I'm sorry but this typical of the way that people use a subject as a stick to beat an unpopular person over the head with. None of George's daughters are of the age to get the HPV, so he has no skin in the game. He was simply acting as a conduit for the messages of parents with kids who had been damaged by the vaccine. My point on this has always been - Why are people not targeting George Hook on this issue. Why are they not targeting Jonathan Irwin? Is it just easier to attack George Hook because he is unpopular, rather than Jonathan Irwin who would be very popular (given the nature of his organisation).

As soon as Newstalk found out that Jonathan Irwin was friends with Pat Hickey, they got him on to discuss that. But they never had him on to discuss what happened with his daughter. Why? Maybe because it was easier for them to say that all people who claim to have a problem with the HPV are "nutjobs" like George Hook, rather than listen to a highly respected businessman and father speaking about his problems with the HPV? I always get worried when the Government departments put their hands over their ears and shout "you're wrong, you're wrong, you're wrong".
Citing numerous studies and research ( proper scientific ones, not groups of parents who want something to blame on an issue with their kids and are far too invested to see reason) that back up the research that girls with the vaccine have the same levels of the issues the parents blame on it as those without the vaccine is not covering their ears. What do you think the use should do, ignore the evidence and say "do you know what, **** scientific evidence, let's just go with what a small group of random people think"
Is there any other area of the country we should just let a couple of hundred people with no education on a subject decide things for us?

Totally agree. Not a single one linked to the vaccine. Not a single case linked to the vaccine worldwide.

My friend while living here didn't get her daughter vaccinated due to the Facebook nonsense. She was one of these nutjobs. She moved from Ireland & the fake news to Australia where they have been giving this vaccine for years. She's there a year now & her daughter has been vaccinated. You'd have to look up the figures yourself but there's a huge fall off in cancer rates due to the vaccine. Many lives have already been saved

They showed figures proving that these "side effects" happen to the exact same percentage of teenage girls with or without the vaccine. They showed her that the same proportion of teenage girls suffered from these "side effects" before the vaccine was even invented. They shower her reports from the WHO. She decided to search for herself & couldn't find a single case WORLDWIDE that a doctor linked to the vaccine. Not a single one.

The youtube video above is produced by VAXXED. They are against all vaccines. Imagine trying to link Autism to a vaccine. Autism has been with us since the begining of time yet it's linked to something barley out 100 years!

The only explanation for the above is that they must have made her stand up a compulsory course in the gender studies faculties.

I like her accent. I wouldn't give her the show either but I can actually listen when she fills in for Ciara Kelly.

Can't say the same about this fella today. He comes across even more smug than Ciara. Why invite guests and callers if you are just going to condescend and talk over them?

Speaking of Doc, has anybody used that VideoDoc App that sponsors the show?

You can roll your eyes all you want, smart a$$, my point is that none of the people who tackled / criticised / ridiculed George Hook over this topic were prepared to tackle Jonathan Irwin on the same topic. They picked the soft target. Jonathan Irwin maintains that his daughter was injured by this vaccine. He said that she was in perfect health until she got the vaccine and then was ill immediately afterwards. So, why doesn't Ciara Kelly bring Jonathan Irwin on the show and call him deluded in the same dismissive way that she speaks of all the "emotional terrorists"?

And on Richard Chambers today, he was ridiculously childish and petty. I normally find him one of the least offensive stand-in liberal-bots that they have at Newstalk Towers, but today he was ruder than Joe Duffy. Conor Lenihan was on. Now I have no time for Conor Lenihan. But he was brought on to make a point about Russia and how the Government are making decisions without any evidence. Chambers spoke over him, cut him off, and eventually said goodbye to him in mid-sentence - just because he didn't like what Lenihan was saying. Then he did the same to another caller. Didn't like what the caller was saying so gave him the "we're out of time" line and cut him off. The broadcasting equivalent of "taking your football and running away with it".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 596 ✭✭✭Conservative

    That's the one.

He asked Lenihan about Putin and his popularity in Russia. When he (expectedly) didn't get the answer he liked he went off on a minute long prepared diatribe on Putin and Russia..

You'd think Lenihan was the Russian ambassador or something.

He later cut him off mid sentence when he politely mentioned that he wouldn't be given time to address any of the stuff that was brought up as it wasn't the point of the interview.

He then got the huff with the next caller who rightly asked if he would allow him to finish a sentence.

Jonathan Healy takes some beating but this guy managed it today.

Gutted Ciara wasn't on today im sure she could have found multiple ways to put her foot in it and get sued for defamation and libel regarding that court case

She was one of the people who signed a letter to newstalk management that demanded action on George iirc.

This famous letter was instigated by a current long serving presenter. The letter was mostly signed by backroom staff including producers.

One of these producers was cast as the "ringleader" for this letter. The presenter never owned up to this and AFAIK still hasn't.

This led to some issues for the producer in question.

Ah come on. Please tell us more. I'd love to know the full story. I thinking Moncrieff and his producer missus?

I would have thought that the Dill cailin would be a better bet. Especially as she was let go afterwards and she was a long term presenter.

It was interesting that George stopped thanking his production team after the letter episode.

I remember a poster here claimed to have inside knowledge that GH wasn't well liked by lower tier staff in NT as he treated them poorly. One of my neighbours runs a restaurant that George frequents and she only has nice things to say about him.

He has done more to establish NT than anybody.

Did Dill really have any influence considering that she presented a minor programme on a Saturday night when no one was around. She was actually sacked for refusing to do her job until Hook was fired. Would still be very suspicious of Moncrieff considering his attitude to feminist subjects on his show. There also used to be a thinly discuised antipathy between them when Hook would hand over to Moncrieff after his lunchtime show.

She wasn't sacked, the show was discontinued. End result is the same but the facts are relevant.

OK. "Discontinued" is a more technically accurate description of the same thing.
