We don't have one designated thread for general athletics news, so time to start one! Any news, meets, results, livestreams etc. drop it in here! Thread can also serve as the Diamond League thread for when it resumes.

Here's to hoping we'll get to see some great results/races this year in these obviously crazy times. Hopefully we might even get an Olympics!

Obviously poor season opener from Mageean last night, but was maybe a bit out of sorts after Jerry Kiernan's passing? She posted on her Insta last night that his death "took more from her than anticipated", so hopefully it's just a temporary blip.

DAS was in fine form anyway, she'll be tough to beat should Tokyo go ahead.

Grest opening weekend, Nadia Power with a NR in the 800 clocking 2.02.44.
Ciara Neville with a PB of 7.30 in the 60m and Sarah Lavin also running a PB 8.24 in the 60m hurdles.

It's already been posted about Nadia Power's fine new NR in the 800m, but Ciara Neville opened in the same meet by running 7.31 and 7.30 in the 60, the latter equalled her PB.

Edited to add: beaten to it by Wottle. I should change my name to Arzhanov!

It was also a world u-20 record (by two seconds) by the winner, Keely Hodgkinson - definitely one to watch for global medals in the coming years.

It's amazing the level of performance there has been across the board during the pandemic, including some of the TTs by Irish athletes. World indoors could be really great! And an elite-only indoor nationals could be a great spectacle too with everyone in peak condition chasing times.

    European Indoors.

The World Indoors have been scrapped again.

Hopefully next few week will be interesting from and Irish point of view.
To add to the athletes already mentioned, Sean Tobin runs next weekend in Mets, I believe Robinson and Coscoran are in great shape as well and are due race soon.

It will be interesting to see who will attend this event.
I'd hazard a guess that anyone that is outside of the country training or racing at present may not come back for it, but I could be wrong on this.

Nice run from Sean Tobin in Metz France today.
Won the 3k in 7.49. Put in a great last 400m to pull away.
Looks to be more there in a faster race as well.
Anyway he couldn't do more than he did, took the win, it will be a confidence boost to him, Delighted for him

I thought he was gonna stay closer to robinson (he looked like he jogged around for the first 2k), 2 lads in great shape.

Yeah i though he might have been a bit closer in the early stages.
But its fine margins really, I think that was an indoor pb for him (could be wrong).

Edit, also inside euro qualifying time

Great running from Tobin today, that last 400m shows his strength

Great to see Davicia Patterson involved here. Texas ran three teams and she was in the A foursome. She recently transferred there from Iowa State and still classed as a Freshman so hopefully a good sign that she can be involved in the Big 12 and NCAA Championships.

She ran 5th in the individual 400 event. Rhasidat Adeleke (also at Texas) ran in the 60m.

Sean ran 7.51 which is 3 sec outside his pb. Looked tired running. Need to keep in mind he raced on Saturday as well.
Solid hit out and consolidates his training

Looks like Robinson finished 2nd might have left it a bit late putting on the burners

Very easy to be "hurlers on the ditch" but he did seem to sit back in the pack early on and got caught up when in bunch up. Finished strong and was out kicked

Looking at the race, I just thought he was a bit busy in the last 600 or so when he started trying to take closer order, going out to lane 2 a couple of times without moving up much, back into lane 1 at the bell and then having to move out again on the home straight.

He knows how to pace a race, think he just got caught up with the bodies on the track, more to come, no doubt. The standard at the top in the 1500m in Europe is tough though.
