    The French are barely observing the "lockdown". They're out in droves in Paris, milling around everyday, 100's of them packed in to little market streets. All very militantly French and very stupid.

    The number of confirmed infections is important if the criteria for testing is robust. It doesn’t matter if everyone who has it gets tested as long as the way we select for test is consistent

    If someone is driving between their two residences and not interacting with any other households and obeying social distancing measures what is the problem in someone going to their holiday home. I would consider it if I had the option

    The way it works is I get tested today. This is included in the figure for tests completed today.

    The day the result comes back (say April 14) if positive it will be included in the new cases figure on that day.

    The daily new cases figure is quite simply the number of positive lab results received on that date and could be from tests completed any day in approximately previous 14 days.

    All along each day you had more tests being completed than results coming through.

    Now each day you have more results coming through than tests completed as the backlog is cleared by the German lab.

    Tests mean nothing without the results.

    The very optimistic modeling for Ireland reported this morning may be based on the results so far. The results we have to date are suspect because of lack of reagents and waiting for the German results etc.

    Until things are up to date with testing here it's hard to judge where exactly we are on the infection curve.

    But I live in hope that we are at least approaching the peak.

    Also including them in our stats screws it up. As would not including them. Too much variation in whether to only count hospital deaths to make them comparable

    I understand that they need to do all that but they should be realistic about what they are doing and particularly what they are saying. They were talking about 5000 tests per day only a week ago, they mentioned 10000 even 15000 per day also. This week its been all about 4500 but in reality their labs are doing less than 1000 per day, I may be incorrect on those numbers but they are from HSE and RTE reports.

    They should come clean and say OK we are having problems here and this is what we are able to do be that 700 a day or 1500 a day but just tell the truth.
    When they are making these numbers up out of thin air it becomes impossible to believe them.
    Why dont they just hand the process over to some one that is. compedent to do it, the Germans seem to have more capacity then the HSE, let them do it.
    The outbreak hopefully will be getting under control in another few weeks we have many many health worker waiting for results when they could be back on the front line.

    Because it raises the risk of transmission. Their presence is automatically a burden on services in the area which means other people inevitably end up doing more and being exposed to more people, for example, a shop the person may visit. Social distancing is not a fail safe. If people just follow the rules this will be over much more quickly.

    Hold on a second. Learn some reading comprehension.

    "Otherwise" denotes that apart from the nursing home issues we are doing well. My post isn't celebrating the fact that there are high death counts in the nursing homes. Obviously something has went horribly wrong there with controlling infection.

    I never said wipe out the nursing homes ffs.
