Not really, unless someone very slow is checking it. I will take the assumption that DOE have everyone working for them's contact details. Get them to update consent so they can share with HSE, DOE send file to HSE with everyones contact details and HSE send out notices for vaccinations.

Don't see the need to check it, should be a unique id for every worker anyway in the DOE.

Their systems are probably sh1t of course, which is probably why they can't do something like that.

The basic thing thats lacking in all this is a unique personal identifier for all transactions with government. It would make all these issues so much easier but anytime it has been suggested the civil liberties mob are up in arms. This was the perfect opportunity to bring it in but it will never happen here.

    From what?

I suspect from 1m. Various politicians and media types have been lazily claiming that we well have 1m doses pm for the second quarter, when they more likely should have said on average 1m per month for the second quarter, with deliveries increasing during the quarter i.e. more in June and less in April. I was expecting a fair bit less in April, to be honest.

I'll be delighted if we manage 800K doses this month

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

If the Ro was exactly 1.0 under a certain lockdown level, and 10% of the population got vaccinated with a 90% effective vaccine, that would effectively reduced the Ro to 0.91 then wouldn't it? Keeping everything else constant.

Well, yes, if by 90% effective you mean 90% effective at stopping transmission. Now, a vaccine that is 90% effective at stopping illness is not necessarily 90% effective at stopping transmission. But data is starting to emerge (Israel) that tells us the vaccines are very good at stopping transmission (though maybe not quite as high as 90%).

You are also assuming that the 10% of the population are a representative sample of the overall population. This is probably not true at the initial phases of the vaccination campaign, because the main targets are older people and more vulnerable people.

Anyway, as our vaccination campaign progresses through April, we may see R fall gradually with more people vaccinated each week (and with pretty limited easing of restrictions)

More good news from Pfizer/Biontech, they've updated their Phase 3 results

"From the 927 confirmed symptomatic cases of COVID-19 in the trial, 850 cases of COVID-19 were in the placebo group and 77 cases were in the BNT162b2 group"

"In South Africa, where the B.1.351 lineage is prevalent and 800 participants were enrolled, nine cases of COVID-19 were observed, all in the placebo group, indicating vaccine efficacy of 100%"

"Vaccine safety has now been evaluated in more than 44,000 participants aged 16 years and older with more than 12,000 vaccinated participants having at least six months of follow-up after their second dose."

Vaccine continues to provide effective protection after 6 months.

RTE Headline later today "Vaccine provides protection for 6 months"
Pfizer really are the gift that keeps on giving.

I would love it if the next time Killeen, McConkey, Staines, etc. cite "the variants" in the media, they are shown this piece of evidence. It would be interesting watching them trying to discredit it with whataboutery and conjecture.

112k vaccine supplies arrived last night - Varadkar stated in the Dail moments ago.

Sadly the only outlets they appear on have presenters that are too spinless to ask questions like that and choose instead to worship at the altar of these clowns.

Tbf, WHO would also criticize the rollout if it was fast as it would have meant we were keeping vaccines for ourselves and not exporting them to other nations. It's best to just ignore them.

Yes, this is a weird statement as usually they're criticising countries for not sending all their vaccines abroad.

The EU and the governments within the EU should be all over any existing manufacturing and helping them scale up and get supplies wherever possible, they should not be passive in chasing down issues. Most very large ramp up will only really be in Q3, when the EU should be mostly done and then the focus will be the world.

So Kelly basically wants an update of numbers almost daily but also wants projections to be set in stone.

He was on the Staines, McConkey party bus a few weeks ago is he still on it?

Luke O'Neill was on with Pat Kenny this morning and talking about why is J&J one dose while the others were 2 doses even though very similar data after the first dose. Obviously he said this is what the manufacturers used in their trials and what authorisation they applied for but he wouldn't be surprised if they decide to change all to one dose.

Would make a huge difference in the third world, basically doubling supply. Even here, it could make sense to give only one dose to under 45s with no underlying conditions. I know the under longitivity of the vaccines but nothing is really known on that yet with either one or two doses.

Does that apply to all the vaccines? My understanding is that for Pfizer, antibodies drop to a huge extent after 42 days unless a second dose is given. One dose for low-risk people makes a lot of sense for AZ imo, though with a 12 week dosing interval and Q3 supplies meant to ramp up hugely, probably wouldn't make a practical difference for us.

It was just a throwaway response by Luke but I found it interesting all the same. 42 days sounds very short, I don't remember reading that anywhere but you could be right.

So, optics aside, the eventual delivery targets were met. Can anyone remember what all the revisions were? For some reason in my mind it was originally 1.4m, then revised to 1.2m, then 1.1m.

Any road, this bodes well for Q2. In spite of Astrazenca's sh1tshow, the political wrangling and the generally difficulty that is getting new vaccines out the door, the projected -v- actual came in pretty close.

Which means that the Q2 targets should hold steady, if not come in better than expected given that our supply estimates are pessimistic.

What’s the estimation of many people in Ireland are elderly or have underlying conditions? Last I heard that was 1.3 million. Are we really that close to getting through the vulnerable cohorts?

Don't be, the figure was always pie in the sky. I have been warning people on this thread since the Feb 23rd that those figures were nonsense. It is very disingenuous of Donnelly to be blaming the manufactures for the 'reduction'.

Don't expect supplies to increase by much until the week of the 19/4. Hopefully from that week onwards BioNtech will start shipping from their new factory.
