According to a local source the missing teenager was abducted shortly after yesterday’s attack at the Bridge of Peace which took place at 6.20 pm when a number of shots were fired from a passing car into a taxi.

So the chopped up kid was a response? Bloody hell.

Was he only abducted yesterday evening?! Jesus Christ

  • Registered Users Posts: 425 ✭✭Boxcar_Willie

Had been missing for a few days . His dad was on Facebook asking if anyone had seen him . Think he was only officially reported missing yesterday .
Word is he was a runner for one of the gangs and this was punishment for "skimming" .

Cant wait for the Drogheda edition of Narcos :pac:

Looks now like the whole charade on the bridge on Monday night was just an elaborate distraction to keep the Gardaí occupied while other grotesque events were going on , and to give an alibi to one of those involved .

What I've heard is that he was a relative of the person who murdered the lad in Bettystown and this was a revenge attack.

The shooting was a response to the killing of the kid.
Apparently they sent a video of the dead kid to the other gang and that prompted the gun attack.
    Mad stuff altogether,

Confirmed that the body is Keane Mulready-Woods. 17 years of age.

It's about time we learned the lesson from Portugal, and from the days of Prohibition. All this violence is over revenue from the drug trade. Drugs need to be decriminalised, and available from state sanctioned suppliers. Treat addicts and take the business out of the hands of these people. It's the only way to truly wind and end the war.

Wouldn't that require legalisation not decriminalisation?

Portugal's decriminalisation is hugely different to legalisation. Dealing and possession for sale/supply is still illegal in portugal. It hasn't stopped the revenue flowing it's just stopped criminalising addicts.

I'd be in favour of decriminalisation of simple possession for personal use but legalisation is too far. You're essentially making legit business men out of drug traffickers as the drugs will still be produced by murderous cartels in far off countries that have the climate. People point to cannabis legalisation in the US when making an argument for legalisation of cocaine and heroin. Different beasts entirely.

Wouldn't it be better if the chattering classes simply stopped taking cocaine etc?Stop f**king up their own and other peoples lives. The gangs only thrive when there are ready buyers.

People have taken drugs since forever, it will never be simply stopped

plus if there were no drugs to be sold gangs would find something else to make money and cause chaos - fuel, drink, tobacco, counterfeit clothes, sex, protection etc.

There has always been scrotes, always will be scrotes - gangs, violence and crime have been around since man started walking on two legs

This chaps poor family :( Whatever he was involved in, he was only 17, he must have been terrified. Who the f**k has the stomach or mental capacity to plan something like this - it's utterly barbaric.

It is horrendous. The poor kid. He never stood a chance. How could someone do that to another human being?????

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,825 ✭✭✭IvoryTower

His poor family who done a stand up job of raising him. Godson to the towns longest standing gang leader, what could possibly go wrong.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,423 ✭✭✭CheerLouth

I get where you are coming from. And to be fair, you probably aren't wrong. Did he deserve to be murdered & dismembered though at 17?

The way it was done, should never happen. But I don't think you can go around petrol bombing peoples houses and not expect that it may get you killed. The town is better off without him and anyone else involved.

Gospel of Matthew (Matthew 26, 26:52): "Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword."

It's sad that someone as young as 17 had to go thru this. I feel for his family, but even more for other children who may know him from school / other social activities and knew nothing of gang related stuff.

It doesn't look like it's going to end here though, does it?

  • Registered Users Posts: 425 ✭✭Boxcar_Willie

Michael Reade on LMFM this morning went into detail about the video circulating showing Keanes last moments and the aftermath of the murder , including the dismemberment . It was gruesome listening , I'm not going to go into the details it's that bad . I'm sure LMFM will put up a podcast later .

That story is like something you'd hear happening involing the cartels in Mexico.

That child was badly let down by the adults around him, he never stood a chance.
That's the danger with these gangs, when they are groomed into joining it all looks so cool & fun playing the hardman and by the time they're in too deep and want out, they can't get out.
I know the child in this case was from a criminal family & was possibly more than willing to play his part, but what hope did he have of having any other kind of life?

Regardless of what he did or didn't do, he was a child.
A child at a clear disadvantage in terms of life experience, maturity and the concept of consequences when trying to navigate that kind of dangerous situation. The adults who committed those violent acts against him had the upper hand in every sense of the word, he was vulnerable and an easier target than older, more senior members of the gang.

That's what makes this so horrific. Children should never be so deep into that kind of world that they're at risk of being brutally murdered and dismembered by other adults.

Of course. But it's never happened anywhere.

I'm sure people thought the same doing Prohibition. It's never gonna happen in our lifetime. Let's do something practical rather than thinking that more guards on the street or another anti drug ad campaign are going to do anything. The gangs are clearly acting with impunity

That's all far less lucrative than drugs. Taking away that revenue stream is there first and biggest step.

it might be less lucrative - however when there isn't as much money going around gangs will do more and more unpalatable things to get their hands on it ...

Unfortunately that would involve a Government with a backbone to stand up to the 'Joe Duffy crowd' of auld biddys.

Remember when the smart-shops were closed down by emergency legislation?

The Government are quick enough to move if they think they'll lose a few votes, but if it's 17-year old tracker-knackers getting chopped up, I wouldn't be holding my breath.

I don't have that much sympathy with the victim on account of his age. He got himself mixed up in a fairly grown-up level of trouble and paid the price.

That said, I do hope the adults that brought him up wrong realise what their failings led to.

The only positive thing to come from all of this is pressure on politicians and Gardai to deal with this situation instead of just condemning it.
