Oddly enough apart from the plonkers I am finding a that people in general are very supportive , we have a renewed sense of community and people are helpful and kind to each other . We had to isolate recently and were finding little treats at our door and people leaving cakes and donuts !
We walk in the park a lot and ( apart from the above plonkers ) people are very good to step aside and greet each other .So many parents now out walking with kids and enjoy the outdoors The Tesco delivery man who waves and leaves my shopping and always finds a kind word and a wave .I hope it lasts and we dont get lost again and we learn to appreciate the finer things in life

What about the people that use the word 'plonkers'? When did that start happening here?

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

That is kind of my point. It has not got to do with weather - it has to do with Government health policy.

Government now finally being called out, the media have shown a constant bias towards the Irish public while the Government's terrible management of this has been ignored

Who's doing this calling out? Apart from the massive post-Christmas surge what else has been terrible?

After May Bank Holiday for hospitality imo

Household visits probably banned till then also

Frankly inhumane. So no social interaction for many for over 4 months?

They can have my full adherence until after Paddy's day. Beyond that I will be seeing friends, as my own personal choice about my life. I'm sure this will anger some of you but I highly doubt I'm alone in this.

I was shocked when that poster posted that as well. Not seeing any family or friends for 4 months would be completely unacceptable. Fair enough restricting household visits to one visiting another with a limit on numbers + appeal to the public to apply common sense and continue to limit their contacts..... but a blanket ban until May, nah not a hope that will happen.

Tomas Ryan on Claire Byrne last night. They are being put under pressure to put in proper quarantine measures If not we are doing this for nothing.

    Alot has been terrible.

Very slow to react to initial wave. Nursing home deaths.
Lack of PPE now in hospitals.
Level 5 for Laois, Offaly KIldare with very low cases.
    Ignoring NPHET's advice
Test, track and trace severe limitations.

Too slow making decisions in general. Mandatory quarantine will probably be the norm in all countries.

There's an awful lot of middle ground between what was permissible at Christmas and a complete ban on household visits!

December for a lot of people was a free for all, we saw that in the rise in close contacts.

Doesn't tie in with their constant push to open schools though. There seems to be a change in tone just this past week or so.

    Hi Qwertyminger,
Please know that you do not have to deal with this on your own.

There are lots of numbers available if you need someone to talk to Pieta House for example. Could you meet a friend for a walk perhaps, hate the phrase but form a bubble with a trusted friend?

Agree. Plus they are not levelling with people about what it means to get down to zero cases. It means level 5 plus enhanced restrictions for probably the next 6 months. It means powers will be needed to enforce it strictly. Then rolling or local lockdowns at short notice when there are cases. It means good bye to holidays this year or seeing kids return from home. It will also mean that a good chunk of our mobile workforce will probably leave for good.

We were down to a single digit 7 day average by late June last year. So just over 3 months of lockdown to get to that point. Currently we are slated to be at level 5 until March 5th, so just about the same amount of time.

This looks very like a reckoning you've been saving up for months! I doubt any government that wasn't implementing Zero COVID would have been terrible in your books.

    As for your examples
    - We didn't react as fast as others but did so decisively. Nursing homes were a huge problem everywhere and it was not helped by some homes not being up to the job.
    - You seem to have conveniently forgotten the huge PPE supply problems back in March.
    - LOKdown was more about where people lived.
-NPHET played politics in October and made some serious communication blunders so it was inevitable that the government would take the initiative back from them.
    - Sure the test and trace took quite a time but as the CMO persistently reminded people self-isolation trumped everything

Yes, I can't even go into work and the only people I know in Ireland outside of colleagues are my partner and our young kids. It would be an understatement to say it's taken a toll on my mental health.

I cannot hack county border restrictions beyond March. Both sets of parents live in different counties and one set too far for a day trip though I would stay in a hotel and visit from the garden if I could. My mother is missing everyone and incredibly jealous watching her brother and sister whose children just didn’t happen to have to leave like us to live in the commuter belt for jobs

Yes as Plumb said form a social bubble, go talk to someone outside, have a walk with them. For the past year one of my adult kids who already lives with his girlfriend also formed a social bubble with their best mate who lives alone and near them and they meet to play video games and chat and I ain't going to say a word against it. They are all really careful and visit no one else. People have to be real too. The best friend would be completely alone otherwise and that is unconscionable.

I really think we need somebody in power to come out and say something positive.

I just don't get the overwhelming negativity of recent days.

    COVID cases are being crushed.

    We have multiple vaccines

We are past mid-winter and the spring and summer looms

Hospital numbers are slowly now beginning to decline

We need to stop the drive of negativity and not lurch to extreme measures just when we are so close to getting out of this.

cant see how anyone was surprised at what happened after

I think it's a very human response. A lot of people do not have those who matter to them anywhere near. One would expect that to be a consideration when we get to March 5. If it doesn't, a lot more people will get close to cracking point. While we won't see what's going on in Holland it is evidence of the kind of stress people are increasingly under.

Not really , its just clear now what needs to happen especially with a new variant. The countries living successfully with this have followed a certain model. Its not about waiting for a certain model to win an argument etc. The public need something sustainable rather than rolling lockdowns. We tried the other approach and its failing currently

Would you like meehole and leaky leo to come out and say that we can have a meaningful St. Patricks Day?

We dont have enough. All this negative talk from EU governments and stricter border controls is to distract from the fact that they have messed up the vaccine order.

The US,Israel and the UK who we are constantly told dont give a dam about their citizens are making a show of the great EU.
