When a central tenet of the faith in question involves tacit support for terrorism, anti woman and LGBT practices and expecting everyone to bow to their ways - yeah I have a huge problem with it.

Wait until Brexit happens and then we are going to get the ones the UK will shut its doors on, Brexit is all about British people wanting strict immigration rules and we will pay the price.

The biggest increase is in people from Georgia, they are tired of life in their own country and are booking flights to somewhere they can enter without visas and then claiming asylum when on Irish soil. These people do not need us to give them asylum but once they have claimed asylum here its impossible to get rid of them. The liberals want them to be able to work and get driving licences after they have claimed asylum and next thing they have probably married an Irish woman, had children and then its even more difficult to deport them.

The asylum system was set up for a very different purpose and its now been abused. It was never intended to accomodate what are basically tourists who have paid for flights with the intention of never going back to their own country.

Really sick of all of this now and feel really sorry for young Irish people working on low wages, paying lots of tax, paying high rent with no tax allowance for this rent and all the while knowing their taxes are paying the huge expense indirect provision is costing us. The liberals want indirect provision abolished but that means each of these tourist asylum seekers then needs to be given social housing, again funded by the worker who may be over a decade on the housing list and if he is single he will never get a social house.

As I said wait until the UK takes charge of its own affairs and deals with immigrants under their own Laws and not under direction from the EU.

We are going to see a huge increase, the writing is on the wall and the numbers have started rising already.

    Epic rhetoric.

What about Ireland’s greying population and socialist policies?

    Whose gonna pay for it?

You realize its a massive socioeconomic policy that necessitates population growth, indigenously (Irish are having lesser kids at later ages) or through immigration.

Rather than scream ‘OH NO IMMIGRANTS’ why dont you critique what actually makes them necessary?

Or better yet, have seven kids

No ordinary working couple except the D4 luverlies can afford 5 kids never mind 7.

Nobody is saying it's the immigrants fault but a valid question has to be asked and addressed about what kid of immigrants we want in Ireland. If we want to end up like the UK or Germany then so be it but both countries are a ticking time bomb and make no mistake about it Brexit is only the beginning of it.

If wanting the best and brightest here is racist then i guess im a racist.

Ireland’s border policy is a consequence of it being a welfare state with a greying population. You can take a reductive approach and say this is all due to Ireland not having enough children.

To the government’s eyes, any immigrant that works pays taxes and supports the welfare state. This is the ‘plot’ that most conservatives write conspiracies about.

nope. there is anti-social behaviour in areas, some of it being caried out by gangs of black youths and others gangs of white youths. some people specifically pick the anti-social behaviour commited by the black gangs, and suggest that somehow the areas effected are "war zones" . this in turn could be racist, because it's likely being done to push a particular agenda which may not be specifically about sorting anti-social behaviour, but rather about having a go at black people and trying to suggest that somehow they are are anti-social.
We have 1000’s of homeless on the street and can’t look after them , but sure no probs let in these families who i’ll 100 % be sure will not add anything positive to society

there aren't 1000s of homeless on the street. there are 1000s of homeless in hotels, with a small number on the street who would ideally get whatever help they need. we can well afford to sort out the homeless in the hotels, and help those on the streets but are choosing to kick the can down the road. we can also help look after a small amount of people who come here. plenty who come here very much offer a hell of a lot to society, compared to some of our own.
Response 101. When in confronted with truth mention Hitler/racist etc....

except we aren't being confronted with truth in a lot of cases, but with hyperbole designed to push an agenda. so it's not surprising posters who are known for this may end up being called racist, because they have form for views considered to be racist.

ticking a box on a form does not make you of a religion.

funny thing is britain could deliver a strict immigration policy within the EU if they wanted. they don't because it means actually having to fund the resources to enforce it. once brexit takes place there will be no more funding for the border force then there is now.
perhapse they will do the old reliable and palm it off on to one of the outsourcing giants so they can make it someone elses problem, either defunding it more, or paying out more but seeing the same or lesser results.

am, the uk is in charge of all it's affairs and deals with immigrants under a mix of it's own laws, and the ones it voted for as part of the EU.

I imagine you think you know what you're talking about but you must be on the fritz - the main reason for most of the 52% voting to leave was the lack of enforcement of illegal immigrants/fake asylum seekers/"children" whose were shown to be 30 years old minimum - and included sex offenders and terrorists.

There have been rapists who the EU rules forbade the UK from kicking out due to some human rights bull****. The current UK government have made a **** up of the Brexit negotiations for sure but these current crowd getting on pleasure boats to cross the Channel need to be taken back to France immediately. We're the likely place they'll end up.

I have no doubt most Irish people would vote to strip citizenship, its a very good idea and it might make future wannabee jihadists think twice about travelling.

What about Irish people who enlist in the British or US armed forces?

It’s racist to want to give your money to a fellow Irishman rather than a foreigner??

Yes. This is pretty basic level stuff.

Since when did race and ethnicity become interchangeable? The English and Irish are two different ethnic groups, but are they different races?

If you mean in the context of racism then it was 1969

Have you an example of this? I imagine such a case made the papers somewhere? Or is this a personal anecdote?

I think calling tretorn a racist is a little unfair, if you walk around some areas of Dublin you could be forgiven for thinking you where in a foreign country. The last 20 years has seen rapid change in Ireland especially Dublin and not everyone is as comfortable as others with the o
    pace of the change.

As for him not getting in a taxi with non nationals, yes that could be seen as racist but has anyone asked him why he feels that way before branding him racist?

I know a number of females who wont under any circumstances get in taxis with African drivers, they just arent comfortable with it. There isnt a racist bone in their bodies either. Its not racist to want to be around your own people, id prefer an Irish taxi man but i wouldn't refuse any taxi that pulled over for me.

I work in the hospitality industry and i can tell you im getting more and more negative feedback from tourists as the years have gone by. A lot are shocked when they come to Dublin expecting an 'Irish experience' its far from it. Americans and Brits should have no problem being understood in English speaking Ireland, but this is one of the main complaints i hear.

All the things you've described as not racist are, in fact, racist. You may think it's unfair to call someone who holds racist views a racist. I think it's unfair to discriminate against someone, to affect their livelihood, based solely on their skin colour or nationality. Ireland has been a popular tourist and immigration spot for a long time. If seeing too many foreigners around Dublin or working in your local shop makes you uncomfortable then your issue lies closer to home.

I dont discriminate against anyone, i said i preferred Irish taxi drivers, its a personal choice ive nothing against black people or any other people.

If i where to say im not going in a taxi with a black driver because hes black that would be racist.

Preferring an Irish driver is not racist.

Ive had taxi drivers black and white refuse to take me to a certain part of Dublin, no doubt they had their reasons for refusing to take me there, who am i to question it? Its their car. I wouldnt start claiming racism and that im being discriminated against because that would be pathetic.

Also, when im at home i walk past a Polish shop to go to my local Spar, ive never went into the Polish shop, i prefer Irish goods. Is that also racist?

Generally choosing oe shop over another is not racist as things like selection of goods, price and overall experience come into play. But you seem to be avoiding it because it's Polish, which is also racist.

To help you figure it out in future here is the international definition of racial discrimination.

any distinction, exclusion, restriction or preference based on race, colour, descent, or national or ethnic origin which has the purpose or effect of nullifying or impairing the recognition, enjoyment or exercise, on an equal footing, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural or any other field of public life.

Yeah its happened a handful of times to me, usually very late at night and id be hailing off the street, they pull in window goes down, "where are you going?" Coultry Road (where i lived at the time) "no im not going up there" to be fair i wouldnt blame them at all. If i was a taxi driver id be picky about where im going at that hour of the morning.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,252 ✭✭✭FTA69

Oh for f*ck’s sake. The Polish shop argument is rubbish because they’re selling different products that aren’t to everyone’s taste. The taxi driver is offering exactly the same service ie a spin home. But the basis of some points above is “I don’t want a spin home because I don’t want to pay or share a space with a black fella.”

Now you can f*ck about all you like and pretend that doesn’t make you racist but discriminating or exercising prejudice on the basis of someone’s race is exactly that.

Honestly, it’s the epitome of bigoted small-mindedness.

Dublin. Never heard of a taxi driver refusing to go somewhere. Maybe he's finishing up and doesn't want to go in the opposite direction to home or something. What's your point anyway?
