Tipperary are '4/1 on' to win tonight (almost the same price as Dublin are to beat Mayo). Is that because Tippled are reigning AI champions at this grade and have a game under their belts.

Saying that. Waterford are a very very good side. And if Fagans had got that goal chance ...who knows. Momentum is what Waterford thrive on.

I ll have to pull you up on that one. I watched it back twice. No free was due to Barron. He ran straight into a brick wall ,head first into Flanagan who didn't move into his path in any way. Normally refs incorrectly give frees for players running jnto other players. Horgan got that one right.
You might be right about other ones and the hurley into Austins Gonads should have been a yellow because it was careless . Overall Waterford aren't at the same level as Limerick and thats ok but dont be saying you guys should have had way more frees. You got plenty of them and ye need to get stronger and harder. In the second half a few of your guys went missing..thats a fact. Where was Lyons wing back when the going was heavy...same as Fagan.

Bitter much? Lyons was running his arse off and was late on pushing forward taking shots on goal from wing back trying to get us back into it. No one saying Limerick weren't the better team but every Waterford player to a man emptied themselves on Sunday to suggest ' a few went missing' says more about you than it does them.

One thing about Cahill is he won't be afraid to make changes and has an idea already about how we have too improve our physicality

Coming into his 2nd year (he has an option of a 3rd). Lets hope Sheedy takes his time leaving Tipperary with Cahill a shoe in too replace him

Good positive response PTH. Let’s park all this crap about the referee and put our trust in Cahill.

Interesting observations - I spoke to a lad today who played intercounty for many years and would have been as tough as they come, and not a bit shy about making or taking frontal challenges. - he reckoned challenge on Barron was a free all day because Morrissey raised both arms and thus his hurley into Barrons face - he admitted not in a dirty way but as a natural reaction but a free nonetheless under the rules.

I am not saying for one minute that Limerick are in anyway dirty, but like most really good sides they play on the limit, and it is up to the referee to stamp authority.

Hannon's taking out of Hutchinson was cynical and a card all day long - Morrissey free was a bit more than careless as was Hegarty's , anytime you jab a hurley into someones midriff, is asking for trouble. Simple fact is when lads are on yellows they have to think twice before committing their next challenge or foul, and as we all know that can make a big difference. especially in physical games.

I agree wholeheartedly that we do need to toughen up, we are about three years behind Limerick in their S&C and development as a team, and some of our younger lads did go missing, but that happens when you hope is sapped from you.

I believe the loss of De Burca at a time when we were still well in the game would have been a massive blow to the confidence of some of the youngsters especially, and this drains the energy.

At the end of the day, I was quite happy with our performance considering all that went on:

    - we faced the best team in the country in terms of experience , belief and ability,
    - the relative inexperience of our side overall, and where we come from 12 months ago.
    - the loss of DeBurca so early in the game,
    - the couple of missed goal chances
    - the fact that we did chase goals right up to the end, giving up handy points
    - finally two crazy decisions by Horgan, one being the miss on Aussie and
the second penalising Calum Lyons on the rebound off the save by Socks, these two decisions cost us three points in score difference (in case anyone wondering in the Aussie incident we should have a nailed on point from a free, that ended up leading straight to a point at the other end)

No - Horgan's refereeing did not cost us the game by any stretch of the imagination but his performance certainly did contribute to the winning margin.

Thats a fair post. Id agree with most of it. But your doing what you basically say Waterford shouldn't do and thats blame the ref for not being more severe on Limerick. Horgan had a good game but missed a few frees ,thats hurling, its a fast game. Hurling has lost the shoulder charge almost completely and for me it needs to retain all its physical attributes. You need to be able to dominate physically in field sports or else its just hockey
Burca was a huge loss. He's almost Limerick in how his demeanour and aggression is..Youd think he had Limerick blood in his veins. Huge loss cos he gives belief to those around him. Fagans miss was the most significant one..huge chance, he should have hit the target. In saying that Kyle Hayes should have scored his chance.
Your first point about Barrons 'free' . Well if we take your logic...a player should either move out of the way of a player running straight at him or let the player run straight into him ...but don't raise your arms to protect yourself. So any player can run straight into another player if his hurley is up around his chest and its a free..Dont think so . That inter County hurler you were talking to must have been Paul Flynn or some other corner forward.

Maybe we are talking about different incidents. It was Flanagan in the first minute who Barron ran into mot Morrissey.

    3 wides and missed penalty!!

Awful since about the 15 minute on. Again as with the minors foostering and fumbling and really poor decision making killing them. Tipp goal came from 2 waterford players unable to control the ball between them.
I wonder sometimes do under age teams in waterford do ANY drills in the basics of the game

Some good stuff mixed with some not so very good hurling. You would wonder what preparation either team has done?

The lads are knackered. Fitzgerald going off will be a big loss.

That lad Kiely is some player.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,544 ✭✭✭Stacksofwacks

Pity cos I thought we looked the better team for much of that game, team looked tired towards the end ET will be a big ask now

    ****e, this was coming sadly

At least we gave a good account of ourselves in normal time and a few of the Waterford team look the real deal

  • Registered Users Posts: 280 ✭✭spideyman92

Game over now. Looked a different team after Power, Fitzgerald & Daly went off. Disappointing we missed that last chance to go a point up before full time.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,544 ✭✭✭Stacksofwacks

turning into a hammering now, didn't deserve this
