Can everyone pay attention to the mod warnings set out below. In particular please remain civil to each other

    Thread I

    Thread II

    Thread III

    Thread IV

    Thread V

    Thread VI

    Thread VII

    Thread VIII

    Thread IX

    Thread X

    Thread XI

    Thread XII

    Thread XIII

    Thread XIV

    Thread XV

Mod warnings – I have condensed these given the size the OP has become, and some of the earlier warnings are now out of date
    1. Please interact in a civil manner
    2. Do not tell others what to do, or what to post
    3. It is against site rules to seek or offer any medical advice. Please do not post here about your symptoms asking what to do. Contact your doctor by telephone and they can advise you as appropriate
    4. If you have a problem with a post report it and leave the modding to the mods
    In terms of thread content:
    • Treat everything you read here with caution. Anything posted is from an anonymous internet poster. You cannot assume anyone has any "specialist" knowledge whatever they claim
    • Statistics are important to some (and I personally pay a lot of attention to them), but they are of very little use to anyone who is already caught up in this, or indeed knows of people who are caught up
    • Whatever your own views are please recognise others are entitled to different views., Even if at different extremes please do not try and repeatedly ram your views down the throats of those who have differing views
    • Cut out any cover-up/conspiracy stuff. If you have a reliable source quote it (not just their words but provide a link to a reliable source) - otherwise your claims carry little if any weight. If you wish to discuss conspiracy theories we have a dedicated forum for that and it’s not this one
    • If the likes of the HSE have a verified Twitter account we can assume what they post is accurate. Randomers on here or elsewhere cannot be considered "official" or "reliable" sources
    • If people wish to flout the restriction rules that is up to them. They cannot complain at the consequences, be that direct action from the authorities, exposure in Social Media (not here) or being shunned by locals, friends, family etc. If they post about it here, or encourage others to flout the rules, trying to appear macho, or thinking they are above the rules or simply being a smart arse, posting privileges will be removed
    • If you don't want to see discussion about Trump perhaps stay clear of this thread between the hours of 22:00 and 01:00. This is a thread for "breaking news" so please do not expect posters to discuss things happening "now" in other threads. It's not discouraged but equally posters expect to discuss such issues in this thread (added 14/04/20)
    And now a maths lesson:
“Average” is a non-defined term. “Mean” and “Median” are both mathematically defined terms.
Mean = the sum of a series of numbers divided by the number of items in the series
    Hence the Mean of 1, 2, 3, 3, 4, 7, 8 = (1+2+3+3+4+7+8)/7 = 4
Median is the midpoint number. In the above example it’s the 4th number in the sequence of 7 numbers – in this case 3
Both numbers are examples of “averages”. Not every average is the “Mean”, not every average is the “Median”, but every “Mean” and every “Median” number is an average

All threadbans carry over, but we will reconsider if anyone wishes to discuss it further via PM

    Oh, no, not I
    I will survive
Oh, as long as I know how to love I know I'll stay alive
I've got all my life to live

Trump is concerned about Cuomo because Biden has a sexual assault allegation to deal with. All his opponents for the nomination have pulled out so at this late stage if Biden has to withdraw there would be a huge push for Cuomo to be the nominee.

Trump now has Cuomo praising his response to the current crisis. It makes you wonder who is playing who.

Is Cuomo just planning on getting in to the race ? Maybe he is confident that, once he is in the race, he can also say that he acted in unity on a national crisis. Non-Partisan ,if you like. That would help neutralise his praise for the(Trump) national response. U.S.A. right or wrong.

Then a straight election shoot-out with Trump ,that Cuomo believes he can win?

Trump will be 74 in June, Bill Clinton 74 in August!

Trump is older than Clinton, yet it's really hard to imagine Clinton being still fit for presidency. Coincidentally George W Bush is 74 in July. Birth between the two. 1946 a great year for producing US presidents.

If Obama was running against Trump he'd walk it. There seems to be a crazy dearth of political talent in the 330 million population US.

And it'd be a landslide victory for Cuomo. Trump can beat Biden but he won't beat Cuomo if that were to happen.

Yes Biden would have to withdraw. There is trouble brewing with the #metoo brigade who are connected to the Democrats. The woman who made the sexual assault allegation was a staffer and is a Democrat.

No, he said they "were" scum, past-tense. He was referring to the leadership of the FBI when he took over. He fired its director (James Comey) 3-4 months after his inauguration. Understandably, the guy was/is a scumbag.

Don't personally like Biden or his past policy positions.

That he has a 'touchy feely' reputation is substantiated by a number of women but nothing overtly sexual was claimed.

This one appears to be a flake and has changed her story three or more times about the alleged incident which she claims occurred in 1993.

^But that won't stop the DNC if they want to parachute in Cuomo.^

I'm not sure how it works itself out.

There are accusations at the moment. What caught my ear last night was Trump and Cuomo "seemingly" being on the same page.

They are not bosom buddies. I just wonder if Trump has been set a trap that his ego could not refuse/see.

Interesting how Trump's office is astroturfing tens of thousands and winning him votes in the process. He is behind the protests and his office directly involved in setting up the websites and groups to promote them.

Govt facilitating Covid19 shift from Dublin to rural areas
There has been an outbreak of the coronavirus at a Cahirciveen hotel used to house more than 100 asylum seekers.

It is understood that the 56 bedrooms are being shared by around 100 residents.
The Dept of Justice has said the decision to transfer residents of Dublin hotels to the Skellig Star last month was part of its emergency response to Covid-19.

Aren't the private hospitals meant to be operating under the national public scheme at moment. I would have thought centralizing all covid patients to one area/hospital a good idea for infection control. So why is their one covid patient in the bons private in cork at the moment when their are free icu beds in Cork university hospital? Anyone any ideas?

We've probably got used to this arrangement but that doesn't mean we're not itching to get out from under it. We still need to be lectured every day about the dangers of being out but the idea of passing a peak without a dreaded surge is a comfort given where we might have been in the alarming days of early March.

That's a healthy attitude. I know of a number of people who not only "sneak out" but also get their dose of news at least 3 times a day. I'd imagine that is the norm.

On morning Ireland just now doctor Jack Lambert said that some GP’s are testing privately, not part of the official figures. He said that there are clusters in inner city Dublin and among the Roma and homeless communities! I certainly haven’t seen this reported anywhere, makes me seriously doubt the figures we’re being given. Looks like these people are not being isolated when diagnosed and are not included in the figures published.

Not sure how a GP could test privately to be honest. They dont have the equipment to take the swab or the labs to send them to unless they go through the HSE.
