    31 points (17/14)

Played brutal on front 9 but had every ounce luck possible

Played much better on back 9 but had 25 putts.....including 2 4 putts. I am not that bad a putter. Cant wait for new putter to arrive

32 points today off 19. 14 on the front, 18 on the back. I knew it wasn’t going to be my day from the get go, terrible drive to start and out of bounds had an uphill battle straight away. Had 2 scratches and happy enough that I scramble to get past 30 points.

    44 off 14
Funny day. Joined the club on Friday so have duel membership as I am moving this year. Handicap in old club was 15. Logged in and computer said 14.
Woohoo cut before hitting a ball.
Played extremely well but still left maybe 3 out there as I lost a ball and got a bit nervous towards the end.
Probably will be cut 2 shots. Nephew managed to pip me on last to shoot 45 off 8. His first time shoot a sub par round. It's been a good day.

    Stats
    10 FIR
    7 GIR
    13 pars
    4 bogeys
    1 dbl bogey
    26 putts

    39 (18/21) off 24.
Made the mistake of counting up score after 16... then 1 point on last 2 dammit.

All came together, first round ever had 2 birds and missed another 2 by an inch. Couple lessons (more to come) helped no end especially with driver.

Scored 24 off hc 19. Best round of the year. Havent played as much in years. Conditions were poor so on a dry day i would have broken 100. Got 101 today. Can taste a sub 100 round. Really hope course stay open

Played the medal yesterday in Arklow. My target was 100 or less, my last two scores in the medal was 105, 105. Shot 96 minus gross, 77 net.

Was happy enough with that. I was using a new driver for the first time too which was hit and miss.

Hopefully courses not shut down over lockdown. A game at the weekend was always great to look forward to.

Played an open on the Palmer in the K Club yesterday, lovely way to end the season proper before the winter golf starts. Super day for it without even a breath of wind. Got new irons also on Friday so it was good to give them a thorough examination.

I'd 35 points off 4 which I was pretty disappointed with. We were playing off the greens which made the course a good bit shorter. 17 on the front, really didn't play that well. Played really nice on the back for the first 7 holes, was 1 under and really should have been way better as had a silly 3 putt and missed 2 very makeable birdie putts. But two 6s to finish was bitterly disappointing. In water off the tee on 17, par with 2nd ball. Pulled my approach to 18 also straight in to water from 200 out. Hit a great 4th though to about 8 feet from the same spot but missed the putt.

The course was in super nick and is a real treat, beautiful track with some absolute gems of holes. My new irons worked extremely well and I will have a lot of fun with them going forward. Nice to know my golf is in such a place where I'm disappointed with 35 points. Long may it continue.

32 points for 15 holes today in the winter league.

Should have been a bit more, had a few stupid mistakes, and 3 birdie putts that were very makeable which didn't drop.
Got up and down on the 15th hole to be level par for the last 6 holes so was happy with that.

    Front - 18
    Back(6) - 14
    1 Birdie
    8 Pars
    6 Bogeys
    33% GIT
    50% Fairways
    25 Putts

Didnt play well but scrambled 31pts off 16 in Moate yesterday. Not striking my irons cleanly enough. Driving and putting was actually decent.

27 points around castlerock off 6.

    3 lost balls, 4 x 3 putts.

Was +1 through 5 but then mistakes crept in. Can see me possibly creeping up to an 8 with the new system.

Hightlight was 280 yard drive + 205 yard 4 iron on 17 to 15ft for eagle putt that just missed.

I was on course for my worst round that I can remember. And that's genuine, I can't remember a round where I finished with less than 20 points and after 9 holes yesterday I had 6! Oddly, I had some good shots and almost good shots in that 9 holes. 2nd hole I just went over the green with my second. Hit a downslope and bounced into the thick rough. Took two to get a foot out of it. Made a good up and down for a 6 for no points. I played the 3rd as a par 5. First two shots perfect, slightly long with my third, downhill putt ran past the hole, lipped out for the 5, got a 6 for a point. It's always the problem with playing it as a par 5 - I generally bogey holes. Two good shots on 5, 3 putted for a bogey. Was a little greedy with my tee shot on 6 and came up short into a bunker. Couldn't get out - scratch. Made a decent double bogey on 6 having just rolled into the thick rough for my tee shot and hacking out into thick rough twice. Hit 3 wood off the tee on 8, perfect spot for my second. Thinned a wedge over the back. Lost ball and a scratch. Terrible tee shot on 9. Did well to get up and down for a point.

The really annoying thing about that front 9 was that there was just 1 shot I know I shouldn't have played. If I'd taken the easy chip I would most likely have had a point instead of a scratch. But I felt like trying the silly shot so I did. But otherwise, it was sensible golf. The only other questionable one was playing the index 1 par 4 as a par 5. Maybe the cautious play was the wrong one. It's a tough tee shot from the blue tees though!

Then I went par, par, par, birdie, par. And each of those pars was within 2 inches of a birdie. That brought me from 6 points to 20. I got a bit lucky that my tee shot was playable on 12, but otherwise I only hit good shots. Then I went long with my approach on 15, lost ball so a scratch. Sliced my drive out of bounds on 16 and didn't bother reloading. Actually my playing partners immediately walked in front of me after it went out of bounds so I couldn't really go again. They also did this to the other guy in my group several times who was a very high handicapper so hit a few tee shots into trouble. There were holes he had two shots on that didn't reload on the tee for because our playing partners walked in front of him before he could hit again.

Bogied 17, hit a bunker on 18 and didn't get out again (3rd time yesterday) for another scratch.

    Overall, what a terrible round!

The tee shot on 3 is really hard from the back but yesterday it was alot easier than normal as there was little or no wind. I aimed over the hill on the right and tugged a little but it still landed in the fairway. Shotscope tells me it was 250 yards which is not a massive hit
Great position to attack the green but of course I chunked my 5 iron into the rough on the left :)

Had a good round myself yesterday - 40 points. Hit 12 greens which makes all the difference.

I played in this myself. Shot 39 off 6 and was disappointed. I left 3 putts right in the jaws for birdie and that always wrecks my head. 3 putts on the last green for bogey was a disaster too, was greenside bunker in 2. We were out at 9.40am and the round flowed great with no hold ups.

I have to agree with you on the course. It is in super condition and some amazing holes. Some people will say €85 is too dear but when you break it down it's a Ryder Cup course, on a Sunday morning where most clubs are full, you get a competition and of course the most important thing, the breakfast bap! I think it's tremendous value.

Group behind us then so. Good job you said there were no hold ups so :). But yes fully agree round flowed nicely, never under pressure and felt we could take our time which is rare. We were discussing the cost after and all agreed they'd pay €85 in the morning again for it without question. That speaks for itself to me. Well done on the 39, course is very scoreable if you don't go swimming which I did 3 times. Probably the best finishing stretch I've ever played - 16, 17 & 18 are all fabulous holes and all very much risk and reward. Went for 16 in 2, ended up in the bunker just short which was good. Took the driver off 17 and pulled left in to the water, 17 off the greens certainly isn't a driver. And of course 18 in to the water left. Superb finish to the course.

I had been hitting driver and getting better scores on that hole overall, but then I started slicing the driver into trouble. After a couple of scratches I said feck that and decided to hit 5i. And to be honest, the point for the double bogey was better than my average score there for the last while, so I wasn't too annoyed with it. I played the 5i perfectly, 8i perfecly, gw over the flag just on the fringe, tough putt downhill that I ran close, but ran 4 feet by and then lipped out for the 5. It was a double bogey, but not a bad one.

Conditions were perfect, but 40 points from the blues is always a great score. I'd say you could be in with a shout for a prize. Fair play!

Ha that is funny, I was conscience of trying to keep up with you because we had a 3 ball up behind us all day. Only one week left of it pending new restrictions, I'll be there if we are allowed.

Putting well will certainly help reduce your handicap and score better but it's not the only thing that will. More accurate iron play will bring your score down quicker than putting IMO. Hitting in to 30 feet instead of 50, 15 instead of 25 etc. This will then in turn take pressure off your putting and obviously the closer to the hole you are the more likely you are to hole a putt and the less likely you are to 3 putt.
    I'd have to disagree.
Unless your approach play improves to such an extent as to make a significant difference to your putting, its not going to have that much of an effect. Its *much* harder to suddenly, consistently start hitting your 5 iron inside 10 feet compares to 25 feet.
Sure hitting it closer is better, but its so much harder to improve that compared to improving your putting.
Also putting stats can be skewed too. An up and down will count as 1 putt however 2 putts for par counts as 2. I'd sooner take my 2 putts and cut out the chip than having to rely on myself chipping and putting each time to achieve the same score.

Work on your iron play, get the ball on the green instead of having to chip/pitch and you will see a massive improvement in your score and handicap.

You say "rely in myself chipping" as if that's somehow harder than putting? If it is, for you, then perhaps that's an aspect of your game you need to work on more?
I'd get a 50 foot chip closer than a 50 foot putt and I reckon I'm not alone on that stat.

Trying to improve by playing more "perfect" golf where you hit more FIR and GIR is on a hiding to nothing, no one plays golf this way and certainly not handicap golfers. You might have the odd day where you do, but you get to be a good golfer by consistently saving shots with your chipping and putting.

Slice is not fun on 3. Was fighting a slice a few months back, decided to play with the slice on 3 and of course I hit the ball dead straight out onto the beach

40 is good going, especially as I lost my tee shot on the 7th hole. Playing partner slipped on his ass just as I was swinging the club and I chunked it into the long stuff just infront of the tee box
    :mad::mad::mad: but also :D:D:D

Bad day on Saturday, culminating with a lost ball in the middle of the fairaway on 14 after my best drive of the day :(

Played club championship yesterday and was 4 over, two bad bogeys on 16 and 17 cost me but nice to get another cut in before qualifying ends.
Spent 2 min 45s looking for a ball again on 14th only to have a playing partner kick it out from under a leaf, was about to get VERY angry considering I was only 2 over a that stage!

I'm stuck in a rut scoring 30-odd points nearly every round. Few blips are costing me scores - had 4 last weekend. Ironically i score well on the low index holes and make a mess of the high ones. Frustrating.

Well managed to sneak out for last qualifying comp of year, might be last golf of year. Did not play well 29pts so will be back to 13.
My last hole was my highlight our 6th a 160m Par 3 with horrible green, hit my tee shot to about 20ft above hole. When walking down we see 2 lads looking at green, one the course manager and other lad was Paul McGinley (he is from our club), proceeded to slot 20ft putt big bend downhill putt for birdie right in front of him. So my last shot will at least be memorable.

It was the only 2 on the hole all day though ;)

    Back swinging the club today
    38 (20/18) points of 12 - 76 strokes

Its cold out there lads but lucky enough there was no wind. The greens were immaculate. My short game was really strong today, using a club with 14 degrees of bounce and it is so easy to get the club through the ball with my chips. Putting was also pretty good today, sank one putt over 10 feet but left alot right beside the hole.
The ball felt like it was going about 20% shorter off the tee, iron play was pretty poor, wasn't striking the ball aswell as I know I can but with the long layoff that is to be expected. Long layoffs and 7 layers of clothing :)

Great to be back playing, hopefully we stay back playing this time
