I think Buncranna is still above 500.

    You're right - it's 536.5. I'll edit the original post.

Considering there is only 20 miles between the two places it's not really surprising.

And there is only 15 miles between Listowel and Tralee so why the disparity there?

When they say Listowel I assume they mean the Listowel electoral area which is an area of around 550 square km not just the town of Listowel.

The county average falls slightly, and just below the national one:

    I have no idea.

I'm surprised you don't know yourself, you, who has enough insider knowledge on this whole pandemic to declare that our government allowed pubs to open in September so they, the pubs, could be blamed for the spread of the virus.

Numbers are on the rise nationally: we see groups of hundreds are gathering in Dublin...7 day cases are increasing.... this is not acceptable and could lead to an extended lockdown

I think a lot of people who didn't give a toss in the past, give even less of a toss now. It's the New World Order out to control them, and they're having none of that.

I saw there was a bit of a ruckus on a train in Connaught when some fella refused to wear a mask, and the train got held up because of it. The guards were called, and by the time they got to the railway station the train had left, and the anti-mask warrior was standing on the platform, having been somehow ejected. :D

Don't know how true it is but what I have read online is that it's an outbreak in the hospital itself

There seems to be a breakout there alright. There was a story about 6 prison officers testing positive.

The RTE interactive map is showing 19 cases in Kerry.

Having said that it shows 19 for every county.

    And what about in Vietnam?

    Was it n-n-n-n-nineteen?

    LEA Rates:

    Listowel 107 (-9) 373.2 per 100,000
    Corca Dhuibhne <5 cases (N/A) N/A
    Tralee 24 (-3) 72.6 per 100,000
    Killarney 25 (-6) 84.4 per 100,000
    Castleisland 8 (-5) 46.7 per 100,000
    Kenmare 15 (-3) 59.9 per 100,000

So, apart from Listowel, the rest of the county seems under control.

The "about us" page doesn't seem to tie up with reality.

The site will probably be gone in a flash.

And yet it was still allowed to go on.
One wonders how many nursing homes there are like this around the country ?

I think this is going to be the major scandal when we get to the other side of this pandemic.

Going back to March when the HSE ordered people in hospitals (some of whom had the virus) to be moved to nursing homes to make space in hospital wards for the thousands of covid patients (which of course never transpired).

I see that HIQA visited Oaklands NH 7 times this year and had serious concerns going back 5 months ago. Well why wasn't something done 5 months ago besides waiting until the inevitable happened in October and now 5 residents have died (a building site can be immediately shut down if there are serious issues for example). So this goes beyond how a poorly managed nursing home ended up like this. The state have a lot of question to answer on this case alone.

And when nursing homes that were actually being run properly were crying out for the likes of care assistants they couldn't get it cos people were being paid €350 to sit on their ar$e at home. Again something that will be glossed over.

But of course its easier for Joe Public to get angry at the students, the drinkers in the City centre, the GAA, Clifden, the Races, the crowds in Killarney. The powers that be must be absolutely delighted at that.

It's plain to me, from dealing with the accounts of nursing homes over the years, that the people owning these "businesses" see them as goldmines. They want to rake as much money in that they can possibly get, and spend as little of that money in the running of the homes. I've never met any "saints" owning these places, and money is key. They have the running of these places down to a fine art, with just enough qualified nursing staff to keep the place ticking over at minimal cost. Of course, when there's a pandemic, and rules and guidelines, minimal anything doesn't work.

I think a lot of people will lose access to their goldmines because of their not wanting to spend any additional monies to protect the people in their care.

I also think that there will be countless civil cases, and possibly criminal cases, going through the courts in the coming months, nationwide.

The simple reason why the HSE etc do nothing in these cases until they cannot ignore anymore is that if they close down a place then they are the one's that own the problem - including in this case finding accommodation for around 50 residents that could mean putting them back into hospital beds that then eats into the capacity for elective procedures in local hospitals which is the most politically sensitive area for the HSE administrators.

The 14-day average falls again, and the case numbers are around 5 again, so hopefully the Oaklands outbreak is under control now:

The Greed of the Nursing homes is something else. 130 euro for " social entertainment" with no accountability of exactly what the entertainment is. ...Its the bloody telly on fulll volume with all these poor old folks in a room for the most of the time.
Oh, we have upped the fee now to 150 from Jan 2020. Lockdown, no one going in to provide entertainment, yet still grab the 150 a month on the invoice going out. Do these owners think we are mugs? It was waiting to happen, the greed, the rubbing of hands with each new "client". Shut them all down I say, let these owners stand on the platform and wave goodbye to the gravy train.
