    Now with answers as promised.

As promised, here is my Christmas round from our Zoom quiz. Highest score was 6, so maybe it's not too easy. Got a few groans when I announced it but everyone said it lifted the spirits this bleak evening too.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
    1. How many inanimate objects feature in the song “The 12 days of Christmas”? 6 (5 gold rings and the pear tree)
    2. What is the most popular christmas dinner in Japan? KFC...Kentucky for Christmas ad campaign in 1974 really worked!
    3. Which of Santa’s reindeer is named after another animal? Vixen
    4. In what year of the 20th century did Christmas Day become a public holiday in Scotland? 1958
    5. In which modern-Day Country was St. Nicolas Born? Turkey (this really surprised me!)
    6. The song “White Christmas” was written for what film? Holiday Inn
    7. Who sang “Walking in The Air” in the 1982 film version of “The Snowman”? Peter Auty (his voice broke before they recorded the single)
    8. The French word “Noel” is often used around Christmas, but what was its original meaning in Latin?? Birth
    9. The Cop and the Taxi Driver in “It’s a Wonderful Life” share their names with which Sesame Street characters? Bert & Ernie
    10. Where does the christmas tree for trafalgar square come from? Oslo, in thanks for WW2 Assistance

I had so much fun researching not so simple Christmas questions. I also had a round on puppets, mostly to do with TV shows. So self indulgent :D

I predict the shops are going to busy now with people bumping into one another in them!

The wife got her first bottle of gluhwein last night in Centra. Not bad for 6 euro, a minute or two in the microwave and a wedge of orange. It didn't last the night!
      Fair play !
I haven't seen it in my local supermarkets yet, hopefully it will arrive soon.
Sometimes I mix it 50-50 with apple juice and it is delish, too.

Thanks Elves we are all in the same boat one way or another
It’s the little things isn’t it.... you just have to be kind to yourself
I just had a phone call with a pal and she’s made me laugh
The gorgeous autumn sun is shining where I am today so I will be certainly getting out in it for a walk

Awh guys I'm the same. All along I've said the only thing I want is to be able to see my family, they live 10 minutes from me and none of them are out for work or socialising, same as myself and my husband, so very, very low risk of anything happening but now that's been taken away.
It's so frustrating that I can meet them outside a pub or restaurant but not in their garden, which is an acre so plenty of space for us to be safe.
It's just all about money, and while I get that to an extent, it's still tough.

One of my little boy's presents arrived today...I'm very tempted to give it to him :D

I bought the first of my Christmas presents now on Amazon during their prime event. It's good to get started, I think I'll aim to have it done by mid November. I'd rather have everything in.

My work is giving everyone a One4All voucher for Christmas, I'll probably use that to do the food/drink shopping.

      You are doing great!

Out here so little contact with it all in body, but in heart! It is in the whole world and denying that makes it worse.

My cats stop me sinking! Six comedians... Many years ago my dr said he was going to advise all his patients to get a cat as mine was doing me so much good.

But it is hard going. The new post lady today had parcels for me ( nothing Christmassy!) and she was wearing a large mask. I see no one usually and thought how your world is out there..

Was thinking re Christmas goodies but ESB got me!

Am I correct in saying I can visit a relative in my own county now and have a chat with them on the road outside their house?
Not that I plan on doing it.

Once it is outside the garden I presume Yes?

You can let a plumber, painter or tradesman into your house too
Plus a mobile hairdresser if you are in Level 3

      That’s what I thought to.
From what I can see people are going to be meeting people everywhere and anywhere now.
People who’d have being very good seem not that interested now.
Sorry for talking about this stuff here.

No problem Freshpopcorn we are all the same one way or another regarding all of this

If I don't laugh I will cry, get this week away from me

Random Youtube video thrown up by the algo today

1973 TV show talking to English women about their childhood Christmas - 1903!

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0_U1mvZbBU

In colour and in decent condition; this kind of daytime TV rarely survived as it was often live or recorded on reused video tape; its normally things recorded on film that survived.

I've a feeling that we might get more compliance with the new restrictions now because people really want to try to save Christmas.

      I hope so anyway.

I think the miscommunication around the living with covid levels has actually worsened the situation. The messing about of level 3 with added bits just compounds that terribly. Compliance with restrictions was on the wane anyway with peak compliance long gone, as soon as the opening up started back in June that dropped of considerably & clearly has been dropping ever since, either through covid fatigue or sheer bloody mindedness. Any further restrictions will IMO see diminishing returns in terms of numbers complying, there's simply been so much poor communication & explanation of the logic behind the decisions that many that had been with them up to this point have simply lost faith & given up.

I actually cried last night over the new guidelines, I was feeling so low and frustrated. With cocooning I've been doing garden visits since July, and before that it was window visits. I'm doing better today, but can't understand the logic of why garden visits aren't allowed.
My lovely, lovely friend was in Penneys earlier today and she did a video call where she got me to pick whatever I wanted, she then dropped them off to me on her way home and I transferred the money to her. I'm just so delighted, new Christmas PJs :D

She's an absolute star :) it was only a little haul from Penneys as I didn't want to be a nuisance, but it was a huge novelty for me. Last time I was in Penneys would have been around the start of March :o

It's a really lovely day here, I'm hoping it stays like this for the weekend so can go for walks with himself, pretend to be all romantic :pac:

You’d actually get away with wearing that anytime of the year.

Ah Eskie I feel your pain. I was in terrible mood last week with the flip flopping from level 5 to level 3 and the social media uproar.

I’ve come off Facebook which has MASSIVELY changed
My mood. And I’ve decided if I do end up in lockdown between now and Christmas I will tinsel every inch of this house.

      Yeah

Its not too exotic either, a guy wearing a shirt of a semi naked wrestler would look fairly odd ha

I'm glad a few of you are feeling more positive (for want of a better word!) at the moment. :)

I flip flop from mood to mood, the uncertainty is awful and yearning for normality is sad.

Even when I visited the BT Christmas shop, I felt a tinge of sadness that I was masked and sanitised, whereas this time last year everything was normal. :(

Holidays this year were a write off, but at least we can plan for a not normal Christmas, and start planning work arounds and different activities. A nice walk on a winter's evening, admiring people's trees can be done under any circumstances.

For my week off one of the mornings (weather permitting of course) I’m planning on going to Portmarnock beach to watch the sunrise and then go for a walk.

Also planning on going on a hike. Essentially I’m planning on getting out as much as I can that week haha.
