A pb at any of the standard distances would do just fine.

    10k 33mins
    1/2 Marathon 1.12
    Marathon 2.35

    Marathon: <3:00 (PB 3:09:17)
    Half Marathon: <1:25 (PB 1:26:40)
    10k: <40 (PB 41:19 on a hilly course)
    5k PB (<19:17)

Recover better, train smarter. Maybe do a few more shorter races than this year.

2017 should set me up nicely for 2018, haven't been this excited about my running in a long time.

The Half is in April and it's a big target, I've been working fairly hard to achieve it, the one that most excites me though is the 800 and 1500 but I've been saying that for years now without doing anything about it. Racing the NIA Live mile has been the first step.

    Nutrition and S&C
Both are a massive weakness and I feel this is where I can make time gains.

2000 mile target for the year
1500 for 2017, 1400 of which has been from April on.
Continue to run every day till April 9th which will mean 365 days of running.

Full track season and try a 400M
If I was a juvenile athlete, I would be all over the 400m/800m and 1500m. I believe that's where my strengths are, could be interesting to find out if I'm right.

    Race the Dublin Novice XC
I raced it only once and that was in 2008 and I dropped out on the last lap, would like to correct that, albeit 10 years later.

My primary goal for 2018 is to run my first marathon. And, while I wouldn't quite say that nothing else matters, all other goals will be secondary.

Make 12 people smile every day
    stop callin burds burds
Get dat fockin monkey off me back
    Finish dat bikey/paddley/runny race
    Do few more Mountain runs
    Stay under 78kgs
learn how to fix a puncture
    Do a OW swim race

    1) Get past the 100 mile mark at Belfast 24hr
    2) Sub 10:00 for 100k (currently 10:37) . Probably Spartans Way in April

    That's it for 2018.

I have to try not to get distracted by the shorter races and keep my training mileage up.
All going well, I might have a crack at my Marathon PB (3:27) in the Autumn.

    1. To not get injured like I did before DCM again, ever....
    2. Half PB down to 1:30 or as close to as possible.
    3. Full down to 3:30, I know I can do it as long as I put the miles in and stay injury free.
    4. Sub 18 5k, dont care when in 2018 but would love it.
    5. Sub 40 10k, havent raced a 10k since Fingal!!

And as a lot have said, enjoy running as much as I have this year, more so in the warmer months :pac:

Realize I missed this last year. Gonna try and approach this as a performance review and something specific enough that it is measurable

    Mileage - 3000 (This year to date - 3055)
Simple fact that this is a target is with a new baby come April maintaining mileage will be sign that I have managed it well

    Performance
    - PB's - 10k, HM, Marathon - (current PBs: 34.10/1.16.01/2.43.01)
    Bronze - 1% improvement,
    Silver - 2% improvement,
    Gold - 5% improvement

    Competition
    - 2 Championships gold medals (Dublin/Leinster/All Ireland) - (Currently 1 from 2017)
    - Top 10 Dublin Intermediate XC (Best previous performances - 11th, 13th)

    Coaching
    - 24 PB's achieved (from 11 athletes)
    - 3 >5% improvement PB's (largest in 2017 - 17.5%/10 min over 10k)
    - 2 CountyProvincial/National Championship medals ( 2 achieved in 2017)
    - 1 Outright Podium Finish (1 Race win in 2017)

    This thread got me thinking...

6 "A" races in mind for next year...
Goal 1: Get at least 1 good performance out of the 6
Goal 2: Try not to pull out of any of them due to stupid injuries, unlike 2017.
Goal 3: Take advantage of my new age category where the opportunity arises. Looks like the main target for this will be the UTMB, where an age category podium could be within range if I can achieve goal 2.
Goal 4: Try to make as few feck ups as possible through the whole process of my one "A+" race, whilst enjoying the whole process to the max. That sounds pretty bizarre, but given the nature of the race it makes a lot of sense.
Goal 5: try and do more incidental racing, particularly getting to more IMRA races this year, for the sheer enjoyment of it.

A FKT on The Ireland way would be one for you.
Curious to see who gives it a shot first.

2:55 marathon ultimate goal. Will try in may and again in dcm if unsuccessful.
2017 yielded a sum total of zero races dude to inward growing verruca, no running for 4 months.
2018 will be different. In spring I want to do 3 HM and the 2:55 then reassess for autumn.
    10k sub 37
    10m sub 60
    HM sub 1:23
Would be delighted to get pbs

Not going to set any time targets this season, for the first time in my athletics life. Last season went perfectly to plan. All the cards fell the right way. No distractions re weddings, stags, life. I managed huge consistency across a 10 month time frame, and was hitting 5 days a week almost every week. I got perfect conditions too the day I needed to. I didn’t even pick up a cold. It couldn’t have gone any smoother.

This year there are a rake of weddings and stags and other life events. Half my outdoor season is gone, and both National indoors and national outdoors are gone, which is where I have run most of my current PBs and which seem to bring out the best in me. I’ve been averaging only 4 days a week this winter. Training has still been good, but not at the level of last year.

I don’t expect to beat my PBs. But I also love sprinting, and really enjoy the training on the track with the group. So my goals are more vague this year:

    1) Enjoy my training and racing, which is hugely important if one wants to stay at this in the medium/long term.
    2) Race as much as I realistically can over 60m, 100m and 200m
    3) Run to a level I am happy with
    4) Run one meet in Belgium and perform strongly there

If I break any of my PBs it will be a bonus. It could happen (more likely indoors), I’m just not going to expect it this season.

Have to save something for 2019

    1) Keep running. I would love to double my milage for 2017 of 1000km ish. But I'll take what I get.
    2) Sub 18 running for 5km with a target of 17:30 ish
    3) Sub 30 8km but not planning much races over 5k.

Not so much goals but things I want to do.
    (i) Continue to help out behind the scenes with my club, marshal duty, C25k couching, etc.
(ii) Try and get a XC senior team at our club, no interest for it at the moment.

Thinking newry lad. It's my local run but support not great. What about you?

Get back running after baby arrives in January. Hoping I can start by mid Feb, ease into 5k distance with parkruns. Go back to running club sessions once per week. Need to lose the baby weight fast so will clean up my craving-ridden pregnancy diet.

Aim for 10k in May/WMM early June.
    Louisburgh HM September.
Enter a few 5k/5mile throughout the year.

I have a deferral entry for connemarathon half but it's in April so not sure how realistic that is. I'll just see how I'm feeling and how the fitness is coming along in late March.

Not too fussed on times, just want to get distance fitness back next year, avoiding injury and will take it from there.

Main goal is sub 3 Marathon in Rotterdam. PB 3:15:26

After that I reckon (hope) almost all of my PBs are there for the taking.

5k: Sub 18. Will actually have to run a 5k race for the first time to do this obviously, 18:58 PB from my solitary Parkrun in 2016.

5m: Sub 30. 30:55 PB from Raheny just gone. Reckon this is there for me right now, hopefully going to run Ferrycarraig 5 in the New Year and knock this off the list.

10k: Sub 37. Ran a 37:52 10k split in a 12k race a couple of weeks back. 37 seems the next logical step.

10m: Sub 62. Running Trim in Feb so will have a rattle there first. PB of 65:55 is pretty soft.

Half: Sub 1:24 Would hope to go lower but that's a number that hits a lot of targets for me. PB of 1:25:55 from Tullamore this year when I had an iffy enough day at office.

The Ireland Way, or Slí na hEireann in Gaelic, is a walking/cycling route 900 km/500 miles long which begins in the rugged south-west coast of Ireland in the small fishing village of Castletownbere and ends in the north coast of Northern Ireland, just past the famous Giants Causeway. Along The Ireland Way you will explore seven mountain ranges, woodland, farmland, bogland, coasts, rivers and lakes across Ireland and Northern Ireland.

    1) Carryover from last year, break 60 minutes for 10 miles.
    2) Cork half marathon. Have done it a few times before but never as a target race. Current pb is 1.21.00.
    3) Marathon in Eindhoven in October.
    4) One race every month

    Also get married.
