Mod: Below standard post and responses deleted.

We sat again for an hour and a half discussing maps and figures and always getting back to that most damnable creation of the perverted ingenuity of man - the County of Tyrone.

Possibility of another round of cheques being sent out to American citizens as part of the next stimulus package.

Up to 2000 dollars per individual. Total package could be around 3 trillion dollars. Previously 2 trillion dollars has been sent out to businesses and individuals.

EU yet to hand over 1 cent.

Why would the Eu be handing over money?
Btw the us deficit increased by 3 trillion.

    Stimulus package.

Cant come to agreement as to whether there will be loans or a basic giveaway.

    EU =European central bank

The deficit the deficit. Us deficit is irrelevant

The EU aren't responsible for that. So far people in need of assistance in ireland, they have received personally around €5,500 since the beginning of the pandemic. Which is a bigger number than €2000 incase you haven't realised.

Is it not up to individual countries to provide stimulus?
What do you mean the deficit is irrelevant?
3 trillion is an unbelievable number.

This is in addition to unemployment payments. These are stimulus payments. Australia and Hongkong are among others who have made such payments previously.

Irish payments are taxable income supports.

EU cannot agree on a stimulus and have paid out nothing.

There is a meeting going on right now in Brussels. Previous negotiations have dragged on weeks . The EU is divided.

    The Us deficit is irrelevant

The deficit the deficit. Us deficit is irrelevant

How is the US deficit irrelevant in a thread about Trump and the US? Trump is doing what Trump always does, take something he inherits and destroys it.

Us deficit to gdp is 105%
Japanese deficit to gdp is 253%
Greek deficit to gdp is 186%

Us bailouts aren't an exclusively Trump owned plan . Democrats proposed even larger numbers.
    Economic stimulus is vital.
EU hasn't released any money. Countries cant agree. Not even 1 cent

Do you know what a question mark means?
    Why is it irrelevant?
Why would the Eu give out stimulus packages?

It seems pretty reasonable that the EU is debating the logistics of such a plan. But overall the EU is technically in a more stable position than the US. Cases in the EU have stabilised meanwhile the US is in the throngs of wave one still.

It's also been pointed out that the stimulus packages in the US tend to just about tide the average person over. The supports for the average unemployed are incomparable to that of EU countries.

EU is governed completely differently to the US, to make equivalency is just utterly wrong

In 2009-10 the Tea party marched across America claiming government spending was too high and debt was out of control at $11 trillion.

Those same people voted for Trump in 2016 and not peep out of them while Trump vastly exceeds Obamas spending and national debt is more than doubled to almost $27 trillion.

Even of you think debt is irrelevant you cannot deny it shows that many Republicans and Trump supporters are hypocrites.

How is it irrelevant ? Donald trump said when running for president that he’d eliminate the deficit which he wasn’t doing before COVID-19 he was in in fact increasing it bigly and the supposedly fiscally conservative GOP didn’t care. So no it’s not irrelevant at all.

Why would the Eu give out stimulus packages?

To stimulate the EU wide economy. They cant agree on whether the figure will be in the form of loans or a handout.

This has been going on weeks with no agreement. MM is over there right now. It's all over the news.

    Japan isn't in the Eu

So what does any of that have to do with the thread?

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,758 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

This may be a blessing but congressman John Lewis died on Friday and Donald trump has not said a thing about him. Now maybe his administration understand that it’s better for him to say nothing as every time there’s been a death of a member of Congress he makes it about him in some way and looks stupid.

    It's a comparative example.

Sent condolences last night on twitter but it looked like somebody else wrote it.
    It's a comparative example.

It's a pretty bad comparison, there's doesn't involve multiple countries debating the best approach based. Many of them having differing economic views. Also do you think the US or EU countries are in a more stable in relation to the actual virus?

    The Us deficit is irrelevant

This is a thread about the Trump Presidency.

    In that context,

    a) the US deficit is hugely relevant
    b) EU and Ireland matters, not connected in any way shape or form to the US, are hugely irrelevant.

    Iv said this already.

Is there any chance you can comment on Trumps promise to eliminate US national debt in 8 years but instead he has massively increased it? It's almost like one of his many failed business ventures.

I started off by posting about the latest stimulus package planned by President Trump. I made a comparison to the Eu handling and lack of stimulus package.

I was attacked from all sides.

    Japan isn't in the Eu

    Really?
    Thanks for the scoop.

Why would the Eu give stimulus packages to individuals?

Yes. There is a pandemic going on. Us in deep trouble. Money must be thrown at businesses to stop another recession. A recession that would likely spread globally.

As the phrase goes. When the Us sneezes the rest of the world catches a cold.

Is that what any of us want?

You're contradicted because you made an absolute false equivalency. Saying the US, Japan, and EU are govenerned identically with the same responsibilities is just wrong

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,748 ✭✭✭ExMachina1000

Why would the Eu give stimulus packages to individuals?

The EU give the money to nations who then distribute it to citizens and businesses.

Not a cent so far. Us has 2 trillion given out with at least another 3 to come.

There is a meeting going on in Brussels right now.

He did make a comment very late in the day, but in true Trump style couldn't even manage to get it right.

"Saddened to hear the news of civil rights hero John Lewis passing. Melania and I send our prayers to he and his family."
