Looks like construction be closed going by what MM is saying in this interview.

If the same as March then only essential maintenance or construction stays open. That's not a blanket stop but it puts most sites offline. And it has to happen.

Hopefully it's more than just schools staying closed that are the new measures.

    excites you does it?

MM said they are not considering reducing to 2 km on the radio just now. Not for the moment anyway.
Perhaps they'll hang on till the end of the week, Varadkar suggested they are looking to see what this is doing. If we are at ONLY 1500 then it's all good, 9,000 and you can look outside your door!

After finding out yesterday evening that my appointment in hospital today was closed via social media, I rang the hospital's main reception (specialist's one was closed), who confirmed my appointment was cancelled.

Got a call this morning apologizing, my appointment is not cancelled, because of the complexity of my medical issues. They never intended to cancel "serious" appointments like mine, and apparently it was a poorly worded social media post. So I DO have an appointment today.

While I'm very annoyed at the worry I was left to feel, I'm relieved they are still seeing at least SOME people. I hope anyone else waiting for an outpatient appointment is seen shortly too, regular health care can't be abandoned due to covid-19

No, i'm sad but not that sad. I'd just like for us to get cases under control a lot quicker than they will be with half assed restrictions. As someone with parents in front line (ish) work (dad works in a hospital and mom in a school), i'd prefer they didn't get covid.

What are you on about? All I said was its good for everyone to take a break. Have done it myself a few times, much the better for it. Nothing patronising or condescending about saying whats worked in my experience, might not work for someone else but its called sharing an experience, nothing wrong with that.

People can make their own minds up about whatever they want to do, sharing an experience is perfectly acceptable here.

I did not just mean you. Its kind of sickening the pile ons. Unnecessary. The kind of people who in real life say "chill out" to anxious or upset people are not that groovy.

They need to disinfect the streets like they did in China early on. Let's try anything.

    Will the 2km come back?
Possibly, for two weeks or so.

The tone that's coming out of this interview is that they're looking at a version of lockdown 1 that's shorter and slightly less restrictive.

At this stage, for many it will make little difference. Click & collect services may be curtailed and shops forced to offer delivery or nothing.

The big difference this time is that reopening is a lot easier because we're already prepared for it.

In any case, they will do what NPHET advises.

that we can buy a lot of stuff that we don't need?

but our kids can't go to school

    so beyond wrongheaded

Nearer the end of February one would guess, there are a lot of them.

Yes doc, Very strange taking vitamins indeed. I should be out in pubs, what's wrong with me at all. Obviously better to go with what the majority thinks to keep ye guys on boards happy.

    #open the pubs

You've kept this going a very long time, but surely even you must be getting a bit fed up by now.

Kids shouldn't be back in school until teachers are vaccinated

I'm thankful I waited til I was calm before composing an angry email :pac:

Absolute shambles though, announce closures of entire department via social media, have general reception confirm the cancellation then have the specialist's secretary ring to say it's going ahead as scheduled. Ridiculous tbh, but at least it might provide hope for other posters I know are waiting for necessary treatments.

How does everyone think this will all play out? Further restrictions look inevitable but are we looking at a lockdown for January and February and see how numbers are then? I know that no one knows but just trying see where we’re going and what the plan is.

With the vaccine, is it fair to say that once the vulnerable are vaccinated it may be hard to keep the general public on board with lockdowns? A guy from the WHO was on the radio this morning. He said there is light at the end of the tunnel but life may not go back to what it used to be or words to that effect. What does that mean?

True, but when a guy like The Rock is considered dangerously obese using BMI, it's easy to discredit. It should be used with stuff like body fat percentage rather than as a catch all

Most people with a high BMI are nothing like him :D

Dropping from 5km to 2km won't achieve anything other than piss off the public. 5km is enough to keep people in their own locality.

Numbers on Grafton Street feels somewhere between March/April lockdown and October November.

Although that may be the weather its a good sign.

The source saying they want ''more medical specialists who are knowledgeable and have strong personalities'' is interesting. Thought they'd want the exact opposite tbh based on previous differences between NPHET and government.

Perhaps they are thinking of within NPHET.

I live near a main route into Dublin city and would say similar. Not as quiet as March/April but much quieter than October/November.

Definitely a lot less traffic this morning. I travel to work every morning on a usually very busy motorway. Not at March levels due to construction but way down on November.

Dundrum/Balllinteer *much* quieter today, I guess people were out getting the big shops in yesterday to see them through.
Went to do mine this morning, and popped into M+S, fresh food shelves were all barren. I guess Brexit related though...

Guess with non-essential shops closed wouldn't be too many places open there ether.

I've a high bmi but I don't consider myself obese. I'm nowhere on the level of the rock either.

I do have a few pounds to shed but not a massive amount.

    BMI 32
Body fat percentage is around 15

One of my friends does body fat %+BMI for a formula.

Personally I see BMI as, if your BMI is high you should ask the question. It doesn't mean the answer is yes.

Possibly but I don't see what could be done differently at this juncture and government's default policy remains easing in and out of restrictions until people are vaccinated.

But maybe there are scientists and medics who can see things that could be done differently.

Are private hospitals still operating as normal?
Last time they were also shut down but never used, hopefully this time that lesson has been learned, they should only be shut down if and when public hospitals are at capacity
