This from a right wing site

Bernie Sanders is a democratic socialist, i pretty sure he's not a Nazi ( if you referring to the video channel?)

Mass murder myths if you google are found often on sites owned by American business people. They are the people who support the republican party and watch Fox news.

You would need to be an absolute lunatic to not believe the mass genocide of the Jewish people during WW2. Anyone denying it never explains how so many people just disappeared, the photos showing bodies piled up on top of one another, the huge pits full of bodies, ovens with skeletons in them and so on.

It's the most stupid denial of a historical reality ever.
Not to mention the huge amount of detailed eyewitness accounts.

Regarding Mao, people would do well to stop grabbing stuff off of the internet, as if simply being online was some indication of reliability, and take a look at some real scholarship.

    As starting points I'd suggest

    • People's China: A Brief History by Craig Dietrich Oxford University Press -- a short but reliable overview.
    • Mao's Last Revolution by Roderick MacFarquhar Belknap Press of Harvard University Press -- a more comprehensive history.

To cut to the chase, Mao simply lost control of the forces he unleashed in the cultural revolution, resulting in much loss of life and other bad stuff.

Watch the video. The guy has researched the topic and you learn the truth. If you want to believe the crazy American right, is correct that's on you.

    What research has he done?

You decry a Dutch Historian who was given unprecedented access to Chinese Communist files from the period, speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese and lives in Hong Kong and lectures extensively on the subject of China.

    Why?

Is it because he paints Mao for what he was. A psychopath.

This lad is beyond arguing with. He's the worlds greatest scholar of Chinese History, based on a video from youtube. All his patchy biased "evidence" is, in his eyes, totally objective and unquestionable and he can't find anything to refute it - even though Google is...right...there.

Critical thinking my arse. You are brainwashed.

Go to China. Mention Taiwan. Say something bad about Mao. Try getting on any internet fora. See what happens.

My daughter has actually been there, so I have first hand experience of this.

Watch the video. The guy has researched the topic and you learn the truth. If you want to believe the crazy American right, is correct that's on you. Chinese scholars and historians do not see Mao as a mass murderer.

    You can't really believe this.

I have a colleague who's a Chinese historian, by which I mean that she's both Chinese by birth and has Chinese history as her chief research area. She's the one who recommended to me the two books I mentioned a few posts back.

She would find your claim amusing.

I'd also recommend Mao's Great Famine; The Story of China's Most Devastating Catastrophe by Frank Dikötter

The big lesson from both left and right is if you go too far unquestioning in either direction, some ass will hijack it and make it into a brutal dictatorship, with free speech, pulling down statues (cough) and burning books the first things to go. If there are things you "cannot" say then you are on the road to that future.

I'd also recommend Mao's Great Famine; The Story of China's Most Devastating Catastrophe by Frank Dikötter

Yang Jisheng a Independant Chinese scholar disagrees with Frank Dikötter and even calls him out and rubbished the claims he made.

    https://insideoutchina.blogspot.ie/2011/12/yang-rebuts-dikotter-on-famine-research.html

Frank Dikötter also had to change the original book cover when it was discovered he was using a picture from 1946 and was using it to depict a starving child during Mao reign.

Bit ironic given that emigration outstripped immigration by 141,000 during that period and 228,000 Irish nationals became immigrants in other countries.

Nice story how do i verify this?

And your two authors are Westernized. They have been thought to think of Mao as a mass murder. Do you think Harvard is teaching American kids the good stuff about Socialism and Mao, i doubt it.

Like everyone's telling you, stop grabbing garbage off the internet and go to the library. It also would be nice if you'd read what you post before you post it: one is hard-pressed to find a single sentence without bizarre problems of one sort or another.

I have researched it, the video was just for people who are clueless. The guy narrating the video believed like you guys do now Mao was a mass murder. When he started researching for himself, he found out the truth.

MOD You were already told to stop it earlier on in the thread and to get around that you brought the discussion onto Mao again and you are the one driving the discussion on Mao with various other users. If you want to discuss these topics then find the appropriate forum on Boards but After Hours is not it. Also questioning a mod decision on thread is against the rules:
A warning from a mod may be issued on the thread you are posting on. It may also be sent via private message or by infracting a poster. Heed these warnings as they are given for a reason. If you wish to query an on thread warning please do so via a private message to the moderator. If private messaging a moderator to query a warning please do not abuse the moderator. We have a hard enough job here as it is.

Now as I have already said, bring it back on topic or don't post in this thread again.

False. I was asked by Nicholas Cage ( i like the online name) to stop talking about the holocust and i did stop. If you read the thread, other posters wanted to keep talking about it! You miss this? And then Mao was mentioned by a poster afterwards and that post was directed at me? Should i not reply? And Nicholas Cage never said stop talking about Mao.

Ganging up on me, is an asshole move, fine you dont agree with me, but there is other people here replying to me and too wanted to talkabout the Holocust and Mao, tell them to stop posting about it?

    Ahhh.
At the risk of getting slapped by mods, I think the zealous modding here is doing us all a great disservice.

One poster, god bless them, has managed to get some sort of agreement from both posters seen to be on the left and those seen to be on the right.

I say they should be commended for uniting us rather than sanctioned.

Hell even Grayson is now by all accounts a right winger.

Also this is After Hours where we are also meant to have some leeway, and the odd bit of entertainment.

PS Grayson you will now have to make your own uniforms, get your own shirts, armbands and flags.
This is not the left, you are now on the right.
Free market economics deem you provide your own paraphernalia. :D

Which is fine, but this notion can founder on the rocks of reality on a few fronts. Take western men and western women. Women are less privileged is the given? Slight problem with that. If you're an average Irish woman you will live longer, be better educated, get paid more(until kids come along and even that's debatable), have more social and societal support and will suffer far less from suicide, addiction, homelessness, physical violence. These are facts, not conjecture. So tell Irish men how "privileged" they are again? At this point I have little doubt that many "feminists" are sticking their fingers in their ears. As for christians(which outside of say the US, few enough would be close to practicing), what privilege do they have in Asia, the ME? Which kind of christian? Catholics have historically and not so historically gotten the pooey end of the stick in a few places, in other places Protestants did.

This is the inconsistency that is consistent problem with the modern "liberal" worldview. You would lump together a working class Catholic man with a middle class Protestant man and claim they share a privilege, just by dint of their cock and balls and lack of melanoma. Who is more "privileged" in Ireland today? A welfare class white male from a sink estate, or a middle class Nigerian female doctor?

    Ever heard of intersectionality?

There is a lot of far-right nutters on boards like Fratton Fred & Scumlord who are some of the main ones but there was a thread on here the other day were people calling for people related to terrorists to be exiled or shot and just other stupid **** you'd expect to find on a site like stormfront..

There's a few left-wing Marxists on here like myself but very small compared to the right.

    Mod: banned

I would have thought the views of the above were mild enough compared to some others on the site.

Boards.ie is chock-a-block full of of Trotskyite hard left liberals who would rather have Islamic Terror everyday in Ireland than tackle the problem, this website is totally full of hard left antifa hypocrites who label anyone with a differing opinion as a racist and politically incorrect. Is boards.ie extremly right wing? No but it is extremly left-wing and full of liberal posters who sympathise with antifa terrorism, islamic terror and all manner of socialism, communism, Trotskyites and spend their sad pathetic life defending the indefensible when most normal people lead real lifes. 5,000+ post counts is a hint at it.

See, this is where people start getting those notions. Because people disagree with you (and no, I'd say we have a fair mix of posters from all across the spectrum, although things have become more polarised in the last two years or so), they are not just left-wing, but "chock-a-block full of Trotskyite hard-left liberals who would rather have Islamic Terror everyday in Ireland than tackle the problem". Which is patently bullsh*t.

Like, there's making an observation and then leaping three miles over the point straight to Conclusions. Tbh, I think the problem is a lot more to do with the snowflake views of "everyone is out to get me, MY opinions are right, they don't share MY opinions so they are to the left of Lenin*!" as opposed to maybe considering if you personally are a tad to the right of most people. It's all based on averages, after all. If everyone else (aka, the "chock-a-block") is disagreeing with you, it is more likely, on balance, that it is you that are on a different wavelength rather than that ALL OF BOARDS is tuned to Radio Trotski.

*Or, alternatively, to the right of Pinochet.

I read the first page, then jumped straight to the last page.

    That escalated quickly.

So you complain about being labeled as racist for your view yet in the same post label everyone who disagrees with you as terrorist sympathisers.
