Have there been any firm updates on the 23/24 route timings. Recent correspondence from a local councillor indicated they would be in place before year end?

Is the 83 Bus Service due to finish in October or is it to happen at a later time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,330 ✭✭✭✭cgcsb

Yes the 83/a will be replaced with 23/24 on the same day

When is the 150 being replaced or is it being incorporated into a new route?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 306 ✭✭DaBluBoi

Presumably when D Spine gets launched. When F Spine gets introduced in October, I think it will be diverted from Rossmore to take 15a route and terminate at Limekiln Avenue

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,745 ✭✭✭rx8

The 150 is being extended to Limekiln. (15a terminus). It will still operate as a stand-alone route apparently.

The new route 82 will also be a stand-alone route and operate from Kiltipper to Ringsend, and also be based there.

Here's the latest info the company have given us...

Isn't bits of the 150, 53 and 56A being moulded into the 71 as well.

There's some news from The Irish Times today regarding the S8 route which runs between Citywest & Dún Laoghaire. The NTA have approved a new timetable for the route from Go-Ahead Ireland. The new timetable for the S8 will be implemented in Q4 2025.

The article also says that Go-Ahead Ireland have employed 10 new mechanics to improve maintenance reliability of the operator's bus fleet. They are also recruiting 100 new bus drivers to provide a more reliable and efficient bus service for their customers.

    EDIT:

The IT article came up today because a woman who lives in Leopardstown was making complaints to Go-Ahead, the NTA & local political reps that buses on the S8 were cancelled without notice during her morning commute. She takes the S8 to her workplace in Knocklyon.

Some of her friends in work were making comments to her that the S8 is very unreliable when take the bus to work in the morning.

She had been using an electric bike to commute to work when the S8 wasn't running it's timetable properly during the summer. Although she had broke her ankle while on holidays in Spain. She now has to rely on Public Transport for work while being on crutches with a cast on her right leg.

The news about the new timetable for the S8 is very welcome for anyone using the route. I hope that it does not provide any more delays or cancellations for anyone using the route during their commute to work. The schools are also been back open this week. I hope it helps with getting the students to school on time when the traffic gets back to the predictable gridlock whenever that arises.

Its a bit of a disaster of a route to be fair. I work in Citywest and live in Old Bawn, a couple of weeks ago the car was in for a service so I decided to get the bus to work. Got the 77A (from Seskin View ) at 7.30am and was sitting at my desk by 7.50am granted this was during the summer. That evening I had to collect the car in Knocklyon so decided either of the S buses would get me there or failing that a 65B. I had just missed a 65b at 3.30pm. After almost an hour of a wait the next bus that turned up apart from the very frequent 77A was the next scheduled 65B at 4.30pm. Now I'm not a frequent bus user anymore but that's ridiculous at peak times.

Q4 starts in 3 weeks time. Is there any details on the revised S8 timetable ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,330 ✭✭✭✭cgcsb

The Phase 7 looks set to remove these routes from college green:

    49, 9, 54a, 83/a, 123 and 140

    What's left will be:

    13, 14, 15, 16/d, 65/b, 27, 56a, 77a, 151, 68/a, 122, 150.

Most of these will be dropped when the D spine starts, presumably that'll be H1 2026 and the rest can be dealt with by temp re routes. In that case DCC might get the finger out and get to work on the college green plaza. Presumably there's a lot of processes to go through between now and closing the area to vehicles.

I haven't seen any news about the revised S8 timetable on Go-Ahead Ireland's website at the moment.

I think the new timetable for the route will be published before the new contract for the ODMA routes begins in October.

Although; are there any other BusConnects routes run by Go-Ahead getting new timetables drawn up between now & October?

public consultation in July indicated they were nervous to put anything of substance out, so I'd guess they are tying themselves up in knots over it. In a reasonable society they'd close for a trial and monitor the impacts, positive and negative. Then go from there. Instead it'll be years if ever.

I believe the routes to remain after the D-spine are the 14, 15+variants, 16/16D, and 65/65B (with the 14 and 15 only operating southside-CC) all of which will stop after the A-spine launch. There is the 122 which will be around until the B-spine, however it's expected that it will only operate Ashington-CC after the D-spine, and will likely terminate before reaching CG.

While that isn't a large number of routes, the 14, 15s, and 16s are all quite frequent. The 15s alone have around 20 departures in the peak hour. I think rerouting all of that away from Dame Street would be a logistical nightmare and that its likely CGP will be tied into the A-spine launch.

As posted numerous times already here, it is the A Spine phase implementation that dictates when work can start on the Plaza.

It’s not going to happen before that takes place.

Timetable changes are generally only published a week or two before implementation.

Given that this is resource availability dictated (it involves increasing running times to allow buses more time to travel the route), it could be anytime between now and the end of the year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,287 ✭✭✭trellheim

ok so no increased frequency then on S8, thanks. That is a pity.

The S8 timetable issue isn’t one of frequency. The frequency is fine. The problem are the running times.

The issue is that journeys are being dropped due to buses not getting to the terminus on time on their previous journeys.

So more buses and drivers are needed to deliver the existing public timetable frequency.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 422 ✭✭TranslatorPS

And that's with the S8 already being a bit on the resource-heavy side, with a PVR of 17 in the morning peak and a general lap time of 3h40 to 4h10 – all of that is due to its length rather than frequency.

Well it’s also due to the numerous significant bottlenecks that it encounters - Tallaght to Knocklyon, Sandyford Business Park and westward on Newtownpark Avenue being absolutely catastrophic at various times of the day.

    54a ceases on October 18th.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,312 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

And is replaced by other routes as part of the F-Spine changes (probably an important piece of information!) 😉

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 492 ✭✭ITV2

I didn't see any other route mentioned in the garage, hence I didn't mention then LX 👍

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,312 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

Ah now ITV2 - there’s a lovely map on the BusConnects website that tells you the answer! 😉

    https://busconnects.ie/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/A3-Big-Picture-Map-13.6.24.pdf

Always best to paint the full picture in these scenarios.

The 82 replaces the 54a between Tallaght and Perrystown (taking a different route from that taken by the 54a to the city from there), and the F2 replaces the 54a between Wellington Lane and the City bypassing Templeville Road and Fortfield (with the F1 covering Fortfield).

The F1 replaces it around the Fortfield area too. I don't know if Fortfield needs that level of frequency but they're getting it regardless!

I presume the 122 and the 68 will be around until after the O orbital comes in as they cover long sections of the south Circular Road. Based on some posts here, it could be quite a while before the O is up and running.
