Good luck to Dunnamaggin this weekend. The club with over 100 spellings of its name won't care which one is engraved once they win it. Enjoy the big day they don't come around too often

Looking at the teams left playing Fitzgibbon Cup there doesn't seem to be to many from Kilkenny left in the competition, compared to Munster counties and Galway. Not a massive concern but does show a shift in power

Many of the Kilkenny lads would have traditionally opted for WIT, but now many good hurlers are opting for Carlow (maybe its the DJ factor). Carlow have come on in leaps and bounds but i would say that WIT are probably not as strong as a result. Just one theory. Could be sh1te.

    Makes sense though:)

It's actually a very valid point, two of our best young hurlers played with them this year, Jason Cleere and Richie Leahy while Kevin Kelly and Chris Bolger played on the Carlow team that reached the final two years ago. 15 or 20 years ago it would have been unheard of for a good Kilkenny hurler to go to Carlow with the majority going to WIT and UCD.

The whole 3rd level landscape has changed in the last 10 or 12 years with the emergence of LIT, UL, MIC and in the last few years Carlow IT and DCU as genuine contenders. The result being that counties like Kilkenny and Tipperary who don't have a 3rd Level college have their hurlers much more spread out.

Leaving aside Cork and Galway who are obviously going to have a strong representation due to the fact that UCC and NUIG are still involved Kilkenny's representation stands up pretty favourably to any of the other hurling strongholds with Conor Delaney, John Donnelly, Billy Ryan, Sean Morrissey, James Bergin, Ed Delaney with DCU. Darren Mullen and Evan Shefflin would also be part of the set up but for their club commitments and Colum Prenderville but for injury. And Conor Browne with UCC.

Should be a good match in thurles great players on both teams it will go down to the wire its hard one to call.

Will be very surprised if Balyhale don’t win this with a bit to spare. Ballygunner have come up short so many times in Munster it’s hard to see them beating such a seasoned team in a game like this.

Ballygunner will be well prepared and will have no fear of the Shamrocks, Don't forget they have beaten the best club team in the country in Na Piarsaigh. I'd be surprised if Ballygunners hunger doesn't see them over the line.

    A seasoned team?

Evan Shefflin, both Mullens, Eoin Cody, Brian Cody, Ronan Corcoran and a chap in goal off the top of my head. Half the team only won their first county title in October.

Slightly on this topic,if there is anyone from the Danesford club on here, they should start closing their gates. I pass the club maybe 10/15 times a week sometimes after midnight, and every time the gates are wide open. It's the cultural crowd taking over the car park that I do be thinking about, not this mindless shîť.

Great performance by Ballyhale in woeful conditions

Mick Fennelly super in the second half
Thought Darren Mullen and Paddy Mullen were very good as well

    Much the better team

delighted for joey he is still one of best club men at number 3.Coughlan spent his night pulling and draggin colin. Eoin cody looks like he could be the real deal.Tj excellent in the first half but himself and mahony quiter in the 2nd.bhale were that little cuter but it was a tough test for them.

Good win for ballyhale. A few more scoring forwards was the difference. Michael fennelly and Darren Mullen hurled very well in second half. For an 18 year old eoin Cody has incredible composure and confidence. Could see him getting called into the county if he’s stays hurling well with Kieran’s and the u20s in the summer. Was that paddy Mullen’s first start this year thought he hurled fairly well

Who was the ballyhale back that kicked out at the forward as the were running back to goal.?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,428 ✭✭✭Powerhouse

The result was absolutely no surprise but Ballygunner being outscored 1-12 to 0-3 from play is fairly damning.

Gents, if Cillian Buckley is out for the foreseeable, who's best bet at CB for KK ... would Joey Holden do the job there when Shamrocks lads are back?

Mick Fennelly is a God, but I'd say his body is finished with the old inter-county craic. Time for the pipe & slippers.

    Or Mick Fennelly.

With the immobility he showed for long parts of that game today I’d say inter county teams would rub their hands in glee at the thought of it. He did a bit of stand up hurling towards the end but anyone who genuinely thinks he’d survive at inter county is delusional. I even thought he even looked a considerably bigger around the mid-section than a few years back. His brother looks finished as an inter county force too.

Are you calling Mick Fennelly fat? I can categorically tell you he is still in serious nick

Not a hope. Would be cleaned out by a good centre forward.
