Massive respect for the Mayo team, they've clearly been the second best team over the last few year, last year being a notable exception. They've got the power, pace and doggedness that winning teams have, and the only reason they haven't won at least a couple of All-Irelands over the last few years is because they're coming up against (possibly) one of the best teams of all time.

I'd have absolutely no problem with Mayo winning an All-Ireland, I would in fact be delighted for my Mayo friends...... except..... I really, really, really don't want them to beat us while doing it. RTE will be lashing out documentaries, inside stories, "Reeling in the years - Mayo for Sam edition", special interviews, everything and anything, like never before. Whoever Mayo eventually beat in the final, you'll see that final on tv and in ads more often than any other final over the last 30 years, and I hate rewatching games where we're beaten.

Here is another opinion that will not be popular on here.

Again, I am a Dubs fan for over 30 years (my first GAA memory was my Dad bringing me to the Cork v Dublin Train Game in 1987). I am involved with a club in Dublin in a mentoring capacity and try to get to as many Dublin games as I can (maybe 5-8 a year).

When Dublin won the All-Ireland in 1995 and again in 2011, I was absolutely delighted, but my delight has been receding a bit every year since. I kind of get the impression that cheering for Dublin is akin to cheering for the house in a casino. I take nothing away from the Dublin management team or players, who are obviously top class in terms of work ethic, preparation, skill and training. They're great role models for my kids. But I have sympathy with other counties who complain about Dublin's advantages in terms of population. Dublin are not always going to win, and they won't win if they're poorly managed. But the odds are stacked in their favour, like the house in a casino.

But Dublin to win a hurling AI? Sign me up. I would trade 3 Sam Maguires for 1 Liam McCarthy.

I would not mind if Dublin were beaten AFTER the 5 in a row.
But I understand the way it feels when supporting Dublin.
It feels like shouting for Darth Varder and the Galactic Empire.
Everyone else is waiting for the Dubs to lose.

I would NEVER get tired of beating Kerry in an AI it sickens them, because of thier history etc.
But Dublin beating other counties in AI's does feel a bit unfair.
Like a heavyweight against a flyweight - no contest.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

I would too. The recent Leinster hurling win is a better memory than the four in a row.

They don't no matter what way you look at it. And not just Dublin, no county comes close to getting away with what Mayo footballers do. They are canonised all over the media when they're a shower of words I can't say here. I don't know how they've managed to have so many journalists eating out of the palm of their hand.

Christ almighty take off your blue tinted glasses, every team is at it, no one is dirtier than anyone else, they're all as bad as each other. Can't stand supporters who can only see things from their own county's point of view.

    Dearie me. What a statement:eek::D

Seriously all, just enjoy the ride. If in 5 years we have kept going and dominating the football winning All Ireland after All Ireland then you have a point.
But it wont happen like that. There was a time when Kerry won it so much you just never taught those days would end. Well they did and their supporters would love to be in our position. In fact, they look fairly good again. So they are rising to the challenge. Which is great.
Read Dublin, The Chaos Years. Lets never go back there. As i said, enjoy it. It will probably never happen again.;)

You've basically said exactly what I'm saying. Every team is indeed at it, but only one gets away scot free in the media for it.

Grand, if they win one they win one. That's just my reason why I'd prefer anyone else to do it over them. I wasn't even talking about Dublin (granted it probably shouldn't have been in this thread but it had been mentioned before I did it), I was saying I'd prefer 31 other counties to win the All-Irelabd SFC than Mayo.

Fair enough, from a media point of view I think Mayo are a very easy to write and create a narrative about and generally that's something you see recreated across the world. From Boston Red Sox to Liverpool in the Premier League era, 'nearly' teams are just easier to write about. The same thing will happen when Mayo eventually win it, the mystique will evaporate and while there'll be plenty written about the win, as the following years pass Mayo will just become another team looking to repeat an All Ireland win, you'll find alot of the bandwagon will disappear too, the same as has occured in Dublin. Every Mayo person wants to be there for the day when Mayo win Sam, media included. Even if Dublin did ten in a row, I doubt the feeling will be anywhere near the same as that September 2011.

Sorry, but that's just complete rubbish. Maybe take a step back and put your personal dislikes to one side for a moment.

Look, settle down and take a deep breath. Some people like some teams, some people dislike some teams, it's not the end of the world. Everyone in the country can't like Mayo so don't take it so personally.

    Do you like every team?

I don't care if you don't like Mayo. That's why I didn't quote the part where you said it's your least favourite county.

Just wanted to point out the rubbish about getting away with everything in the media.

I would too, but not if they were in a row.

Hurling has always been my game.

But we've much better rivalries in football.

There has been no love lost between Galway and Dublin in hurling over the last few years - and I don't see that changing much especially with the new Leinster format!!

What's rare is wonderful and all that.

I enjoyed the league win more for the hurlers in 2011. Even though the cats were minus Sheffin I went in hope rather than expectation.
I think that is why I enjoyed it so much.

When I went down to Roscommon. An auld Roscommon fan was emphasising to me how much they hate Mayo.

    The Ballaghaderreen/Andy Moran thing.

He even went as far to say that when Dublin were playing Mayo in the AI finals, Roscommon people were supporting the Dubs!

Connacht teams in general want to see each other lose. Apart from Leitrim. We all love them. Although they got promoted now. Getting a bit big for their boots. Hopefully they get a tanking soon.

Ah, the Ballagh thing is out on it's own. There'll be peace in the Middle East before that $hit is ever sorted out. ;)

All they have to do is move the border back to where it was and it will be all sorted. Sure how hard can it be to move a border like??

I'm sorry. But I'm gonna have to abstain from answering. Got dragged into - yet another - Roscommon border war debate (something about Athlone, co councillors & a mad sounding place called Monksland) while paying for the petrol on the drive home. Lost the will to live 9 1/2 hours in.

Don't really see what all the fuss over borders is all about meself. Balbriggan is up for grabs to...well...anyone that wants it really.

Let Westmeath have Monksland and all it's industrial riches, Roscommon can have Balbriggan and give Ballaghdereen back to Mayo and everyones happy!!!

Balbriggan has applied to join the AU :-)

That sounds eminently sensible to me. (Although if this Monksland place has a plentiful amount of "resources" I think they all have to be given to Dublin. It's de law !) After all, a big chunk of Meath became part of the Galway Gaeltacht in the 1930's, so what could possibly go wrong?

If the weather forecast is right for Saturday a lot of games will be played in the lashings of rain again.
Second weekend in a row getting drown-ded more than likely.
Maybe the Sunshine supporters have the right idea?

Maybe. Might have 3 spare stand tickets myself. Will put them up for grabs if I do.
