In fairness, Dire Straits became one of the biggest bands on the planet after Brothers In Arms, but quickly went out of fashion and completely uncool.

Has to be Dire Straits, love GNR too but Dire Straits are just that little bit better, and Live you can't fault them...

I'd prefer to see Prince and Blondie both go through over G'n'R or Dire Straits. But in terms of influence and musicianship I'll have to opt for Prince (also partly because Blondie's best hits were split between 70's and 80's, whereas Prince is more quintessentially 80's.)

In the other match I'll go for Dire Straits over G'n'R; not a huge fan of either but I like the song Brothers In Arms more than any G'n'R song I can think of.

Dire Straits, a softer sound than g'n'r. They're sound is great and it's like they're not even trying. Less image conscious, less gimmicky and very 80s.

Like Guns and Roses but Slash annoys me.
