Spiderman 2 is gone. It's a fun open world game but it's still got a lot of problems like too many people needing to be rescued. Yahtzee might like it but that's hardly a badge of honour.

Grand Theft Auto San Andreas is gone as well. Bigger than the other two games but also way less fun. Missions were completely scripted as well which robbed it of any open world random fun. Beginning of the down fall of that series for me. Also I want to see peoples reactions that I left ****ty True Crime on there :P

If memory serves me correctly, half life was on the ps2, fantastic game, shouldn't it be on the list to have a craic at last baby alive or have I missed some of the rules.

Midnight Club series gone. They were the very definition of mediocre driving games. Got by on their open world novelty but that novelty was very fleeting.

They're hardly bad games, pretty good in fact. San Andreas was just a big leap forward technically for the series but just not as fun as Vice City or even the craziness of GTA3.

As for Spider-Man 2, I remember people liking it but when Yahtzee said it was top 5 game of all time or something it started being talked about in mythical terms. It's good but it's not even close to getting on any best of all time list for me.

    Cya later Battlefront 2.
    Great on PC...not on PS2

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,870 ✭✭✭✭Generic Dreadhead

Perhaps it's my age showing, but the whittled down list really shows how few "iconic" games the PS2 generation had compared to the 16bit & 32bit era, despite the PS2 objectively offering a good 3D experience compared to the ham-handed, janky stuff on PS1/N64.

Still, bring on the N64 list I say

PS2 is one of the richest consoles when it comes to stone cold classics and weird quirky goodness. It's got an amazingly diverse library.

The problem is the list is made up of the best selling games, never a good indication of quality.

    Which brings me to:

    Gran Turismo 3
    Tekken 5
    God of War 2
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King
Jak and Daxter: The Precusor Legacy
    Ratchet and Clank
    Need for Speed: Most Wanted
    WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2006
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2
    Legacy of Kain: Defiance
    The Simpsons Hit & Run
    Call of Duty: Finest Hour
    Lego Star Wars
    Star Wars: Battlefront II
    Shadow of the Colossus
    Ico
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
    Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series
    Okami
    Timesplitters 2
    Beyond Good and Evil
    Psychonauts
    True Crime: Streets of LA
    Onimusha: Warlords
    Yakuza
    Hitman 2: Silent Assassin
    Burnout 3: Takedown
    Soulcalibur II
    Silent Hill 2

WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2006 gone. As a game it barely functioned. Utter ****e.

Call of Duty: Finest Hour gone. It was a FPS for console babies in a time when Halo showed PC quality shooters worked on console. No excuses for blandness

Jak and Dexter is not, was not, and never will be Iconic
I don't know many people who rate it over Ratchet and Clank (which is also on the list)
Legacy of Kain has 2 games on the list, screw that noise, he's not Mario

The first jak and dater was grand as an early ps2 game but doesn't hold up that we'll especially the framerate issues. Jak 2 on the other hand is rubbish.

Was never the biggest fan of ratchet and clank either.

Neither are bad games but I couldn't call them classics. I leave that to sly cooper and klonoa 2.

Cutting The Simpsons Hit & Run. Probably the best Simpson's game, but that's not much. A watered down GTA clone that doesn't hang with some of the others here.

Persona might not be iconic but Personally 3 and 4 were still far and away the best RPGs on the system and a good contender for best of all time. I thought we were judging things based on how good they were.

    Loved Burnout 3 as well.

    Such savagery.

Soulcalibur is an infinitely better fighting game than boring Tekken. The only negative is the game cube version was way better.

Was never any good at fighting games but loved Soul Caliber. Even bought a third party controller to pull off some of the trickier moves.

I'd liken it to Mother/Earthbound. Critically acclaimed worldwide now.
But it wasn't anyones "Baby" cause we weren't talking about it in the schoolyard as kids.
The Japanese kids can make their own iconic thread
