It briefly got over 17C in Castlebar today, but after a dull wet start it has turned into a lovely bright evening although the humidity has stayed steady around 90% for most of the day.

today maxed out at 19C here in Meath, back to 18C now, so still waiting to reach 20C this summer, hopefully I may get that by tomorrow.

You'll surely see mid 20's by Friday
SE breeze passing over heat island Dublin clearing out the sea modification and uppers near 20 anyway
I'd nearly gamble on high 20's depending on the progress of the front

gavsweather made a very interesting point today in his videos. The uppers that are associated with this 2 to 3 day hot spell do not reflect the very conservative ground level temperatures being forecasted.

The GFS in particular only going with 22 to 24 for Ireland and not much higher than that for southern UK. In reality with these uppers we should see temperatures of 28 or 29C at some stage in Ireland and up to 35C in southern England. Will be interesting to see how high the temperatures go because the forecasts do seem to be undercooking the temperature potential on Thursday and Friday.

Right now we have +8C uppers which is slightly above average, but by Thursday uppers will be between +15C and +18C, a very significant rise on today's values and indeed tomorrows.

Aye,you'd add 12c to upper temps plus a degree or two more for prolonged sunshine well inland
    Cloud cover ,add less
    Rain/thunder considerably less

These are the longest daylight hours of the year with exceptionally high albeit briefly uppers

It could be 33 or 34C by Saturday in the South East of England. I would not like to be in France this week, where temperatures could be in excess of 40 degrees!

You can see the developing storms coming through Biscay heading for southern/eastern parts of UK overnight with some severe weather and disruption likely in the early hours.

It can't be ruled out that we could get clipped in eastern/southeastern areas but that's very unlikely...

Have you honestly not got above 20c? This year or just since the start of summer ie June?

I thought PP had reached 20 a few times already this year and by association Meath.

    Maybe sryanbruen can tell? :-)

no 20C this June as of yet, got very close to it today, but still 19C.

We reached 20C on Saturday 20th of April and 22C on Sunday 21st of April.

The only other day to reach 20C or above was Thursday 30th of May with 21C.

todays' max temperatures over Ireland were from Wexford to Roscommon and down to Shannon and back across with over 20C recorded in that zone.

Hopefully the 20C+ will be more widespread tomorrow

Was in London for one of those a few years back, huge spaceship-like cb coming across the channel and everyone on netweather going mental with excitement only for it to die a death as soon as it hit the south coast. We're not the only ones who have to frequently live with disappointment!

    From Convectiveweather:

The upper trough axis will be located above the Republic of Ireland, and with cooler air aloft diurnal heating should yield a few hundred J/kg CAPE. As a result scattered showers and a few thunderstorms will be possible during the afternoon and evening hours, particularly focussed along sea breeze convergence close to and just inland from the coasts. Due to the proximity to the upper low, weak shear will result in "pulse type" convection, the slow storm-motion perhaps leading to the risk of some localised surface water flooding. Small hail may be possible in the most intense cells with perhaps one or two funnel clouds.

Was indoors most of the day so it seemed fairly cool, went to the shops there about an hour ago and was sweating for a good bit after coming back.

Very close as they'd say down the country!

Cork looks to be in the firing line tomorrow
It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Not much talk lately but the uppers really are extraordinary for Thursday. Pity it's a 24 hour event as fresher air moves in for the weekend.

From the hype of 3/4 days ago it's all gone a bit fruit cocktail. Let's hope July brings something more settled and warm

E.Sussex/Kent region usually does well in these setups, it's London that usually seems to miss out in these scenarios. It could well be the same tonight.

Most of the storms at this stage seem to be off the SW and S coasts on Thurs, could still get a few coming close to the coasts.

Have to see what happens on Fri but Sat looks like big potential IMO.

    North Laois.

There's a heavy condensation forming on the bodywork of my car and you can see your breath.
    Mild and close.
Very unusual combination to me altogether.

Thin fog building in South Laois. Rolling in slowly. Like something you'd see in a horror movie.

Just after waking up and feeling sticky after it! Envious of ye all over there in Ireland: temperature here on the Franco-German border hasn't dipped below 20 since Friday morning. :( "Only" 32 yesterday evening but the humidity was desperate.

For those feeling jealous of our continental temperatures, don't forget they're also accompanied by movement restrictions - speed limits reduced by 20km/h on major routes, trains running slower to avoid damaging the tracks, restrictions (or prohibitions) on taking any vehicle with a polluting engine into many towns ... It's not all suntans and tequilas on the beach! :D
