That tweet was hilarious though, no?

no, it shows astonishing ignorance from a world leader, its well documented this girl has autism, hes effectively demeaning her approach, and trying to promote himself in the process, he has classic npd behavioral issues

All that only makes him more qualified to lead.

I'd much rather have those qualities in a world leader than the poisonous and manipulative other options.

The hole closed due to collective human action in banning global use of CFCs. It's a rare example of an environmental success.

The ban on CFCs was easier as there was an almost straight swap alternative.

Why did it cause one big hole in the South Pole rather than lots of smaller holes all over the globe? Or did all the cfc’s decide to migrate to the South Pole?

Perhaps posing and promoting in front of the entire world isn't the best place for a young girl with well documented issues to be put?

autistic people have a strong belief in social justice, and can be very self driven to achieve this, autism isnt an issue for the person with it, but it does tend to be an issue with neurotypicals

Sure we can just wait until it's too late and then say sure no one told us.
Or, wouldn't it be great if it was just after we had left the planet ourselves, if we knew that would be the case, sure we wouldn't have to worry about it all.
What exactly do you think will happen?

In 1985,Joe Farman, Brian Gardiner and Jonathan Shanklin published results of abnormally low ozone concentrations above Halley Bay near the South Pole. They speculated that this was connected to increased levels of CFCs in the atmosphere. It took several other attempts to establish the Antarctic losses as real and significant, especially after NASA had retrieved matching data from its satellite recordings. The impact of these studies, the metaphor 'ozone hole', and the colourful visual representation in a time lapse animation proved shocking enough for negotiators in Montreal, Canada to take the issue seriously.

No, of course not, it's been changing since day dot.

But, there is irrefutable evidence that the current rate of change is much greater than anytime outside of a catastrophic event and that it is as a consequence of human action.

The impact of this change does not bode well for future generations therefore, we should try to curtail it.

    There isn’t actually.

    Mr. President,

We picked up 50 tons of trash at a homeless encampment in Los Angeles.

I hope others will do less protesting & more cleanups.

There are many many children on this earth who's childhood has been robbed .Many kids who are seriously abused, kids kidnapped for child porn, kids dealing with caring for a parent, kids suffering illness at very young age . kids starving while adults spent money on drugs , kids starved of love and lack care , kids who wander the streets abandoned and hungry .
Greta did not have her childhood taken and she should be aware , or made aware , of this when pontificating to the world

    She seems unhinged tbh.

All this "12 years til doomsday" stuff would do anyone's head in if they were fed it as gospel morning, noon and night.

Their overtime was banned until 2020 last week. They all drive cars and have homes to heat I don't see them rolling in behind the government on this one with free overtime.

I've noticed though too that there are growing strong strong links between climate change deniers and varying strands of the far right.
Because ultimately their goal is the same; The accumulation and retention of personal wealth at any cost. There's a reason oil companies have thrown a trillion dollars over the last 30 years at fighting climate policy.

How did you come up with your figure of a trillion dollars spent fighting climate policy over 30 years? Does it include every dollar spent on lobbyists for the industry even if they are lobbying for pipeline construction, port facilities etc?

You're right, many children are suffering terribly in many parts of the world. And as a result of the natural disasters/political upheaval that will become more prevalent due to climate change, that suffering will continue and intensify.
I do understand the backlash against Greta Thurberg and far left tokenism to this issue, but people should not allow that to sway or influence their opinions. There are plenty of reasonable, knowledgeable voices warning of the catastrophic harm climate change could potentially do.

Richard Boyd Barrett, a politician I severely dislike, talking about climate change almost made me subconsciously release my inner Trump.
That is the wrong response, we have to heed the expert voices here. The IPCC, NASA, Universities, majority of climate scientists are not part of a world wide hoax.
Their message is clear and alarming.
This issue goes beyond left/right politics.
It will need public support, political support, technological and Scientific support to find solutions.

its not an 'Americanism', its a term used openly in the world of psychology, particularly in relation to autism

The most obnoxious, delusional and demented ones always come from old money, 30 plus years olds leaching off their parents and lecturing the rest of us about being a burden on the planet while they plan their next long haul trip to drink hallucinogenic cactus juice or yak piss, or whatever it is this time.

De fuk? What are you an online psychoanalyst?
Npd - Narsistic personality disorder? Neurotypicals? Are you for real. The guy (whether you dislike him or otherwise) ignored the evident temper tantrum. He also made no reference to her condition. Though I'm sure if he did - you would accuse him of bullying the child greta. She has no qualifications or relevant experience in the field of climate change. She is simply someone invited to the conference out of goodwill. He is a democratically elected leader. Get a bit of perspective.

Of note those with the type of autism which greta was diagnosed with - are known to have significant issues obsessing over single topics. Bizarrely you seem to have somehow translated this as "strong belief in social justice" (sic). According to the relevant literature autism is very much an issue for those diagnosed with the condition. I really have no idea where you are getting the pychobabble from.

you've all been duped. Greta "the child activist" is a fully grown adult female who is posing as a child to give weight to their side's argument.

Climate change is not "man made" or caused by us.

it does exist, as it has always done, it's just nowadays that they are trying to extract money from us to pay for it.

tell me - how is a load of money going to stop the sea's from rising and the climate from changing?

the whole thing is ridiculous. yes, it's happening, but there is NOTHING we can do about it. why would you try?

Greta is an Adult actor posing as a child.
