Achieved all of them - some of them might have been a bit soft in hindsight but i genuinely didn't think so when i set them

5k (sub 24) - new pb 23:33 in May (another 23:3x in June and at least one sub 24 park run in the first half of the year)
10k (sub 51) - ran 49:48 in June in my only 10k race this year
    10m (sub 90) - 86:xx in March and 87:xx in July
    HM (sub 2) - 1:56:xx in June & 1:52:31 in Sept
Marathon: a pb (4:27:09) despite a fairly shocking performance but this wasn't really a goal :p

Amazing year. Shows the benefits of a nicely consistent approach.

I'm going to yoink your PBs coming into 2018 as my goals for 2019 ;)
    5k: Current 24:36
    10k: Current 52:12
    10m: Current 1:30:50

Thanks Huzzah that means a lot, personally I don't think i come near you in terms of consistency! You're going to have a fantastic year in 2019 and will blow those goals out of the water, your meticulous approach and patient positive attitude to your training is phenomenal.

I averaged high 50s, maxed out at about 75miles. I started proper training in late August and had one or two low mileage (about 40) weeks due to work trips

That’s brilliant training it’ll stand to you and there’s a sub3 waiting on you

I've been thinking about these goals a fair bit over the past few days, so here they are:

    1. Continue to run more consistently than this year. This year I was a consistent runner in that I ran all throughout the year, except when I was ill. But I wasn't consistent in the mileage or the type of running I was doing, nor the amounts of days I was doing week-to-week.

I'm going to say YES and NO for this one. I was more consistent than last year, so technically the goal was reached. However, I wasn't as consistent as I had hoped I'd be, so still more work to do on this.

    2. 25:XX 5k - not sure if I have this in me or not, but it's definitely a goal of mine. i have a PB of 26:45 but that was 2016 and I've not gotten under 28mins this year.

No. Didn't come close to this. In fact, didn't even get close to my 2016 PB this year. I think my best 5k this year was around the 28min mark - it may have even been slower.

    3. 56:XX 10k - my current PB is 57:39, so 55mins might be a bit of a stretch.

No. And as above, I didn't even get near the current PB time.

    4. Run 50 parkruns. This Saturday will be my 20th, so if I can squeeze in a NYD double I'll be off to a good start on that one

No. Didn't get to parkrun all summer due to the arrival of a beautiful new puppy and his socialisation classes always clashed with parkrun times. But, these days he comes to parkrun with me and I think we are on 43, so almost there.

    5. Volunteer at parkrun 40 times. This Saturday will be 20 times so another 20 over the next year is definitely doable.

No. For the same reason as above. I am on 24.

    6. Complete at least 2 half marathons. Beating my time of 2.5hrs from August is also a goal, but I really don't see how I could be any worse than that (famous last words maybe, heh)

Yes! I completed 4 HMs in total this year, with the best time being 2:11 - so far better than my time of 2.5hrs last year.

    7. To have a better winter next year than I did this year. I don't know what happened this winter. I was going really well until about mid-Nov and then I went into total hibernation mode, eating less, sleeping more, staying indoors.

Yes. Winter training going very well - very consistent and regular.

Not many targets hit this year but still enjoying it and that's the main thing.

Realize I missed this last year. Gonna try and approach this as a performance review and something specific enough that it is measurable

    Mileage - 3000 (This year to date - 3055)
Simple fact that this is a target is with a new baby come April maintaining mileage will be sign that I have managed it well

    Performance
    - PB's - 10k, HM, Marathon - (current PBs: 34.10/1.16.01/2.43.01)
    Bronze - 1% improvement,
    Silver - 2% improvement,
    Gold - 5% improvement

    Competition
    - 2 Championships gold medals (Dublin/Leinster/All Ireland) - (Currently 1 from 2017)
    - Top 10 Dublin Intermediate XC (Best previous performances - 11th, 13th)

    Coaching
    - 24 PB's achieved (from 11 athletes)
    - 3 >5% improvement PB's (largest in 2017 - 17.5%/10 min over 10k)
    - 2 CountyProvincial/National Championship medals ( 2 achieved in 2017)
    - 1 Outright Podium Finish (1 Race win in 2017)

    Time to update this.

From a personal perspective a year of two halves

Mileage went out the window and Marathon didn't happen but Did manage decent PB over the HM (1.16.01 to 1.14.48) and knocking on the door of my 10k PB (34.14 SB vs 34.10 PB)

Did manage a Leinster Team Gold and Dublin Senior Individual Bronze.

From a coaching perspective however a better year so the athletes really dug me out of a hole

PB's was definitely met (at 1/2 year had 5 more than target with 29 PB's though I took on a few more athletes from there so I feel the rougly +40 Pb's was in line with target)

Some of the biggest PB Improvements (for the target goal)

    Runner A
    HM - 1.25 to 1.18
    Marathon - 3.02 to 2.47

    Runner B
    HM - 1.31 to 1.19

    Runner C
    10m - 1.15 to 1.03

Medals - 2 county medals, 1 provincial, 1 All Ireland medal

Podium finishes - 3rd place outright

No. Just two sub 30 minute parkruns this year, though most were much, much slower, especially towards the end of the year.

Yes! 50th run in June. Not too difficult a challenge to achieve though since I was already on 36 up to the end of last year.

Also got my 25th volunteer achievement in October, but that's more of a testament to how little I was running as I was able to volunteer so much. I had only 9 up to the end of last year.

Not even close! A rough estimate of 500km tops.

No injuries. Didn't enjoy it, hence the lapse in the middle of the year. Back to enjoying it more now though.

Very sadly no. Not exactly back to square one, but a bit of a slog back to where I should be nonetheless.

I could have just not responded to my review, but hopefully seeing it all in black and white will give me the kick in the arse I need not to let the same thing happen next year.

HM - Plan on having a go at this PB in March. 1.22.04 on this very course in 2015.
Marathon - Will have a go at 2.55

    The rest... we'll see.

    1 Good. 1 Bad

Got the Half down to 1.21.06

Heat did for Stockholm and injuries did for Autumn.

Did one 10k and didn't get near PB.

    Still though, that Half!!!

Pretty poor year for me on the racing front, but I did run a HM PB in April and I managed to achieve my A-goal of running a marathon in September. I'd an amazing experience and wouldn't change it for the world - but next year will see some more concrete goals.

Managed one of four, a very low key IMRA race which was still a very hard won race!
3 of the 2018 goals will be the same for 2019 and I will give up on the notion of 4 runs a week, just not feasible with the amount of cycling I like to do.

With a lot of physio over the last couple of months and strength training it seems to be finally getting a bit better (up to 1.75 miles now, may even go for 2 this weekend!).
If I can do a 10k and maybe even a half this year I'd be over the moon.
My wife is doing the womens mini marathon for the first time and its pure torture watching her training.

My names Supercell and I'm a recovering runaholic :)

Looking back to where I was when I wrote this and where I am now is pretty amazing. I was in a pretty bad place both mentally and physically after the car accident and didnt even know if I would ever be able to run a race again.

Fast forward to now and have ran multiple half marathon plus distances in training and races over the year.
My knee is an ongoing thing which I need to be mindful of always but it's manageable.
I didn't quite manage the marathon this year but came close to doing it..see 2019 goals thread.

Overall delighted to still call myself a runner (ok hobby jogger) rather than a couch potato, next year herself will be running a 10k with me :)

Hope all you all had equally happy running memories and achievements for 2018, sometimes it really isn't about winning, it's about getting to the starting line that counts!

    My 2018 goals are:
    1. Sub 48min 10k
    2. Sub 1hr45mins half marathon
    3. Sub 4hr marathon.

    1. Never actually raced 10k in the end. Got a 10k record of 48:08 during a half marathon so probably would've hit that target had I raced 10k. Oh well.

    2. Ran 1:44:11 in the Dublin half marathon. My running highlight of the year and probably favourite race ever. Loved every minute of it.

    3. Nope. Thought I was well on track but injury struck 4 weeks out and couldn't run for over 3 weeks. Was advised not to attempt sub-4 and take it easy so at least I salvaged a PB of 4:17:08. Was desperately disappointed.

A very up and down year overall. Fell badly & split my knee open and (possibly) broke my nose during a run in March. Got a long-awaited 5k PB of 22:40 in December. But still trying to shake an injury at the moment so feel like all my fitness is gone. Guess I'll do it all again in 2019:)

    5k - 19:30 (PB of 19:55)
    5mile - sub 33mins (PB of 35:13)
    HM - 1hr 35mins (PB of 1hr 39mins)

5k - equalled my PB and ran a few in and around that time but no lower. Didn't do any 5k specific training...maybe next year
5 mile - I only ran one, 33:55, a PB but not quite what I wanted
HM - ran a PB in February, 1hr38min52sec. Only tried one more in September, fell apart in the 2nd half and pretty much summed up the last 3rd of the year for me - lower mileage and unmotivated.

I took part in the Belfast 24 at the end of June as a member of a relay team - (2hrs on / 6hrs off) x 3. This wasn't part of the plan for the year - I filled in for someone who had to pull out due to injury about a month out so I had very little prep time. I managed 41 miles in the 6 hrs and really enjoyed the experience but I think I paid for it in the latter part of the year as I didn't give myself enough/any recovery time (July was my mileage peak of the year).
I've had a good rest this month and looking forward to getting into some structured training in January.

    I'll unashamedly rob the idea.

    - Run 220 km in a 24 hrs race in 2018, venue TBD.

Only one goal. It worked in 2014. Nothing else matters, indeed.

I wasn't even going to open the thread ever again. Ah, what the hell.

Nope, didn't get it. In fact, worlds away and not even close, and realistically it was never on the cards.

Goal for 2019 is to age gracefully and not slow down by much more, I guess

And learned a lot, a hell of a lot this year.

Will have run over 2,100km and 170 hours by year’s end.

Left the 60km to the side to focus on marathon PB.

    1. 19:25 and 19:12. The only 2 5k I raced. BHAA and Bob Heffernan.

    2. It's not for me...well it's not for me in a gym environment. I'll try it at home just using bodyweight exercises.

    3. 1:33:20 in my worst race of the year which included 2 bits of walking. It's my target distance for 2019 as a result.

Main goal is sub 3 Marathon in Rotterdam. PB 3:15:26

After that I reckon (hope) almost all of my PBs are there for the taking.

5k: Sub 18. Will actually have to run a 5k race for the first time to do this obviously, 18:58 PB from my solitary Parkrun in 2016.

5m: Sub 30. 30:55 PB from Raheny just gone. Reckon this is there for me right now, hopefully going to run Ferrycarraig 5 in the New Year and knock this off the list.

10k: Sub 37. Ran a 37:52 10k split in a 12k race a couple of weeks back. 37 seems the next logical step.

10m: Sub 62. Running Trim in Feb so will have a rattle there first. PB of 65:55 is pretty soft.

Half: Sub 1:24 Would hope to go lower but that's a number that hits a lot of targets for me. PB of 1:25:55 from Tullamore this year when I had an iffy enough day at office.

Whilst I re-evaluated a couple of goals mid year, it's always nice to look back at how original goals stacked up to performances.

    5k: 18:58 >> 18:52

Sub 18 didn't happen. Tried to force it inbetween marathon blocks and ended up running a very disheartening 18:52. Ran an 18:17 split in Frank Duffy.....Not in too much of a hurry to run another 5k at the moment!

    5 Mile: 30:55>>29:51

Didn't run Raheny or Ferrycarraig but went 29:59 in Army 5 Miler around Baldonnell on a horrendous day, and ran 29:51 in the Irish Runner 5 Mile the week after the aforementioned fluffed 5k. Ran a 29:07 5Mile tempo last week though :)

    10k: No PB.

Didn't happen. Only one 10k in there where i ran 39:09 in a local 10k a couple of weeks into Rotterdam training block. Clocked a 37:15 10k split in Frank Duffy....I hope to fix this New Years Day :)

    10 Mile: 65:55>>60:33

Posted a 62:27 in Trim In February and then a 60:33 at the Frank Duffy, which was a good day to be fair :)

    Half Marathon: 1:25:55>>1:19:59

Overcame some shoelace malfunctions to squeak under 80mins. This was my highlight of the year, had to bite down and go for it over the last 5 miles when things were in the melting pot. I also ran a 1:22:33 time trial in the PP before Rotterdam.

    Marathon: 3:15:26>>2:58:01

Rotterdam was a 3:14 dehydrated death shuffle....which was rescued by a 2:59:45 shot to nothing in Limerick 4 weeks later. 2:58 In Dublin was a little disappointing but still delighted to have gone sub 3 and PB'd again.

Will end up having ran just over 4500km. Will hope to maybe push this to 3000 Miles next year but that's not particularly a target. All in all a great year :) hopefully next year will be as kind.

Healy, that's a shocking 5k time!! Unless you're a diesel man of course. As for the 1.22.xx time trial, jeez that's impressive. The Half is a very good time and I'm sure the Full will come into line soon enough. You have a good attitude to training and recovery so with just another bit of experience and base you should do well.

Just don't listen to the "you'll smash it" merchants.

The 5k attempt was probably ill advised, i wasn't recovered after the two marathons. And by ill advised, I mean I took no advice. I checked out mentally about 1k in :o I was paced around the PP for the half time trial, so it wasn't solo as such. I just had to follow my really fast mate who lent a helping hand and jogged around with me. Looking forward to the new year :)
