Yeah but Kemper doesn't really belong in this thread is.
One of the most intelligent though, still in jail and doesn't look for parole.

Can't believe HH HOLMES wasn't mentioned yet.

    I really wish I hadn't read that. :(

    Evil, sick bastard.
Yeah. Though against my last post I'd happily slide a noose over his neck and pull the lever and I'd make it a short drop too.

Hopefully the guards in his prison have alerted the nastiest bastards in his prison and turn a blind eye, so they can torture, but not kill him, every day of his miserable existence. Even "ordinary" rapists would look down on him and that's some trick.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

William Calley ordered & helped kill over 500 old men, women & children in My Lai & My Khe hamlets, tortured & raped a number of young girls before they were killed, scalped their hair of & wore it in their head bands as they mowed down humans and the animals in the hamlet with their AR-15's & M60's.
Burned the villages to the ground & polluted the wells.
the same trooper pushed another villager into a well and threw a grenade in the well. Next, he saw fifteen or twenty people, mainly women and children, kneeling around a temple with burning incense. They were praying and crying. They were all killed by shots in the head.

"A lot of women had thrown themselves on top of the children to protect them, and the children were alive at first. Then, the children who were old enough to walk got up and Calley began to shoot the children".

There were some South Vietnamese people, maybe fifteen of them, women and children included, walking on a dirt road maybe 100 yards [90 m] away. All of a sudden the GIs just opened up with M16s. Beside the M16 fire, they were shooting at the people with M79 grenade launchers ... I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
old papa-sans, women and kids. As a matter of fact, I don't remember seeing one military-age male in the entire place, dead or alive.

Josef Mengele would easily be the most sadistic, twisted and prolific killer of all time. Easily the worst human being ever to set foot on the planet. The fact he got away with it all makes it so much worse

Josef Mengele got away with it because he ran, tail between his legs, to South America

Shiro Ishii, head of Japan's Unit 731, was granted immunity by the US in exchange for his research so he well and truly got away with it.

Served a sentence of about four years under house arrest and apparently apologised recently too.

Doesn't actually meet the definition of a serial killer. The My Lai massacre would be a crime against humanity I think.

Karl Marx. Take him out and there is no Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Kim Family and Hitler (yes Hitler, socialists don't like talking about their estranged brothers National Socialists).

On an individual level probably Joseph Mengele

Hitler was clearly never a follower of Marx. Mussolini was.

Ramadan Mansour, Egyptian serial killer who tortured and killed homeless children, all boys under 14, on the rooftops of trains traveling between Cairo and Alexandria. Their bodies were thrown from the trains meaning the discoveries were many hundreds of miles apart hampering investigations.

He was nicknamed 'al-Tourbini' meaning 'Express Train'

The details of his crimes are sickening. He was eventually caught and executed by hanging in 2010

Harry Truman - gave the order to drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki with the combination of the blasts and resulting firestorm massacaring nearly 250,000 people

I don't know if you could call Ed Gein 'the worst' serial killer (technically he may not actually be a serial killer at all, although his brother may count as a victim too) but he's certainly one of the most unusual.

War can never justify the complete and utter destruction aimed of the civilian population which is what happened here. In the history of conflict there has never been more deliberate massacre of civilians.

I know the sentiment of the thread is probably looking for the lone wolf type serial killer but for me that atomic bombings is absolutely depraved.

As regards Irish serial killers, Larry Murphy springs to mind although never actually arrested or proven to have killed. There is also certain cartel leaders in Dubai who have ordered the murder of a lot of people in the last couple of years

Reading these wiki links about these guys (and in fairness it's mostly guys), you think you've read the worst you could read until they outdo one another.

Humans are capable of unimaginable depravity.
Interesting but not at all surprising how these people flourish. Given that the likes of Bundy and Ramirez are irresistible to a cohort of mad dopes (and probably more than a small cohort tbh) it's not surprising this trait survives.

I think Kieran Kelly is the only confirmed Irish serial killer (who would fit the typical profile anyway). He was Irish born but carried out his crimes in London between the 50s and 80s.

He would push people onto the tracks just as trains in the tube stations were coming in. He was convicted of 2 murders but is suspected of up to 30. He died in prison in 2001

Just on bombings, the nukes dropped on Japan were necessary. Millions more would have died otherwise.

If you want deliberate mass murder then the bombing of Dresden is up there. Done in a way so as to kill as many as possible.

Harold Shipman must be one of the worst solo killers. I think his murder tally runs into the hundreds but the figure will never be known.

Killing enemy civilians on the basis that you protect your soldiers is clearly a war crime.

However mass killings are not serial killings so it’s off topic.

He escaped out of Germany and lived in Argentina for 40 years. That in my mind is getting away with it . Given the utter depravity of the useless experiments he was carrying out and the horrendous suffering he inflicted upon mainly children before he killed them he should have had some serious retribution inflicted upon him. Spending 40 years living in freedom along Argentinian beaches was a sickening end to his story

As far as Irish serial killers go, Lenny Murphy would have to take the number one spot.
