    Gym noob here.

First day back at my gym (outdoors) today and I'm already like bambi on ice. Starting back from scratch. It was a real eye opener to see what happens when you stop lifting heavy things for a long time.

First time I felt a sense of normality in a long time. May long it last.

Brand spanking new calisthenics Park opened in Tymon Park today.

Saw a few lads flinging themselves around like spider man on acid last night so went down there this morning with my resistance bands and a flask of coffee. 2 hours of endless banded exercises.

Sun coming up, blue skies, fresh coffee, music pumping, muscles pumping. Pretty sweet.

Whereabouts is that in tymon? Opposite the penny black end or templeogue or green hills? Thanks.

Greenhills, park in the car park on limekiln Road. Just off the car park are some blue pavilion buildings. The new park is tucked in behind that.

After having very little to do over lock down it will be nice to be spoiled for choice with MMA.the gym and nice weather for long cycles.

Oh, I thought everyone here was in Ireland! :(

Sorry. The weather this week (most of the month) is really getting to me.

I haven't done a tap with weights since the gyms closed in December. I dusted down the kettlebells here last week to do some work with them. I figure it will give me a sort of rolling start when the gym does open and hopefully ward off the doms.

Doing something similar as we get closer, will gladly tone down the HIIT sessions and utilise the bands a little more, and since its warmer I cna use on the balcony as there are posts there I can tether to.

Temperatures in between 10C to 15C are very nice for cycling, given that is not raining. It's not too cold and not too hot... but cycling sucks anyway :( Strava says I'm trending faster in both cycling and running, that's all I've been doing. I'm not surprised really because I've lost all the extra muscle on my upper body, so yeah, lighter = faster.

I joined an outdoor boot camp. There was no sign of my gym doing outdoor training so signed up to another outdoor group. Its been good. More cardio based that anything else but better than nothing.

I did next to nothing really since December... Few pill up & dip sessions which made me happy in so far I could do them.

Back to it for the summer. Get strength back and lose a bit of padding. Happy enough really with the year off from it accepting I missed it hugely.

    From my gym today:)

    Hi Sheep Shagger,

Phew, we made it! We're delighted to welcome you back to our club on June 7th. The clubs are looking really well and we've kept all our teams on throughout the pandemic, getting them more training so they're better placed than ever to support you. If you just can't wait, why not join one of our outdoor classes? All bookable on the FitSense app.

Fresh air, fitness and friends & perfect! We're also going to be continuing our live online classes after we open, offering you even more flexibility.

We are so grateful that you've stuck with us and we're all looking forward to helping you be fit and healthy for the rest of the year. We've extended your membership to cover the time we were closed and a team member will be in touch soon to confirm your new expiry date.

In recognition of your loyalty, you're invited to bring friendly faces with you to train. You have 5 days of guest membership to use before the end of June.

Just give us a call to book your buddy in, so we can make sure you both have plenty of space to work out.

    Contact Us Here

There's no getting away from the fact that it's been a crazy year or so. You might be itching to get back into the club or you might be thinking it'll take a little time to find your groove again. If you're in any way unsure, please reach out and lean on us during your return.

Our friendly teams are ready to help you, whatever you need support with. Our teams are on the phones at reception between 11am - 2:30pm weekdays for anything you want to ask or discuss.

You're probably sick of COVID related rules, but they are still important to ensure the clubs stay safe for everyone. So we would kindly ask you to read our updated COVID safety statement here.

We can't wait to see you back in the club!

    Kind regards,

will there be any limit to numbers on June 7th?

Yes, of course there will be limits....... most of the under 40s are as yet unvaccinated, unrestricted indoor gatherings are a non runner for another while.
It'll be a set-up similar to what was seen in December IMO.

Good, keep the groups from training together will keep the places open. As long as people listen and not turn up in bunches of 5 or 6 when they clearly know the "rules"

It will likely be the exact same as it was after the previous lockdowns until the latter end of the year

I imagine it's gonna be the same as before this lockdown until the next lockdown...
How's everyone feeling about going back? I can't wait! I pulled my new Nike metcons from under the bed couple days ago and started wearing them around the house to wear them in.
Last summer I was quite reluctant and didn't go back until a week later after they reopened. I found it demotivating to start from zero again.

nice memories of last summer, working from home, able to go to the gym at lunch.....more please!

I've worked all through the whole COVID thing, in my workplace, with the gym closed. Definitely looking forward to having it open again to break up the day a bit.

I've mentioned this before but I can't wait to finish the HIIT / Tabata stuff I've been doing everyday... it is just draining.

Role on bench, squats, deadlift, curls and all the joy they bring that doesn't involve something dreadful like single leg burpees or f*cking star jumps.....

Looking forward to the Doms. I'll be walking like John Wayne for a week after my 1st leg session.

Just realized that June 7th lands on Bank Holiday Monday. Might be worth keeping in mind for anyone planning ahead.

Gym I'm in isn't opening on the 7th due to some flooding that happened in there during the shut down, looks like 30th of June at earliest, can use one of the other branches but they are a bit out of the way for me, looks like I'll be looking for a new gym

You've waited nearly 6 months like the rest of us, surely you can wait another 3 weeks before joining a new gym.
