Blackrock 1-20 St. Finbarrs 1-11 FT. only listening on the radio but it seems the Barrs had a large amount of wides, particularly in the 1st half

Off to Ballinlough in a while to see if Delaneys can win the JAFC and then the big one. I'm expecting it will be every bit as competitive as last week but Dublin are the clear favourites. We will have to play at our very best to beat them but we are capable of doing it.
Bookies have Dublin at 2/5 Cork 5/2, clear favourites but I do think it will be close.

It’s a joke typical cork co board having games on today while the ladies are on the all Ireland

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 32,685 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

It really is a joke, but not very surprising either.
Nice crowd in páirc uí Rinn aswell for the hurling, UCC v Sars

Delanys win our 3rd city JAFC final in 4 years, 3-12 v 0-09 again St. Michael's, a very good start to the sporting day!

It will be interesting to see the attendance today, Cork folk travelling 2 weeks in a row and of course the Ladies mini marathon that just finished in the glorious sunshine.

    11 gone 2 a piece , dubs look a little slicker.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,504 ✭✭✭The White Feather

Dublin are being very aggressive in their tackling and its really working well for them. Their defence isnt leavng anything past without a fight.

That first goal for Dublin is crucial but Cork won't give up easy.We have seen this happen before where teams come out all guns blazing against Cork but Corks power wins through in the end. Hopefully this happens today

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 32,685 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

    Ht Cork 1-05 dubs 2-06

Dubs have their tactics spot on, having the centre back position very well populated. Cork cannot find a way through. Áine took the pass from the DUB defender and the finish was absolutely top class, we needed that.

We need to start kicking from further out. Our defence are playing well.

Number 8 for Dublin is running the show, their second goal came from another loose pass by cork.

Scally needs to get into the game more.

If Dublin pull away more we will see a game of keep ball for most of the second half.
    Enjoyable first half.

    Great attendance, 35k in 16, 46k in 17 and now 50,141.

That really is some achievement. Obviously helped with the dubs in the final again.

Saoirse Noonan on already at ht. Coppinger off

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,504 ✭✭✭The White Feather

Awful decision of a free there against Cork even though it was missed

These ladies games refs are always bad for both teams

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 32,685 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

Some very good defending by cork being undone by the ref giving 2 dubious frees in a row, they score from 1.

Got it back to a point, then they score their 3rd.
4 down with about 10 to go

    Ft Cork 1-12 v Dublin 3-11

Deserving win. We played very well, especially the defence. We ran down too many dead ends in the first half in particular.
We needed all 15 to play well from the beginning but it wasn't to be. A real pity Noonan didn't receive more ball as she could have done damage.
We've had a very long run at the top table but 5 finals in a row and now back to back wins for Dublin is surely the sign that they could well go on a winning run like what cork did.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,504 ✭✭✭The White Feather

Congrats to Dublin! Dublin were just a bit better on the day.

A lot of their defensive tackling bordered on fouls but they had good tactics keeping a lot of bodies in the centre back position as ShamoBuc says

Ref was poor as usual in these ladies games.

A most enjoyable 90 minutes on tg4 watching the documentary on Cora Staunton, one of the very best ladies footballers.
It charted her first season down under, the trials and tribulations of learning the basics, the rules etc from scratch as a 36 year old. It was a most enjoyable show and clearly shows how determined and focused a person she is.

It's a real pity the whole Carnacon fiasco is how she will finish with Mayo, but such is life.

I was at the CIT vs Castlehaven replay. It was a very enjoyable game, very little loading of the defence and some great scores. I had a relation on the CIT panel, but I'd say over half on the CIT panel were from outside cork. David Clifford brother was playing.

We had to bring on a 61-year-old to make up the numbers... Redmonds chairman explains why one of Cork's oldest clubs is going out of existence

Lot of Cork GAA history gone

    Ballinure also folding apparently

Ballinure, Redmonds Lough Rovers, clubs that in the last few decades were never awash with spare players, so once there was any kind of a decline it was always going to be hard to keep going.

Redmonds and Lough are no longer really in residential areas, now commercial mostly.
Different story with Ballinure, their problem is that they're completely overshadowed by the rockies.
