I'll pick up a bunch of flowers and a bottle of Jacob's Creek from Maxol on the way home. Hopefully that's enough for me to get the leg over later.

Get her a pair of wiper blades as well and it's guaranteed.

We're married 4 years almost, we don't do birthdays, valentines, anniversaries, rarely do Christmas gifts, no mothers day or fathers day.

It sounds awful but we're really good to each other everyday. We cook for each other, he'd buy me flowers regularly, bring me home a box of chocolates, take a day off work and surprise me by taking me out somewhere nice. I'd cook him his favourite dinner, get him his favourite beer, wear sexy clothes and have a bonk on the couch.

beleive it or not perma, its virtually impossible to live outside of the capitalist system in the modern age, it would probably quickly lead to starvation, among-st other things. its perfectly fine to criticise a system and live within it to, many have done it, many continue to do it. capitalism has done some great things for mankind, but it is not the ultimate, it is not the most perfect system we have ever produced, and it actually has the potential to lead to our ultimate demise. i would mirror steve keens opinion on it, capitalism is here to stay no matter what we think, do or say, but i would add, we need to tame this beast, or it will ultimately destroy us. again id agree with deirdre mccloskey, most would chose to live in a capitalist society, including myself, as some of the alternatives simply are just too hard for many different reasons. i would also agree with some commentators, the problem is in fact our form of capitalism, i.e. neoliberialism, i.e it is time for us to try alternative types of capitalism.

I'm sorry but would you ever just shut up about this. You're forever banging on about the perils and pitfalls of capitalism in the most unlikely (and unwanted) of places, but it's the same predictable spiel from the same well-used hymn sheet every single time.

I've lost count of the amount of times people have asked you to explain the alternatives, or to back up some of the previous assertions made, or delve deeper into your vague statements, or why certain viewpoints put forward by experts....but you never do, presumably because you can't, and instead post links to other peoples thoughts, fob it off, repeat what you've already said or ignore it.

It's like your opinion on the topic was gained from one article you read...once, a long time ago, and a few buzz phrases stuck, and now you can't help but repeat them ad naseam all over After Hours whenever the vaguest opportunity arises.

Maybe I'm wrong - maybe you actually contribute significantly to threads over on politics or economic forums where intelligent debate generally thrives, but can you please stop posting about it all over After Hours.

    Bit random but anyway..

My dad was diagnosed with emphysema many years ago. His lungs were no doubt like cobwebs they said, as he couldn't walk more than a few meters without gasping for breath. He had to change his whole life to accommodate this disease that was to be the end of him eventually.

He drove everywhere, even to the shop which was a two minute walk from our house but one day his car was out of order so he took off on foot. In no time at all, he had to sit down on the curb at the side of the road, out of breath and in desperate pain. It was the worst ever, so he called my mam to take him to the hospital.

After lots of tests a doctor came and sat on his bed and said he had good news and bad. He said "The good news is you don't have emphysema. The bad news is you need a double bypass".

He had his heart fixed on Valentine's Day and he got his life back.

That's a pretty good reason to celebrate Valentine's eh? I know he or my mum mark it each year. Whether a card from my mum or flowers from him and they are not the lovey dovey type at all.

That's Valentines sorted and potentially romance for the next few months.

Decent, solid, and Christian. 21-rifle salute here on the way out the door at about 7:45am:

Check out flower prices before during and after today and you will see how its a rip off. A bunch of roses was 29.99 all year round and because of the day involved its now 100 for the same roses.

That's not a scam, that's economics. Supply and demand.

You also don't have to buy them. Simple.

It's not about spending money necessarily. All my gf wants is a card. This morning I got up half an hour earlier and cooked her breakfast in bed and gave her a card and she's delighted. If a 1.99 card helps makes her smile getting up then I'm all for it.

Exactly. A nice, luvvie duvvie-looking three-dollar card with my personal message written on it, and a small box of Lily O'Brien's finest and I'm George Jaysis Clooney for the evening. 'Tis a thing a' nathing, a little bit of fun and slap'n'tickle. Unless you're not getting any hoochie, in which case commercialism, load a' meballix, the Illuminati, yadda-yadda-yadda... :pac:

Me and my wife don't "do" Valentines, and never did Mainly because we first started going out together 2 days before it.

We will however, have a nice meal together. Tonight, i'm making individual beef wellingtons (Gordon Ramsay's recipe) with chips, nice mash and greens. Berry crumble for afters.

I bought a bunch of flowers on a whim there while in tesco, but it is my intention to get my 2 boys to carry these into their mama as if they are from them (they are 2 & 3), and she will be delighted with that.

For someone who doesn't "do" valentines, sounds very much like you're doing valentines.

I also think it's largely a load of bollocks but it's also myself and the missus' anniversary so there's no getting out of this one for aul Foxhound. Still, the steak tonight shall soften the blow of the restaurant bill I hope!

Haha. I got himself an angle grinder.

All I want is to be able to sprawl out on the sofa as opposed to being stuck at one end with his feet on my lap. T’is the little things that make me happy.

And if it takes over €300 worth of gifts to make her happy, who are we to judge.

I'm single so I just don't really go out to day as it's so bloody in your face.

Also remember it's international condom day!
