Yup it’s quite cold above about 1000 feet.

Hoping we get some heavier showers toward Dublin by the evening.

Temperature is fine so long as the showers are beefy. Another snow shower just passed but they are on their last legs by the time they get here.

Just to show how cold it was. The clumps beneath the snow are ice. The ground was frozen solid above 300m.

I'm hearing reports that the white material on the mountains has been tested and it is indeed snow. It is also intriguing that scientific theories around altitude impacting on temperature may now have firm evidence to back them up. Frost may even be holding on in the higher mountains into the early afternoon. More to come....

had a brief covering early this morning but it melted in no time. Currently light shower with rain, sleet and snow mixed in.

As far as westerlies go this is one of the better ones for the east, usually we get nothing or just a hint of dandruff at night. Here at Dunshaughlin we had a decent shower yesterday afternoon which left about 30 minutes of a dusting and then again this morning. This is about as much as you can expect from a cold zonal westerly without the aid of an existing cold pool of air sitting over the country.

With daytime temperatures several degrees above freezing, high winds preventing frost and 1000s of miles of salty sea air moderating the cold potential, lying snow for any length of time is rarely ever a thing from these scenarios.

Heavy hail shower whitened the paths etc.. a second wet one cleared the white and a third one is at it now .. very loud and harsh

Dublin 4 all earlier showers were wet snow. Current shower is rain

The shower entering the Irish sea off Wicklow/Wexford must be one of the more sizeable showers I've seen make it the full way across to the East. Shame conditions are a little off for midday snow.

Snow/sleet falling currently in D9. Bigger flakes in heavier bursts but plenty of rain/sleet either side of the heaviest bursts. The heavy snow here before 9am and around half 10 did not stick at all.

What mountain are you on? Fair play to you. I am hoping to get to the hills on Thursday.
