Congrats Jezzabelle! I'm due around the same time as you!
I confirmed with my GP this morning and I'm going public in CUMH. I had great care the last time so didn't consider private at all and I live too far away for the Domino scheme. And they're doing the big 20wk scans to almost everyone now but you have to push for it at the booking appointment. Just FYI in case anyone here is going there as well. I didn't get offered one in 2016 so got one done private.

Thanks Ali, big congratulations to you too! I have an appointment with my GP tomorrow. Will most likely go with public in the coombe as its most convenient so reassuring to know you were happy with the care there last time. I've heard good reports from friends too. Didn't realise that re the anomaly scan so thanks for mentioning that! I might consider the Domino scheme as I'm sure I'm in the catchment area and it seems to be what a lot of people are going with.

How are u feeling? I didn't have many symptoms to report but this morning I woke up and felt absolutely wrecked, nearly like I was slightly hungover and I've been nauseous and tired throughout the day. Strangely enough I feel fine now though! Looking forward to having it all confirmed tomorrow😊

Jezzabelle CUMH is Cork maternity hospital not The Coombe. You’ll get an anomaly scan in the Coombe, all the Dublin hospitals do them as standard.

Hi ladies I'm cautiously joining this thread. Found out last week that I'm pregnant with my 3rd and due around 30th December. I already have a 5year old and 2 year old. Digs I think you were in the April 2013 thread also??

I don't think I've fully registered this pregnancy yet at all. No real symptoms apart from boobs feel a bit heavy. Still early! I was very sick with my last pregnancy up until around 20 weeks so hoping it won't be as bad this time.

Ah no way Nead! Congrats! I was in April 13 too alright, she turned 5 this week! I have a June 16 baby aswell. I’m technically due November 29th but went two weeks over on my other pair so hedging my bets for a December baby!
    Hope you’re getting on well!

Got a call from my GP, my TSH is 8.9 and I'm positive for Thyroid Antibodies. She's calling a specialist but if can't get in touch with her starting me on Eltroxin asap. Just something else to worry about

Its probably a shock but when managed well you should be fine. Its a very common condition. Get started on the eltroxin ASAP, don't wait for the consultant. The GP will prescribe it.

Also when you get onto a steady dose and the TSH starts to drop make sure its monitored regularly and tell them the upper limit of the range is lower during pregnancy. A lot of GPs will let the TSH go up near 5 (or even higher) before treating when the upper limit in pregnancy is 2.5. Monitor results of all blood test results yourself, don't just take GPs word for it.

No harm to inform yourself a bit on it before your next appointment. GPs can be a bit too conservative on treatment. Obviously they don't want to tip you over to the hyper side of things which is understandable but there's a balance between that and undertreatment.

Thanks jelly&icecream Thankfully my GP is well versed on the limits in pregnancy. I expect she'll start me today on the eltroxin. Thankfully it was picked up early. Thanks for your advice. Appreciate it.

My April babs turned 5 last week. He was a week early and my 2 year old was 2 weeks early so I'll be interested to see how this one goes!

Don't mind if they come before of after Christmas as long as it's not nearly in the car like last time 😮

Thanks unknowngirl. To be honest I suspected it for a while put like all mammies I put myself on the long finger. I'd been feeling more tired than usual, gained some weight/trouble losing it etc. Planned to sort it out and then the *SURPRISE* pregnancy. It's seemingly a more manageable number so hopefully will resolve quickly.

Is anyone else a blubbering mess? It's like constant PMS the last week. I cried in the toilets at work this morning because I missed my son and wanted to go home. I always miss him but never cry about it!! I hope this passes soon!

dizzymiss I was on Eltroxin during my last pregnancy. You'll be bouncing with energy when your levels go back to normal!

Did it take long to kick in?

    I'm an emotional mess also.

Yep also very emotional. Fluctuating between welling up at everything and being very snappy.

I'm super snappy too, my OH is driving me mad. Hoping it's just the hormones!

Very emotional - crying at a lot of things on the tv lately. I am also extremely tired. Exhausted in fact.

Hello Ladies. I've been having some cramping low down and pain on my left side with some spotting this afternoon. I rang the Dr as I'm really worried. They don't scan out of hours any more so he sent a fax through to the EPU and said I should get a call in the morning. If it gets worse overnight to go to A&E and call him on the way. I'm so worried. In bits.

  • Registered Users Posts: 75 ✭✭ali_d

Oh dizzymiss how worrying for you. But pains and spotting don't mean the worst so keep hoping for your little bean. I'll be thinking of you and sending positive thoughts.

Hi Dizzymiss just popping in from October thread to say I had a very similar experience.

Went to a&e and they did an ultrasound at 6w3d and the Dr could see the heartbeat. She said that implantation bleeding and spotting is very common and that unless you soak through 3-4 sanitary towels it should be nothing to worry about. Of course you wouldn't allow yourself to bleed so heavily before seeking help but I thought this was a helpful 'quantity' for want of a better word.

I also had crippling cramps a couple of weeks later that turned out to be hard stools (sorry for tmi!), despite not having had constipation. Our digestion gets messed around anyway even if not experiencing constipation.

At a private scan at 10w the sonographer explained that the cramps can be caused by the stretching of the womb from the size of your fist to the size of a grapefruit even though baby is still tiny at this early stage. She also said the womb is kind of 'lifting up' out of the pelvis as it stretches which again causes cramps.

I hope all that is somewhat helpful and I really really hope everything works out for you x

P.s. dizzymiss if you are really stressing out and worried just go to a&e, they'll be so kind and understanding. I thought I was overreacting but they never made me feel that way.

I'd just go to a&e.Have had early bleeds on all, I just head in.Doctor can't tell you anything and A&E will refer you on to EPU.

  • Registered Users Posts: 282 ✭✭dizzymiss

EPU is a 9-5 In Galway? They won't do anything for me.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,163 ✭✭✭Nead21

Dizzymiss as others have said cramping and spotting are very normal. Hope you get some reassurance tomorrow at the EPU

That's such a shame. Here in the Coombe the Dr at a&e said she'd scan me and would refer me to the epu if she couldn't see anything as I was so early. Luckily she did see the baby so I didn't need to be referred on. But as a maternity hospital it's standard for them to have the ultrasound at the a&e.

Best of luck when you do go in.
