You don't think 2000 or 3000 cases a day is a problem? Our health service can't deal with that and also treat all the other non covid patients.

It would have helped if they had treated non covid patients all summer. The backlog is going to kill people, not covid.

No, most have a slight cough and slight disturbance in their taste.

We can’t close the country down every time 30 people go to ICU with respiratory issues.

Still no mention of all the stupid and selfish people flying in and out on their holidays with most of which ignoring the 14 day quarantine.

My aunty works in the airport and there are flights near capacity from Bucharest with unhygienic and coughing workers coming in to pick fruit or whatever. On top of that there are hoards of entitled and tanned Irish coming in tutting and giving out about having to fill out a form etc.

What happened to temperature checks of people coming in?

It'll be far more than 30 people in ICUs if we let it go that far and you know this yourself.

I'd love to know, from the people celebrating the new lockdown, how they are going to spend the next 6 weeks. I am already going insane now, trying to even motivate myself to go to the shops as often as I can in order to see a different scenario, with the winter fast approaching I will even struggle to go out in the garden for a bit of fresh air. And I consider myself lucky that my job is deemed essential by my employer and I will be able to go in at least a couple of days a week.

I was expecting this. A 4 week half arsed lockdown is pointless and only does damage.

I don't know why people are shocked at level 5 for 6 weeks.

Two weeks ago NPHET made that recommendation. On that day there were 364 cases. Yesterday there were 1284. That's an increase of more than 300% in 14 days. So I think it's clear we have to do something. In another few weeks if we do nothing we'd be seeing 2000 cases a day or more and then hospitals would be fcuked.

We’re not shocked we just know after the previous lockdowns what an utter waste of time and disproportion it all is...everything is mania mania mania about figures figures.

How are you affected by the latest restrictions in terms of income and career?

Too bad. Did they actually do anything at all to improve the health service? Anyone knows?
Like in Poland more equipment for the hospitals was bought etc etc

Will it though? ICU was never less than 4. So all those thousands of cases and still just 30 in ICU.

There is no “risk” anyhow so long as you’re careful. November sounds like a good time to get away from here

What had you been doing that you can’t do now?

I have to say that day to day I have not been doing very much different from the start of the first lockdown until now.

The only real difference being visiting family was almost stopped during the lockdown but from
July on was very regularly again.

Resistance and immunity are two totally different scenarios.

Not according to the medical definition of immunity, which is, a condition of being able to resist a particular disease especially through preventing development of a pathogenic microorganism or by counteracting the effects of its products

There are a growing number of cases worldwide where people have been re-infected. One as far as I recall in China I think twice.

This has been around for a year now, the estimated number of cases is north or 780M. And you can count number of confirmed reinfections on your fingers and toes.... it’s safe to say widespread reinfection isn’t a massive worry

You'll find most of our pro lockdown friends have nice safe jobs that they can do from home.

No worrying about paying the mortgage, rent or bills and no empathy for those in that situation.

And don't try to rise this issue. You'll just be accused of being a granny killer

Dunno Matt, did ya happen to see Mane’s goals at the weekend.

Not bad a fortnight after a positive test, the fcuker was unplayable

Yeah. And go to a Europe in lockdown.

Curfews, restrictions are being introduced across the continent with full lock downs being considered in some countries already.

We are just ahead of the curve slightly in our response - they are all going the same way.

No need for pointless doom mongering.

It will work out in the end

If we are lucky we may get back here in time for Christmas.

Tell that to all the people infected in the case highlighted this morning from someone travelling in, how many more cases like this are there.

Fcuking ridiculous. Retail and other sectors that aren’t even major sources of spread have to close but a bunch of lads can still play ball on a pitch while snotting and sweating all over each other. What an absolute farce this whole thing is. If they are serious about wanting the numbers down then surely a close contact sport where you are literally dripping with sweat should be called off??

Indeed ridiculous. If non-essential manufacturing and construction sites are allowed to remain open, it will become very clear that the govt is only listening to big business and throwing SMEs under the bus.

NPHET and DEPT of Ed “students aren’t at any increased risk of Covid in a school setting”. Can someone tell me how thousands of students all mingling together and then going back home aren’t at an increased risk yet everyone else has to work from home, retail has to close, hair salons have to close, and we can’t have people in our homes in order to minimise the spread? What a joke

Who gives a **** about christmas anyways, I certainly don’t. Wonder if cancer screening will be stopped again, i only just got the letter and I was due to go in May, meaning there is 5 months backlog already.

Our restrictions are far more severe than any where in Europe. I’d sooner be locked- down by the pool in the sunny canaries than listening to the mindless Bedwetting nonsense on loop here- any day of the week

56 cases in 1 week related to a travel cluster. Total cases in 7 days exceed 8000.

According to the HSPC only 2% of cases are related to travel.

Unfortunately COVID is prevalent in the community. Closing the borders is no longer an option.

Are the 56 who got it classed as community transmission or travel?

Yes it’s something these control freaks can’t quite get their heads around- most young people have checked out of Covid mind control farce months ago. No matter how hard the hypochondriacs try the less of a ****e is given. And fcukin rightly so

They really needed Mane to be rested a bit longer or maybe not be man of the match at least.

    Doesn’t really fit the narrative

And his test was only about 2 weeks ago

I had the flu and bad chest infection a few years ago. I lived. End of story

How many of them are in hospital? Or icu? I'd say the vast majority of them wouldn't have known they had it if they weren't a close contact......
