A Spanish Arch sculpture representing Christopher Columbus’ visit to Galway in the 1400s has been vandalized.

It was vandalised a number of times in 1993 and 1994 with slogans accusing Columbus of genocide daubed on it. So this isn't a new phenonemon.

RAF come to our aid every time a Russian Bear aircraft enters our air space, it's an agreement between the UK and Ireland that they chase them away for safety because they turn off their transponders

Thats a lot different to coming to our aid during a war as suggested by the original poster.

And you speak for everyone else do you Galwayguy? LOL. You speak for no one bar yourself pal.

You’ll get likes here alright, but this place ain’t reflective of the real world either. Seems to be over run with those who hate anything that isn’t overly conservative or is progressive.

Monuments and statues get moved and relocated all the time for all sorts of reasons btw, you don’t need to get angry about it

Well I'm born and bred in this county PAL and I'd bet the house most people would be on my side of the fence rather than yours.

This site is actually more reflective of the real world and the majority in this country, its followers of rags like The Irish Times and The Journal that live in their own bubble.

Like you complaining about people suggesting that removing or relocating contentious monuments or statues should be debated eh Rodney

in 1993 it was some hippie who got stoned and forgot he did it.
Today is some seriously fkd up man child with rich daddy issues.
    give me the hippy anyday

The monument was presented to Galway by the City of Geneo which was his birthplace

Stick it in the museum all the same. Doesn't need to be out on display out in the open at the Spanish Arch.

Chillax there TC. We don’t want you losing it again.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,327 ✭✭✭TheCitizen

    Correct, TC.

Except I wouldn’t bother to vote for something in an online poll repeatedly so I could then complain about the result as you ridiculously suggested, RB

Your history of resorting to personal abuse in this thread suggests otherwise.

You mean like this - your post below that I responded to.

They chase them away do they? Any link to anything to back up these heroic adventures in the skies over Ireland?

Did I? I don’t recall. You’re obsessed with anything I say and with trying to get me thrown off the thread or get the thread shut down though, so you could be right there (for a change) LOL.

Tell me, as honestly as you can, why does it bother you so much that people would suggest that there should be a debate about certain monuments or statues being removed or relocated?

They’re not coming to our aid as was earlier suggested. They’re protecting their own interests. Did you really need that spelled out to you.

What is it with the pathetic craw thumping for the UK and US around here? Grow up.

You got to understand the radical left.
They appear reasonable at first, ah shure etc etc a slave owner etc.

If they dont get there way violence.
Then people cower and back down more, ah shure Daniel o conell hes to go.

When i was much younger i went to london, i was amazed by the beautiful statues, i did my research in books wow! and educated myself on them seen some were terrible some great. at an early age it thought me to despise racism etc. i never felt the need to take down a statue. i learned from them.

this is now more like china culture revolution, (one of the main reasons they want Taiwan, they never destroyed chinese culture temples etc intact) or nazi germany, its a very dangerous time with frothing mobs being bayed on by left-wing media.
fun fact how many senior up in rte were in the communist socialist party in the 60s 70s hmmm

Daniel O'Connell was an outspoken opponent of slavery.

I assume your final sentence is a mangled reference to the Workers' Party's influence in RTÉ in the 1980s. The leading figure involved is presently a right-wing columnist for the Sunday Independent.

It can't stay where it is now. Social Justice Warriors with paint cans, hammers, whatever will see to that.

I did not attend, as it was outside my five kilometre limit.
