Anyone know the extent of Aussie's injury? He was flying yesterday apparently - looked very sharp.

It was precautionary, it’s nothing too serious

I ordered on the 6th Dec and when I emailed I was told it would be out before the first league game which is 25/01. Service from them is woeful! They sent out a load of cards with the wrong names last year!

But but but he was ‘gently’ retired by Cahill like the other pets....???

'Pets' ?? - Jesus can we just leave off the snide remark about McGrath. He's gone two years now.
He tried to something different, it didn't work out, so let's all move on.
Philip was a great servant, however he's made his decision. To be honest, half back is one of our stronger positions and we have a few exciting young half backs who need to stand up and be given the opportunity to shine.

I think he was being sarcastic about lads who blamed Derek McGrath for his retirement

Think he was having a dig at those making the accusations rather than the other way around to be fair.

    Was moved to wit

Waterford came out one point winners over Clare, in a competitive challenge match last night. Don't know the Waterford team or actual final score, but we had the likes of Tony Kelly, John Conlon and Shane O'Donnell, that started for the Banner County.

Waterford came out one point winners over Clare, in a competitive challenge match last night. Don't know the Waterford team or actual final score, but we had the likes of Tony Kelly, John Conlon and Shane O'Donnell, that started for the Banner County.

Waterford had: SOK Conor Gleeson, Prunty, Kieran Bennett, Iarliath Daly, Darragh Fives, Jake Dillon, Stephen Roche, MJ Sutton, Jamie Barron, Jack Fagan, Shane Fives, Dessie Hutcheson, MIkey Kearney and Stephen Bennett- I think- hard to tell with helmets these days. Brought on a number of subs late on.
Waterford edged the first half mainly due to an early goal, Clare were well on top for long periods of the second half. Very open game in the 2nd half, Waterford full back line really struggled at times.
A penalty scored by Bennett was the difference in the end.
A lot of aimless high ball into a 2 man FF line in the first half meant a lot of ball was coming out as quick as it wa going in. Waterford were looking to play a fast running game which on occasion resulted in good scores but more often broke down due to poor decision making or sloppy play.
Jack Fagan won some high ball but did not create much with it. Waterford were heavily reliant on Bennett for scores.
difficult to judge the team overall based on this game, very cold evening and an over fussy referee made for a very stop start game.

Great post carter10. Did Clare play very direct last night, a lot of debate here in Clare about the style and method of play that Brian Lohan's wants his team to play, under his management.

That looked a good Waterford team on paper carter10. Overall a good and worthwhile exercise for both teams, with both fielding strong teams. The 2020 league begins today week!!

Clare to me also seemed to be going with a 'running off the shoulder' game but although they lost narrowly last night their execution of
this plan was better than ours. Also they played with 3 inside forwards and at times cut open the waterford defense with good off the ball movement and excellent stick passsing.
One negative for Clare (as it was in the league last year)- silly unnecessary fouling- cost them a significant number of scores from frees.
also Clare played two big lads in the half forward line who had a lot of success under the dropping ball.

That's great to hear that re Clare style of play. Overdoing either the direct stuff (see Kilkenny and Clare's 2nd half performances v Tipp in championship 2019) or the short passing game, that can go so horribly wrong if broken down, is not the way forward. A good mix of both methods putting unpredictably on opponent's defenders and heads is the right approach.

Good also to hear of the traditional 3 men inside too along with you mention our stick passing and off the ball movement, which was far too laboured IMO during our humiliating performances against Tipp and Limerick in the championship last year. However when I hear of lax and lazy tackling resulting in soft and easy frees for our opponents......

As for your own county Waterford, I do expect ye to be playing hurling beyond June, as third seeds in Munster, at the expense of Cork and Clare. Liam Cahill is the type of manager that will get the max out of what is a very talented bunch of players. I also think that the ditching of the "sweeper" that was IMO holding ye back from Liam McCarthy glory, will only be a positive for the Deise men. Should be a great year!
