Interesting to note that English Premiership Rugby is live on Terrestrial TV over in the UK on Saturday. Northampton v Quinn's.
    Channel 5.

Got the Lions tour doc from a link on rugby subreddit earlier and gave it a watch there this afternoon.

Haven't seen the end yet but it's possibly not as good as the last one. Certainly not as funny but some good insights into the conversations between the players. Farrell and Sean O'Brien come out of it quite well in terms of their relationships with the squad. Rory Best to me looks like the real tour leader over Warburton, he's very much involved and talks well.

All in all though a worthwhile watch, even if not as thick with the laughs as the last one. One scene has Best discussing the second all Blacks game from last autumn in the Aviva, seems very much to suggest that the players felt NZ came out to do damage and they were frustrated not to return the favour.

After the second Lions Test the entire squad sang the Fields of Athenry led by Sexton. Was a great thing to see and fair ****s to the Lions for getting the squad to learn songs from each of the donor teams.

24-0 now. Saints players obviously havent realised Jim Mallinder is gone and they can start playing rugby again :)

31-0. TBP. Saints players allowing Care under the posts practically untouched. Quins could hit 60 or 70 points here.

Believe it or not it’s apparently the first time an English domestic club rugby game has ever been shown live on terrestrial TV. Pity it was a blow out, more or less.

Exeter 14 points up against Leicester at the moment, they've been pretty comfortable all game. Conditions are bad enough and it's been a poor game, first half especially was dire.

BP win for Exeter in the end. Leicester really are awful.

30-6 in the end. Ouch. Yeah, Leicester are 9th in the Premiership at the moment. Just one spot ahead of Saints and one below Sale. They’ve played most of their tough games but still have Sarries and Bath away as well as Wasps at home. They’ll probably move up the league a couple of places by the end of the season but I don’t see them in the play offs at this rate. They should make Europe though.

Can someone tell me if you dropkick the ball into touch from play is it considered to be out on the full?

George North now injured and a doubt for the start of the 6 nations. I don't think he makes a first choice Wales team at the moment anyway to be honest but the injuries are mounting for them...

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,831 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

The injuries Wales have suffered in the backs are bad enough with Davies being a huge loss in particular. But their injuries in the forwards are calamatous. Warburton is out for the entire 6N and Faletau isn't expected back until the final rounds. Ross Moriarty is still in recovery from injury and Lydiate picked up an injury over the weekend. An entire backrow and replacements have either been ruled out entirely or aren't expected to play a part in the opening rounds of the Six Nations.

I am in the middle of a series of podcast interviews detailing out coaching techniques, tactical shapes and in game discussion for the new Major League Rugby in the USA. The competition has the financial backing to make it a major player in a few years so they need to engage the supporter base and educate them a bit more about the game and the intricacies, which is where these interviews hopefully come in. The first one is a short intro to the modern game and what it's like, next is 242, we will be covering 1331 this friday, 1322 next week and then into defence or counter attack shapes and structures. Will also be doing athlete based environments vs coach based, games vs drills. Anyway I'd appreciate any feedback

    1) Basic overview of the modern game

    2) expanding on 242, how to coach it, weaknesses etc.

I'm sure this has been posted somewhere else but it's worth posting again just because Murray Kinsella is back http://www.the42.ie/analysis-leinster-james-lowe-magic-3780733-Jan2018/?utm_source=shortlink

We don't practise the kind of prop racism in the Pro14 that's rampant in the Top14.

Interesting how far back scrum halfs are in the pecking order in the Top 14.

I'm really skeptical of those Pro14 rankings.

    Fullbacks the highest paid??

A number of the highest profile players in the league are full backs. I'd have no problem believing that Halfpenny is the highest paid player in Wales, Hogg is the highest paid player in Scotland and Piutau is the highest paid player in Ireland.

What's the 4A, 4B etc lark all about?

Tightheads are further down the ranking than I would have expected.

I saw somewhere that it doesn’t take into account Furlongs new contract and by next year fullbacks will be much lower and tightheads higher just due to Piutau going and Furlong upgrading

I'm guessing that they consider locks and wingers to be two players in the same position and have just called them A and B to denote that there's a highest paid lock/winger and then a second highest paid lock/winger?

Surprised to see hookers so lowly paid, overall, given they're a specialist position.

I also would have expected scrum halves to be more highly paid in France. With that said, I suppose it's highly influenced by what positions are occupied by foreign signings and most scrum halves playing in the T14 are French.

    Fair point.

Scrum halves are a dime a dozen in France.
    Out halves... not so much

    Especially given Laidlaw's ridiculous salary.

The stats are based on the highest paid 15 in each squad. So for example Jonny Sexton's counts towards the average, Ross Byrne's doesn't. 4A is the highest paid Lock in squad, 4B is the second highest paid lock in a squad.
