Garlic man (who just surely be out soon) got the same sentence, yet his fraud didn't bankrupt the country and he certainly didn't try every which way to slow the legal process down

    Not fair at all

garlic man had his sentence reduced to 2 years on appeal. And garlic man got temporary release in 2013 to serve the rest of his sentence from home.

Absolute joke of a sentence didnt even get a year for each billion he defrauded the country out of! But what do you expect from this Joke of a country and government!

He be out in less than 2 because he'll appeal it..

Gaelic man only done a year! I knew of him.. They will all come out still worth millions...

    Great to be Irish.

    well that's guesswork isn't it!?

what grounds will his appeal be on?

6 year imprisonment is a lot more than I was expecting.

Exactly, the way people talk you'd think they could do 2 or 3 years standing on their head.

But he's just the scapegoat isn't he? Hand picked by Seanie at 37 to take over, sure they knew well he was a dumb and insecure outsider, gullible enough to do whatever he was told with what they knew was coming down the line. And now he gets 6 or 4.5 years or whatever to contemplate that.

The other senior guys in Anglo in the running to take over would have stood up to Seanie and Quinn. They needed a patsy and DD, you were it!

Meanwhile, the 2 lads are out of bankruptcy and doing fine. Playing golf and buying back their business.

More than two, less than five and those in power will finally be able to point to someone who has actually paid for white collar crime. He’ll serve about a year though.

    Really?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,593 ✭✭✭Wheeliebin30

Does anyone really think, based on our awful track record, that this banker is going to get a sentence? Its Ireland, where absolutely nobody is accountable and on the rare occasion a "higher-up" of society is arrested and charged, it will eventually come to nothing. He will get a little slap on the wrist, 5 years suspended and off he goes with his millions still stashed somewhere.

Just like the smear test scandal, blood scandal etc. absolutely NOBODY gets jail and the lawyers fatten their nests on bloated public enquiries which have no teeth.

    You were saying?

Give it a year and the Sunday World will have a picture of him in an open prison

I thought we went mad? Was it a mad party? Noonan and Dinny seemed to fare very well fair play. Hard to 'take one for the team' in the knowledge some don't play for the team but eat the oranges anyway.

Drumm is a patsy. I'm glad someone saw fit to exercise accountability. The best thing to come from this is it just might make others like him in public office or private, think a little before playing with the lives of others for personal gain, which is what this amounted to.

Begley's Law: any online discussion of sentencing in Ireland will eventually result in Garlic Man being mentioned.
