I'll be voting aontu the only party with the courage to take a conservative stance on abortion,
Rte and politicians bullied the Irish people into voting yes.
Abortion results in the death of a child yet it's been celebrated like it's s good thing.

Oh god here we go. Can we not make this thread about abortion please.

I'm voting for Aontu as well. I like their policies and the people they have running are decent people. There is no way I'd vote for Matt Waine. What has he ever done in Ongar? I see Rita Harrold has posters up all over the place. Where is she running? Again, she is just another mouthpiece for the far left. We need decent people in politics and Aontu are the only party with those traits

Rita Harrold is running for Europe in Dublin.

I am not affiliated with any party

Your only 2 posts up until now just seemed suspicious, slating every one else and saying how great Aontú are, you can see why anyone would suspect you're a member or working with them.

    LOL

Actually yeah wasn't it a rule that it you were affiliated with a party that you had to make that clear from the out set?

Fingal County Council can't do anything about abortion. The election is to find councillors to represent the community to the local authority, in this case Fingal County Council.
Your point might hold more water if they were running in a general election.

Yes we can start with local authorities.
Hopefully we can repeal the repealing of the eight before it's too late

With respect, that is a different issue for a different election. There is not a single thing they can do as elected councillors to change something that has already been written into our Constitution - nothing. Local elections are for those who you feel will improve or stand up for your community, be your voice when the county council are allocating funds and resources, etc.

This might be a helpful read:
What does a county councillor actually do?

So I'm a looney because I don't think abortion should be used as a form of birth control.

OK folks, before this gets out of hand, there is to be NO discussion in this thread about abortion, repealing anything in the constitution or anything else along those lines. They are national issues, not local, and while you may choose to support or not support a candidate based on their, or their party's stance on this issue, ultimately as councillors they will have no remit to deal with it.

And as was mentioned above, should you have an affiliation with a party or candidate, failure to disclose this will result in a forum ban until after the elections if it is found you have been less than honest.

    Thanks.

Looks like only two of the candidates from Mulhuddart have twitter pages that I can find. Disappointing. If anyone finds more let me know.

I fully respect people's decision on how they voted in the referendum but please don't take 1 item and ruin this helpful and informative thread.

My reasons for not voting for Edward McManus who is running for Aontu is that I am never a fan of people jumping from party to party, I would not be a SF supporter so would never have considered Peadar Toibin and I can't see what McManus has done for the area currently or previously, good luck to him if he gets in but not for me.

The party I would normally vote for do not have strong candidates IMO so I will be voting for who I feel is most prominent in the area and is seen to work hard and that is Roderic O'Gorman.

EDIT: Sorry posted this after seeing the Mod post above so please delete if appropriate.

Roderic has a fantastic record in the community and he'd be getting a v high preference from me if he was still in my area. He's a gent.

Ditto. He's a huge part of the reason I'm so frustrated that after 15 years of voting in Castleknock lea that we're now in Blanchardstown Mulhuddart.

Will be interesting to see if we get canvassers this time, in 15 years living in my place I think I've had two ever.

They don't seem to knock on my door, just leave leaflets. And I'm home so it's not that I wasn't there when they called.

I've had Punam Rane (FG) canvas this week, and Mary McCamley (Lab) is always around dropping off updates.

An even though I'm not in Roderic O’Gorman's (Green) LEA, I've met him a few times and he's always good for discussing local issues.

There was a team from FF a few weeks ago, I'm sure their candidate, JK Onwumereh, wasn't with them, but Jack Chambers was.

I've never even heard of Mary McCamley until this thread, she's never been in my estate, not even to drop a leaflet off. We get post from Joan Burton but that's about it.

Yes, Jack was out with someone called Freddie Cooper. He was here the other weekend. Didn't stop, just handed the leaflet and said he was running in the local elections.

Had to look up who he is. Previously an Independent, polled quite low. But nothing otherwise about him and FF come up.

I suppose with the number of seats in the Blanchardstown/Mulhuddart LEA a candidate can pick a couple of areas and concentrate on them to be sure of a seat. I've had reason to mail all councillors before and I always know in advance who will respond to me.

There's councillors who just won't bother with you for reasons I suspect are because you're not from an area in which they'd get a good number of votes.

I know her through one of the community groups I'm involved in, she's been very supportive. To be honest I thought for years that she was in swords or another part of Fingal but in more recent years she's been of great assistance to us. She's no Roderic but I still rate her highly.

Well the goddamn posters have already infested the place, a quite hilarious medium in this day and age, maybe a soapbox outside the bookies in Ongar should be the next 21st century approach.

Many of the posters are breaking the rules by being below head height etc, ive started reporting them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 86 ✭✭miss misty

Who do you report them to?

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,203 ✭✭✭✭Hurrache

The council. I've tried asking the responsible party to fix or remove them before but I've had snotty and dickish replies, I'm looking at you socialists whatever you're calling yourselves these days.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,085 ✭✭✭✭Caranica

Just home. Spotted some posters for Lorna Nolan, had never heard of her. Got in and there was a leaflet from her, reading through it she was very close to getting a vote from me until I turned the leaflet over and saw "supporting Clare Daly". That would be a no then!

Also 2 FF leaflets, they went straight in the green bin.

Hotels/pubs/community centres must love the few months before local elections. There have been posters for public meetings being hosted by candidates on crime, cyber bullying, all the good stuff over the past month or two.

It amazing 2 weeks after the elections all these issues will be sorted with no need for public meetings,

One of the candidates near me has also organised a clean up of the park this morning. The park's been covered in litter for years.

If I was cynical I would think they were only doing all these good deeds to get elected.
