Very hard to find anything decent for under a grand anymore. All getting chewed up and spat back out at double the price by amateur dealers.

Plenty of solid reliable cars from about 1997 to 2005/6 are serious value at the minute.

Insuring them is the issue though. Grand if you're mid policy but trying to get a fresh policy on that age of a car is very difficult and tedious.

It’s all well and good asking double , but it doesn’t always work out , like the wicklow Saab that was on for around € 800 , probably bought for 4-500 and was back up advertised for about 1800 and is now back down to €999 and not sold yet .

To be fair to the seller of that Galant, and like I said a few months ago, a new set of plates and a decent tidy up has really transformed it altogether. It presents more like a tidy young timer nearing classic (tax) status than a rough old shed, as someone referred to it the last time.

Fair play to him, it’s a very rewarding process.

All your talking about is an 2500 valet, cleaned it and took fancy photos and tripled the price, rewarding for him a con for the rest of us that might want to drive the car.

Here here and doesn't it have to be said we live in a country of begrudgers who may be better off getting up of their backside and turning all that negativity into something more positive and productive. Nothing illegal about it and hardly a revelation either that people pick up fixer upper cars, spend a few quid and time on them, maybe put them through the NCT and sell them on at a profit.

Anyway this might be a very cheap runaround that may help get somebody out of a pickle or a lemon. Never do like the look of it when I see it mentioned that it could do with a service but a spin and a once over would tell a lot.

    2.5 auto

Plenty of car here for a bag of sand. Lovely place to sit and could be insured next year as a classic 2nd car, so would be a nice second car runabout and would make up for the higher tax. Would look the biz with the 4 captains chairs and the rear bench removed. Ad is annoying.

Paying just over 1k a year in motor tax on that takes the bangernomics factor out of it imo.

    Nice find.
Just wondering, there was a Flexifuel Volvo 1.8 engine available around 2007 2008. I think was similar to the regular 1.8 Ford Mondeo engine the S40's used, but a lot thirstier.

With these Biopower units in the Saabs, is it the same story? What's the MPG like? Also, what's the annual Road Tax? Are they taxed as a 1.8 on the old system, or was the C02 better on them? Assume the 1.8T is a timing belt system? If so what's the age/km interval? Is it like other GM engines, where the water pump kit should be done at the same time?
Is the linear sport a good spec? Is it the Aero that's the top spec? Other than a nice body kit, does the Aero have any useful extras?
    Where does Vector fit in?
    Thanks in advance, MtM

The Mrs had one and on long motorway journeys it averaged around 37-38mpg, with maybe low 30's on a mix of town/regional roads and yes, it was the BioPower one she had.

That one is taxed on the old system, so it's 710 p.a, as the 1.8T is actually a 2 litre engine
The only non-turbo engine they did in the 9-3 was the GM 1.8 engine used in Opels and Vauxhalls etc

    It's a chain in this engine (B207E)

The Linear/ Linear Sport was the entry level, but decent equipment here in Ireland. Aircon/full leather, multifunction steering etc. Vector was a trim level up and the Aero sold here was only available in the 210bhp version, which is the same engine but tuned differently and high pressure turbo. The better specs have a few other extras like reverse sensors, heated seats etc
