Yeh it's all quite sedate apart from the area where people are crowding the gardai.

Most of the videos look like a bit of craic and pretty normal.

Your man with the firework will have ****ed up everything though and given them a narrative to cut zero slack now to any lockdown protest, unfortunately.

Yes they had my body my choise signs a few of the women. Not often you can reuse abortion signs.

Like the protests in the US over the last year, it was "mostly peaceful"

It is kind of fun feels a bit like a parade or something! Clearly a lot of people here to see a bit of action and having a nosey to satisfy curiosity rather than intent to march angril or anything like that , just casually walking along following the big groups of gardai at a distance !

I don't know about anyone else but I'm absolutely delighted watching these scenes. Good to see some visible action against these nonsense restrictions.

It takes one imbecile to delight RTÉ and other strident lockdown advocates, they'll have their "all protestors are scummers" narrative sown up now.

Not sure why you are not allowed protest now.

Obviously the guy with the firework is a scumbag and there does seem to be some characters there but why aren't they allowed to protest if they want to.

Yep. Fireworks aimed at Gardai would bring some of the posters here delight. I respect the honesty.
